Vehicle Kill Switches , being custom installed, will stop most amateur thieves and the punk kid on your block from stealing your vehicle better than most standard-installation alarms.

The reason it is more effective than a standard-install car alarm is two-fold:

1) A kill switch is useless unless hidden. The thief will try to start your vehicle, wasting time, before he realizes something is wrong. Most amateurs will give up at this point.

The disadvantage to this, and why it won’t stop a professional thief, is that it is typically hidden in a easy-to-reach place in order to be convenient for the driver of the vehicle.

2) The installation is custom. Unlike factory-installed antitheft systems out-of-the-box car alarms slammed in to your vehicle by an $8 per hour technician, this alone makes it tougher for a thief to beat because he doesn’t know right where to go. A weakness of most alarm systems is that in addition to being installed in one of the few standard locations, the wires are color-coded to make it easy for the installer. Obviously this also provides a road map for the thief — anything that goes in fast, comes out faster.

A kill switch is a simple form of an engine disabler. The more advanced forms of engine disablers, as you may know, are determined by the antitheft institute to be the most effective type of antitheft device on the market. A kill switch’s main disadvantage is that it typically interrupts only a single circuit.

More advanced engine disablers — effective in stopping even professional thieves — interrupt more than 1 circuit make their connections in the engine compartment.

I am not trying to boast but I have a car that is worth over $227,000 US Dollars. It is a 2006 Red Ferrari 430. I keep it in our garage but I am so scared on having it stolen. The transportation sector accounts for more greenhouse gas emissions than iron, steel, cement and chemical industries combined.

Accelerating the shift to low- and zero-emission vehicles will be crucial if Ontario is to achieve its climate change goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) to 15% below 1990 levels in 2020, 37% in 2030 and 80% in 2050.

To achieve this goal, the Province will need to reduce emissions from vehicles on the road today, and undertake actions to promote the adoption of zero and low emitting vehicles now and in the future.

Moving to a more sustainable transportation model is critical for reducing our carbon footprint. Ontario is ready for electric vehicles and is taking action to help people make the switch by addressing the barriers to EV adoption through the following initiatives:

Price Premium – There is a price premium for electric vehicles compared to conventional gas-powered vehicles.

The Electric Vehicle Incentive Program, provides incentives to support the purchase of eligible electric vehicles, which when coupled with fuel savings, makes electric vehicles a real alternative for Ontario drivers.

The Electric Vehicle Incentive Program has been modernized with updated incentive values for eligible EVs and additional incentives for vehicles with a greater capacity to carpool. This will help make EVs more affordable to Ontarians.

Range Anxiety – A network of optimally distributed public fast-charging stations that enable EV drivers to travel between and within cities across the Province will help build confidence that EVs are a real choice for Ontarians. It will consider barriers to the adoption of ESBs by school bus operators, as well as the potential of ESBs to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and diesel pollution from student transportation.

When you shop for life insurance, you’ve got two basic options: term or permanent life insurance.

Term life insurance covers you for a specific period of time, usually 10, 15, 20 or 30 years. If you live past your policy’s term, there is no payout to your beneficiaries.

Permanent life insurance, such as whole life, universal life or variable universal life insurance, covers you for the duration of your lifetime. It also offers a feature that’s commonly viewed as a strong selling point: cash value. In addition to lifelong insurance coverage, a portion of your premium payments goes toward a cash value account that grows tax-deferred over time.

When is building up cash value worth the extra money you’ll pay for the permanent life insurance policy?

Cash value: Worth the extra cost?

The cash value account is one reason whole life insurance premiums are higher than premiums for term insurance. Cash value grows slowly at first and generally picks up earnings speed after several years. The cash value in your policy grows each year with interest, tax-deferred. (Some policies grow cash value at a more steady rate; your insurance agent will show you illustrations of possible outcomes.)

