Applying to the Counseling and Development (C D) program is a two-step process. Step one requires an application to the TWU Graduate School, while step two requires an �application process� to the TWU Department of Family Sciences C D program.

  1. APPLY to the TWU Graduate School by going online to Be sure to specify Texas Woman�s University as the target university, the semester and year you wish to begin taking classes, and Counseling and Development (MS) as the major.
  2. WAIT to receive your letter of acceptance or otherwise notified that you have been accepted. Once the application fee and all transcripts are received, it can take 4-6 weeks to process your application and receive your letter via U.S. Mail.
  3. CONTACT the Department of Family Sciences to register to attend the next Interview Day event. Interview Day is the time when the C D faculty evaluate your candidacy as a major in the C D program. It will consist of an opportunity to provide a writing sample, conduct an individual interview with faculty, participate in a mock group counseling session, and allow opportunity to ask questions and network with other applicants.
  4. WAIT for a decision from the C D program concerning your acceptance. Please allow 2-3 weeks to receive a decision after the Interview Day event.
  5. Upon acceptance. ENROLL in classes during early registration to ensure you get what you want. You should plan to take these courses during your first two semesters:

    • The successful completion of the Pre-Professional Phase at Marywood University or a Bachelor’s degree from another college or university.
    • A minimum overall GPA of 3.0.

    Students From Across US Test Self-Driving CAT Vehicle at UA

    Larry Head, UA professor of systems and industrial engineering and an expert in connected and automated driving vehicle systems, headed up the REU program this year, alongside Tamal Bose, professor and head of the UA Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering.

    Alongside UA students, participants from institutions such as Seattle University, Monmouth College, Lipscomb University and Western Colorado State University worked with the CAT driverless vehicle. The objective was to see if the students could program a basic sensor to gather enough data to allow the car to travel, but not too much for a computer to process quickly.

His team’s technique uses runtime anomaly detection to catch 100 percent of mimicked malware attacks.

    As Bob Karson noted in a recent episode of the NSF’s Discovery Files podcast, these threats are, thankfully, still theoretical — but ECE researchers are staying a heartbeat ahead of the hackers.

    IEEE Recognizes ECE Professor, Fellow Authors with Outstanding Paper Award

    The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Computational Intelligence Society Administrative Committee has announced it will be recognizing ECE professor Gregory Ditzler and co-authors Manuel Roveri, Cesare Alippi and Robi Polikar with the Outstanding Paper Award for their article “Learning in Nonstationary Environments: A Survey.”

    The organization presents the award annually to authors of outstanding papers published in the IEEE Computational Intelligence Magazine. Ditzler’s work appeared in the November 2015 issue of the publication.

    The IEEE CIS ADCOM will officially recognize the professors and confer the $1,000 award during the 2018 IEEE World Congress on Computational Intelligence in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

    Welcome to the Department of Psychology

    In pursuing its mission to acquire, advance and disseminate knowledge within the Psychological and Biobehavioral Sciences, the Department balances several academic endeavors including: undergraduate teaching, graduate training, professional training, basic scientific research, applied research, faculty development, and community service. The Department of Psychology has the largest Ph.D. program at the University of Miami and the second largest number of undergraduate majors in the College of Arts and Sciences. The Department has extensive research and service programs throughout the culturally diverse Miami area affected by its 38 faculty and 120 full-time staff and research personnel. Its research programs have been ranked among the top nationally for National Institute of Health funding in psychology departments. Its graduate program in clinical psychology was recently ranked 25th nationally by U.S. News and World Report and has received continuous accreditation by the American Psychological Association since 1966. The Department has its own community-based training clinic and adult, child, and health intervention programs.

    Logistics and Supply Chain Management

    Logistics and Supply Chain Management is a field of study of supply chain networks that organizations use to acquire, produce, and deliver goods and services all over the world. Our program is holistic because of the integration of the sources, production, distribution, and reverse logistics processes. We focus extensively on management information systems that are a key critical enabler of efficiency, effectiveness, and responsiveness. Our faculty, both fulltime as well as adjunct, remain active in the logistics programs through their leadership of organizations and programs in both the private as well as the public sector. This allows our students to understand the theoretical aspects of logistics and supply chain management while also gaining a keen understanding of how it is applied in business settings today. Our faculty collaborate with colleagues in other disciplines as well as with practicing senior managers in both government and the private sector.

    Our focus is to prepare students for technical, functional, and leadership positions at top-tier businesses and government agencies. Our students work closely with faculty from the onset of their program to ensure the best preparation for life after graduation, including working on research projects that could lead to publication in academic journals. There are great universities across America with logistics and supply chain programs similar to ours. What distinguishes Athens State is our faculty; and, when coupled with the support resources available to students, there is no university that will better prepare students to be highly competitive to take advantage of great career opportunities in many business fields.

    Students will learn how to plan and forecast demand for products and services and gain an understanding of operations involving the movement of materials from raw materials for production to providing the finished product to the end consumer. After gaining an understanding of the supply chain function, students will learn how to manage the logistical movement of goods and products to include the transportation and services involved. An emphasis will be placed on understanding these functions within the government setting.

    Course Objectives and Structures

    The Master s Program offers a range of specializations in the professional fields of public and corporate communications, marketing, advertising and market research.

    It aims to provide an interdisciplinary training with a strong link to the industry and advanced tertiary in the Italian and international labour markets, and to public and political organisations.
    There are two curricula taught completely in English: Corporate Communication and Public Opinion Research and Communication Methods, and a third in Italian Comunicazione e Marketing.

    The curricula are geared towards improving the basic competences and specific skills in several fields of applied communication. Acquired competences enable graduates to perform management and executive role in different industrial and commercial businesses, and in non-governmental and public organizations.

    Career Prospects

    Professional opportunities for graduates include high-profile positions in the organizations and management of public relations departments; jobs as planners and developers of institutional, corporate and marketing communications, including advertising and fashion; positions as communication strategists in public administrations, researchers and analysts in public opinion survey and market research industry; advocacy experts with companies, organizations and public or private bodies, also at international level; and political marketing consultants for parties and candidates.

    Official figures show that more than 80% of post-graduates of this Master s find every year full employment.

    Entry Requirements

    International applicants should have a Bachelor s degree or equivalent in social and political sciences, journalism, communications, information technology, business, economics or related fields. Fluency in spoken and written English or Italian is required.

    Applicants from EU countries and from non-EU countries (residing in Italy with residence permit) are exempted from submitting certificates for English/Italian (or to take the Italian language examination) because they must take the entrance examination.

    Applicants from non-EU countries, residing abroad, who are interested in the two specializations taught completely in English must be able to demonstrate their knowledge of English either by showing they attended at least one year of university studies at institutions where the language of instruction is English, or by possessing one of the following EFL certificates:

    Applicants from non-EU countries, residing abroad. who are interested in the curriculum taught in Italian should have good knowledge of spoken and written Italian. Applicants that attended at least one year of university studies at institutions where the language of instruction is Italian or applicants who hold a certificate attesting to their knowledge of the Italian language (e.g. CELI 3 certificate – level B2) are exempted from taking the Italian language exam that non-EU citizens resident abroad are required to pass before enrolling.     The counselling conducting authority, Aligarh Muslim University has declared a separate eligibility criteria of AMU MBBS BDS 2017 :

    • Candidate must have completed 17 years of age as or on December 31, 2017
    • Candidate must have passed Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English individually in Class XII. Further, candidates must have obtained a minimum of 50% marks taken together in all subjects
    • Candidates belonging to SC/ST categories must have obtained a minimum of 40% marks in Class XII. while, it is 45% marks for OBC category candidates.

    Saint Benedict Joseph Labre is the patron saint of homeless people. He was born March 26, 1748, into a well-off middle class family with numerous opportunities. He was educated in his native village in France.

    As the years went by he grew distaste for any form of knowledge which did not help him to grow closer to God. After experimenting with several rigorous ways of religious life, he reportedly had an internal illumination. He then believed that God was calling him to a life of devotion not in a wilderness or cloister but in the midst of the world.

    He abandoned his materialistic upbringing and set forth on a pilgrimage in an old coat with a rosary around his neck and a rosary between his fingers. He lived a live of poverty, sleeping on the streets and eating simple meals from charity or taken from the garbage. Many hours of his life were spent in adoration of the Blessed Sacrament.

    He collapsed on the steps of the church of Santa Maria dei Monti in Rome from the exhaustion of living for 13 years in absolute poverty; and died later that day on April 16, 1783 also his feast day.

    Saint Benedict Joseph Labre, you gave up honor, money, and home for love of Jesus. Help us to set our hearts on Jesus and not on the things of this world. You lived in obscurity among the poor in the streets. Enable us to see Jesus in our poor brothers and sisters and not judge by appearances. Make us realize that in helping them we are helping Jesus. Show us how to befriend them and not pass them by.