Once you have accumulated enough cash value, you can opt to use it to cover your premium payments. This is known as being “paid up.” If you decide to withdraw some cash value, you may have to resume premium payments to keep the life insurance policy in force.

Another common way people access their cash value is by taking out a loan against their policy and paying it back with interest at a rate that’s generally lower than a bank loan. You’re not obligated to pay it back, but the money you owe, plus interest, will be deducted from the death benefit when you die. So if you don’t pay it back, your beneficiaries will lose out.

You can also make a full or partial withdrawal of your cash value. Depending on your policy and level of cash value, a withdrawal might reduce your death benefit. Exactly how much varies by policy, but in the case of universal life insurance your death benefit would be reduced on a dollar-for-dollar basis. For example, if you had a $100,000 death benefit with a $20,000 cash value and you withdrew $10,000, your resulting death benefit would be $90,000.

In some cases, partially withdrawing your cash value could greatly reduce your death benefit. For some traditional whole life insurance policies, the death benefit could be reduced by more than the amount you withdraw.

Cash value at a glance

Let’s take a look at possible scenarios of building cash value in a traditional whole life insurance policy. (The below examples are from New York Life Insurance Co.) Remember, illustrations will vary greatly depending on the insurer, the policy face amount, the policy type and your rating classification (preferred plus, preferred, standard, etc.).

Below are illustrations of how much cash value a 35-year-old nonsmoking male with a preferred-rate $100,000 whole life insurance policy could build up over his lifetime. Policy values and benefits shown are based on a dividend scale that is not guaranteed and could be more or less than what’s shown.

The first set shows what could happen to the cash value and death benefit if he taps his cash value to pay premiums. The second set shows what could happen if he pays his premiums himself every year.

The inventory tool allows you to cast a much wider net than simply visiting your local dealership’s website. Start with the make and model of the vehicle that you’re interested in. You’ll have the option to refine your search by price, distance, model year and mileage. If you’re looking for specific options or features, a certain trim level or a specific color, there are more advanced search filters available, including engine type, fuel type, drivetrain, powertrain, airbags, air-conditioning and much more. After you find the car, SUV, truck or hybrid that you’re interested in, select the listing to check out the VIN details page for that vehicle and get more information. There you’ll find a description of the vehicle from the dealer, vehicle features and options, contact information for that dealership, dealer reviews, a ballpark insurance estimate, and a link to see a Carfax vehicle history report.

    The APPRAISE tab at the top of the page lets you enter your car’s basic information, odometer reading, trim level, and overall condition. Then Edmunds provides you with the True Market Value (TMV) for your used car or vehicle. Edmunds’s True Market Value or used car value is is a great starting point for negotiation of a used-car sale between a private buyer and seller. This is an “as is” value that does not include any warranties. The final sales price depends on the car’s actual condition and local market factors. You can use this used car value estimate to price your car for sale or to negotiate a trade-in for a new, CPO, or previously owned car for sale from a local dealer. The used car value estimate is also useful for assessing retail pricing at a car dealer. You can try it out by clicking the “APPRAISE” tab, above. Once you enter your vehicle details, you will receive three estimates for your used car’s value: “Trade-in” is what you can expect a dealer to offer you for your used car; “Private Party” is what you might expect to earn if you sold the pre-owned vehicle yourself; and “Dealer Retail” is what you might expect to pay if you were buying this used model used at a dealership. If the vehicle is new enough, you’ll also see a price that says “Certified Used Price.” This price estimates what the dealership might sell it for as a certified pre-owned vehicle.

    The RESEARCH tab points you to our expert analysis of the make and model of the car you select. You can read our editors’ reviews and learn about each generation of the vehicle you’re interested in. From there, you can narrow the focus of your car buying research by selecting a particular model year and learning more by checking out photos of the cars, researching local dealership listings, car valuation, consumer reviews, editors’ reviews, pros & cons, features & specs, and safety information. That’s a world of information. And we’ve put it all right at your fingertips.