    Saint Benedict Joseph Labre, you had a great love for prayer. Obtain for us the grace of persevering prayer, especially adoration of Jesus in the Most Blessed Sacrament.

    State law does not require that public officials or employees attend an Ethics Law training session. The Ohio Revised Code does require, however, that the Ethics Commission provide a “continuing program of education and information.” The Commissions fulfills this mandate with “live” trainings, webinars, information sheets, quarterly newsletter, and online learning.

    Although the statute does not mandate attendance at an Ethics Law training, agency practices and internal policies often require it. For example, Executive Order 2011-03K requires that state employees and officials participate in an annual ethics training. Although such policies and executive orders are not enforceable under the Ohio Ethics Law, the Ethics Commission makes every effort to help public employees and officials at both the state and local government level fulfill any such internal requirements.

    Yes, the Ohio Ethics Commission conducts approximately 200 ethics education sessions annually with very positive feedback. The Commission’s presentation options vary from 30 minute keynote addresses to one to two hour sessions. Occasionally, the Commission also provides 3 – 4 hour workshops on the Ethics Law and related statutes.

    The Commission’s obligation to be fiscally responsible, however, requires that travel be reserved for speeches with larger groups. If you are interested in having the Commission speak at your agency or office outside Columbus, we request a minimum of 75-100 people be in attendance.

    The Ohio Ethics Law promotes the general public interest and supports confidence by prohibiting public officials and employees from:

    • Participating in their public role in any action that involves the direct interests of the official, or those of a family member, or another with whom the official has an ongoing private business relationship;
    • Authorizing, or using a public position to secure, a public contract or the investment of public funds in any security that benefits the official, a family member, or a business associate;
    • Improperly profiting from a public contract;
    • Soliciting or accepting substantial and improper things of value, including, outside employment or consultation fees, gifts, or travel, meals and lodging, from those dealing with the public agency;
    • Unauthorized disclosure or use of information deemed confidential by law;
    • Representing others before any public agency in a matter in which the official or employee was involved, both during, and for a period of time (at least one year) after, leaving public service.

    Under state law, the Ohio Ethics Commission’s investigations are confidential. While the Commission may share information with other law enforcement authorities, Ohio Revised Code 102.07 deems any complaints, charges, or investigations handled by the Ohio Ethics Commission private and confidential. Therefore, the Ethics Commission cannot comment on allegations or ongoing investigations.

    The newly established Yale-NUS College is the region’s first, fully residential liberal arts college.     Combined Plan Program Admissions

    Students can apply for the Combined Plan program in their junior (3-2 program) or senior (4-2) year of undergraduate study. High school students do not apply until they are enrolled in an undergraduate institution, and should contact their prospective institution(s) for more information.

    Students who attend affiliated liberal arts schools must meet the requirements listed below to earn guaranteed admission. Students that do not meet the requirements for guaranteed admission or do not attend an affiliated liberal arts school, may still apply.

    Requirements for Guaranteed Admission

    Candidates who began at an affiliate school in fall 2011 or later :

    1. Full-time enrollment at an affiliated school for at least the past two years
    2. An overall and pre-engineering GPA of 3.30 or higher, as calculated by Columbia. Additionally, the minimum grade for each pre-engineering science or mathcourse must be a B (3.0) or better on the first attempt.
    3. Three favorable recommendations: one each from your institution s Combined Plan liaison, math instructor and science instructor
    4. Successful completion, by the end of the spring semester in which you are applying, of the specific prerequisite courses for your intended major as listed in the Pre-Combined Plan Curriculum Guide
    5. Completion (before entering Columbia) of the major and degree requirements prescribed by your home institution for graduation
    6. Demonstration of English language proficiency as listed below.
    7. Be in good standing at the member institution. Any student who has previously been placed on academic probation or disciplinary action may apply but will not qualify for guaranteed admission.

    Candidates who began at an affiliate school starting in fall 2016 :

    The above requirements are the same with the updated articulation agreement from summer 2016, which includes new information about the Columbia policies that Combined Plan students are subject to once enrolled at Columbia. Please note a new exception, a three-year residency requirement at the affiliate institution, which can include time spent at a previous institution and/or study abroad opportunities. Additionally, applicants with 3.0 – 3.29 cumulative GPA are welcome to consider the program, although admission is not guaranteed.

    In order to be eligible for guaranteed admission, applicants must meet the requirements from the Curriculum Guide that was issued in the fall semester they began college. Students are not subject to the changes made to Curriculum Guides issued in subsequent years. For details, please review the Curriculum Guide that was issued in the year you began college [Fall 2013. Fall 2014. Fall 2015. Fall 2016 ].

    You should confer with the liaison at your school in order to determine which classes fulfill Columbia pre-engineering foundation and major-specific courses.

    English Language Proficiency Requirement

    One of the requirements for guaranteed admission to the Combined Plan program is proof of English language proficiency. A candidate whose native language is not English and whose primary language of instruction has not been English for at least five years must demonstrate English language proficiency. Candidates must submit an official score report from the testing agency for one of the following English proficiency examinations:

    • TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language): A minimum score of 600 (paper-based) or 100 (Internet-based) is necessary for fulfillment of this requirement.
    • IELTS (International English Language Testing System): A minimum score of 7.0 is necessary for fulfillment of this requirement.
    • SAT or ACT: A minimum score of 650 on the Critical Reasoning or Writing sections of the old SAT or a minimum score of 29 on the English or Reading sections of the ACT is necessary for fulfillment of this requirement.

    If test scores have expired, the admissions office will accept a copy of the official score report, submitted by the student and certified by an official from the applicant’s institution,from tests taken within the last five years. Self-reported scores will not be accepted.

    If an applicant does not have the required standardized testing, the requirement may be fulfilled by obtaining a grade of B or higher in the prerequisite course equivalent to English Composition (ENGL C1010 University Writing), a foundational prerequisite course as noted in the Combined Plan Curriculum Guide. that was issued in the year you began at the home institution [ Fall 2013.     Applicants must take all standardized test examinations no later than February 28, 2017 for consideration for the fall of 2017.

    The Associate of Arts in Counter Terrorism Studies explores the origins and motivations for terrorism, and terrorist strategy and tactics.     The University of Hartford is a fully accredited, private, co-educational institution with the main campus located on approximately 350 wooded acres in West Hartford, Connecticut. The University offers educational and career programs in 84 undergraduate majors and 34 graduate degrees at the masters and doctoral levels, in the liberal arts, sciences, business, engineering, technology, art, music, education and allied health professions.

    Part of the institution dates back to 1877, when the first of its original three schools was founded. The Hartford Art School (1877), Hillyer College (1879), and the Hartt School (1920) joined in 1957 to form the University of Hartford.     BRIDGES Program

    The BRIDGES Program at NSU University School is an innovative, personalized, and technologically rich educational experience for students in grades 1-5 who have mild to moderate learning disabilities and average to gifted intelligence. Unique to this intervention program, students benefit from the academic excellence and social environment of NSU University School and the educational support and services of Nova Southeastern University.


    The BRIDGES Program at NSU University School provides an environment that optimizes learning potential by focusing on the distinct learning style of the individual student. The program believes in the development of intellect and character in a safe, nurturing environment that supports mutual trust between student, staff members, and family. Classes are held in self-contained classrooms with instruction presented both individually and in small groups. We believe that students learn best when the instruction and classroom environment match their specific learning needs, based on sound educational theory and research.


    Early intervention provides young children with a foundation for future success. The academic curriculum is based on the NSU University School’s scope and sequence of instruction and differentiates the method and rate of instruction to fit each child’s individual needs. Teachers develop individual programming that focuses on academic and organizational skills, as well as interpersonal relationships. Each student’s plan is based on clinical diagnoses, classroom assessments, personal learning strengths, and other student’s interests and talents. Teachers implement research-based instruction that addresses students’ academic and social needs. Teachers communicate with parents regularly to report progress through written reports and personal conferences. Students receive content instruction, science, social studies, and Mind Lab, in the grade level classroom with their age group peers. Each student participates in age-appropriate NSU University School activities including art, music, word processing, physical education, and extracurricular activities.


    The staff in the BRIDGES Program has been selected for their accomplishments in the field of Special Education. The team includes full-time Master’s level teachers with practical experience in Special Education and full-time assistant teachers. The support team includes a Speech and Language Therapist, an Occupational Therapist, a School Psychologist, and an administrator with extensive experience in Special Education.


    The BRIDGES Program at NSU University School seeks to accept students of average to above average intelligence who are experiencing learning difficulties in traditional school settings because of mild to moderate learning disabilities and language based disorders. Admission to the academy will be limited to students who can best achieve success in a nontraditional program geared to helping students develop academic skills, improve social interactions, and increase self-image and independence. Admissions will be denied to those students who, according to the judgment of the Admissions Committee, demonstrate cognitive limitations or behavioral difficulties which would prevent steady progress within the intervention program.

    The Admission Committee will consider candidates using:

    • Psychological testing
    • Language testing and/or full scale IQ
    • Written recommendations from a psychologist
    • Previous school records and recommendations
    • A school visit and evaluation
    • Parent interview

    Master of Occupational Therapy (MOT)


    Trinity Washington University s Master of Occupational Therapy program prepares busy students for a career in OT. The program offers weekend classes, online learning, and community placements.

    Classes meet eight times each semester and emphasize active learning, skills practicums, and case-based problem-solving. Online instructions, including lecture, directed reading, and discussions, delivers basic and advanced content. Concurrent clinical placements in diverse practice settings provide opportunities for observation and supervised practice.

    The MOT program involves five semesters of full-time study, followed by two 12-week full-time Level II field work placements. Students enter the program in the fall semester and are expected to maintain continuous enrollment until graduation.

    OTM 520 Foundations of OT Practice This course introduces students to the core foundations of occupational therapy and occupation-based practice. Topics include the history of the profession, occupation and occupational science, and theoretical bases and frames of reference that guide of OT practice. Students gain skills in articulating the domain and roles of the profession and describing the practice of OT as defined in the OT Practice Framework. The official documents of the AOTA and major OT theories will be introduced.

    Prerequisites: None OTM 521 Occupational Development Across the Lifespan This course covers occupational development from infancy to older adulthood. Key developmental changes in motor, cognitive, social and emotional domains will be examined, and the processes through which people acquire performance skills, values, roles, and habits will be explored. The role of the environment in development and the transactional nature of developmental change will be emphasized. Students will learn to distinguish between normal development and aging, and pathology, and to articulate the importance of a lifespan perspective to OT practice.

    Prerequisites: None OTM 522 Functional Anatomy and Kinesiology This course will provide an overview of gross and clinical anatomy, clinical kinesiology, and biomechanics as they relate to occupation. Students will study the skeletal and muscular system, develop an understanding human movement in functional activities and skills, and examine the impact of musculoskeletal conditions on occupational performance. Observation, palpation and basic clinical skills will be introduced.

    Prerequisites: None OTM 532 Functional Neuroscience: Sensory-Motor Foundations of Occupation This course provides an overview of the structures and functions of the central and peripheral nervous systems with an emphasis on sensory and motor processing. The course is focused on the role of sensory processing and motor activation on occupational performance, along with the impact of neurological disease and injury on occupational engagement. Learning experiences include the application of neuroscience principles to assessment and treatment, and lab experiences with peers on assessment of impairment and human performance.

    Prerequisites: None OTM 534 Pediatric Interventions This course focuses on OT practice with infants, children and adolescents with health conditions or disabilities that interfere with occupational performance and/or participation. Students will learn about common conditions and diseases and develop clinical skills in assessment, intervention, and documentation. Course includes a Level I FW placement in a pediatric setting. This FW is designed to enrich the didactic and lab content of the course by providing opportunities for observation and participation with clients, families and professionals in a clinical setting.

    Prerequisites: None OTM 614 Psychosocial/Behavioral Foundations and Intervention This course covers psychosocial and cognitive aspects of occupational performance, reviews common behavioral conditions that limit occupational performance, and examine the role of OT with individuals and groups with cognitive and behavioral disorders. Students learn theories of OT in mental health and develop skills needed for assessment, intervention and documentation. Traditional and evidence-based interventions will be presented. Course includes a Level I FW placement in a mental health facility or community setting where students will have the opportunity to observe OT intervention and participate in the OT process with individual or groups with behavioral and/or cognitive impairments.

    The entry-level occupational therapy master’s degree program is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) of the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA), located at 4720 Montgomery Lane, Suite 200, Bethesda, MD 20814-3449. ACOTE’s telephone number c/o AOTA is (301) 652-AOTA and its Web address is Graduates of the program will be eligible to sit for the national certification examination for the occupational therapist administered by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT). After successful completion of this exam, the individual will be an Occupational Therapist, Registered (OTR). In addition, all states require licensure in order to practice; however, state licenses are usually based on the results of the NBCOT Certification Examination. Note that a felony conviction may affect a graduate’s ability to sit for the NBCOT certification examination or attain state licensure.

    Occupational therapy students must successfully pass all Level I and Level II fieldwork placements.

    Important Factors to take Into Consideration When Choosing the Right College

    Making the decision to go to college is a very big life-changing decision to make and choosing the “right college” can be difficult. When choosing the right college that will be the perfect fit for you and your life, you should take several things into consideration to make the decision making process a little simpler. You’ll want to carefully weigh all of this information before choosing a school. You want to feel confident in your decision, like you just know this school is the right choice and you can just feel it. The last thing you want to do is to start college at a school that will make you miserable later.

    Start college putting your best foot forward by taking these important facts into consideration when choosing a school:

    • Choose an Accredited School: Put your best foot forward by choosing a school that is accredited. This is important when seeking employment later after you’ve completed college. Many employers and government offices make this an educational requirement. If your degree is not from an accredited school, it could possibly hamper your career later on.
    • Location of School: Would you like to relocate? Do you want to commute? Do you want to stay close to home? Are you interested in online classes? These are all questions that you’ll want to ask yourself. Then when you’ve decided on the actual location, you can start planning. If you relocate, you’ll want to consider room and board, and whether or not you’d like to live in a dorm or off campus, etc.
    • Cost: This is a huge factor in choosing a college. Figure out what you can afford. Look at the tuition costs per semester and for the year for your schools of choice and compare them. Figure out how much money that you have to work with, whether you’re paying yourself, your parents are paying, if you have any financial aid, if you plan on taking out student loans, and if you earned any scholarships. You don’t want to start a school that you really can’t afford and end up with huge student loans that you’ll spend the rest of your life paying off. Weigh this decision very carefully and be real with yourself.
    • Area of Study: You’ll want to choose a school that offers the degree programs that interest you and maybe even a school that specializes in your area of interest. Look at the school’s degree programs and look at transfer options. For instance if you start school at a school that only offers associate’s programs, you want to make sure that you enter a program that allows you to easily transfer credits into a bachelor’s program later at another university.

    Grand Canyon South Rim

    The South Rim is the most visited rim at the Grand Canyon. It’s open year round and has hotel and lodging options both inside the Canyon as well as around in nearby towns. When looking for a place to stay at the Grand Canyon, first determine how many days you plan on being there and what kind of tours you would like to take.

    For most South Rim visitors, one day is enough to take pictures, walk around the rim and even take a helicopter tour or bus tour. If this sounds like your plan, consider staying in a nearby town like Williams, Flagstaff or even Sedona. These places offer more hotel, dining and entertainment options than in or near the Grand Canyon, and will enhance you experience of the Great Southwest.

    If you’re planning on exploring the the Grand Canyon more in depth, staying in or near the park is a great idea. This will allow you to take longer hikes, experience the sunrises and sunsets at the Canyon and learn more about what makes the Grand Canyon a Natural Wonder of the World. Hotels in the South Rim of the Grand Canyon include El Tovar Hotel, Bright Angel Lodge, Maswik Lodge, Kachina Lodge, Thunderbird Lodge, Yavapai Lodge and Phantom Ranch. Just outside of the park is the town of Tusayan, which completely revolves around Grand Canyon South Rim visitors. You’ll be able to find budget friendly motels and comfortable family hotels just 6 miles from the South Rim entrance of the Grand Canyon.

    Williams is about 60 miles from the South Rim of the Grand Canyon and is a charming town located on the Historic Route 66. Williams is where the Grand Canyon Railway departs from and is only 35 miles from Flagstaff. Williams hotels are the closest to the Grand Canyon without actually staying at the Grand Canyon.

    Flagstaff is about 79 miles from the South Rim of the Grand Canyon and is a great place find a hotel you’re looking to explore more of the Southwest. Flagstaff is a vibrant town chalk full of outdoor enthusiasts and local breweries. Depending on the time of year, visitors can go skiing and sledding in Flagstaff, go for scenic hike up Mt. Humphreys or any one of the innumerable hikes in this part of Arizona. Flagstaff hotels make a great basecamp for anyone wanting to spend a few days exploring.

    Sedona is known for its beautiful red rocks and rare energy. Located about 110 miles from the South Rim of the Grand Canyon, visitors will encounter nothing short of a stunningly experience. Sedona offers luxury resort spas, cozy bed and breakfasts and cabins along the creek. If you’re more of a luxury traveler, a Sedona hotel might be the way to go when visiting the Grand Canyon.

    South Rim Tours

    The South Rim is most accessible and therefore the most popular destination at Grand Canyon, attracting 5 million visitors each year. The South Rim is where you’ll find visitor’s centers, historical buildings, and over two dozen viewpoints and trailheads. Because of its popularity, visitors should expect crowds particularly in the busiest seasons – spring, summer and fall.

    A guided tour of some sort is an excellent way to experience the Grand Canyon and is highly recommended. Helicopter tours and air tours on a plane over the Grand Canyon is both a great way to see the Grand Canyon as well as get away from the crowds. Other ways of seeing the South Rim of the Grand Canyon is is to book a van, Jeep, bus or Railway tour to ride up to Grand Canyon Village and have several hours to do the aforementioned activities at the rim, then take a ride back to the tour’s origin in the late afternoon.

    Many of the South Rim visitors get to the park, look over the edge of the Grand Canyon, take a few pictures and call it a day. It’s quite the trek to make just to look at a big hole in the ground! But that’s just it! The Grand Canyon is a Natural Wonder of the World for so many reasons. Experience and learn more about the Grand Canyon from a tour that fits your travel and learning style.     Program Overview

    The Graduate Certificate in Nonprofit Management provides an overview of central concepts in managing nonprofit organizations and is intended to meet the needs of students seeking a focused experience in preparation for a career in nonprofit organizations. It may be appropriate for students who seek to expand their knowledge but who do not wish to commit to a master’s degree program.

    Certificate students enroll in regular courses of the Trachtenberg School of Public Policy and Public Administration, which carry graduate credit. Regular graduate tuition and fees apply. Under certain circumstances, credit earned in the certificate program also may be applied toward the Master of Public Administration (MPA) degree. However, admission to the MPA degree program has separate requirements from those of the certificate program and students considering going on for a degree should consult with a faculty advisor early in their program.

    This program is available at the George Washington University’s main campus in downtown Washington, DC. It is not available as a distance-learning program.

    Prior academic records:

    Transcripts are required from all colleges and universities attended, whether or not credit was earned, the program was completed, or the credit appears as transfer credit on another transcript. Unofficial transcripts from all colleges and universities attended must be uploaded to your online application. Official transcripts are required only of applicants who are offered admission.

    If transcripts are in a language other than English, English language translations must be provided. The English translation alone should be uploaded into your application.

    Linda Van Ingen, Ph.D. Professor

    Linda Van Ingen focuses her research on modern U.S. political and social history with a special interest in issues of gender, race, class and aging. Van Ingen’s publications contribute to the historiography of women in politics by exploring the limits of state suffrage for women candidates and by introducing the concept of a gendered politics of accommodation. She advises graduate student thesis projects in areas of civil rights, women’s history and modern U.S. political history.

    To be accepted to this program, you must have:

    A 3.25 undergraduate GPA, or submit GRE scores

    Admission Requirements

    Admission to the doctoral program occurs prior to initiation of course work. The number of students admitted will be limited to ensure quality of program and dissertation advising.

    Applicants who are successful in their application for admission for entrance into the doctoral program will meet the following criteria:

    • Master’s degree with a minimum 3.0 GPA
    • A completed Doctoral Application for Admission
    • Submission of rationale statement, including personal goals for applying for admission to the program.
    • Transcripts: Submission of official transcripts of all previous credits.
    • Testing: Current Graduate Record Exam or Miller Analogies Test scores (test taken within the prior three years).
    • Letters of recommendation from two persons qualified to comment upon the applicant’s potential for doctoral study.
    • Past experience: At least two years of successful teaching/administrative experience (required only for doctoral programs in K-12 education).
    • Writing sample: Submit a paper that demonstrates your ability to write in a scholarly manner at a level typical of graduate work. A paper from your master’s program would be most appropriate. This sample should approach, but not exceed, five pages in length.

    Once the admission file is completed and initially reviewed, qualified applicants will complete an extemporaneous writing sample followed by a personal interview with an admission committee.

    Admission recommendations are submitted from the admission committee to the Dean of the College of Education, who will then make the final admission decision and communicate the decision to the candidate. The admission committee may establish an admission waiting list, if necessary. Students admitted should consult the Doctoral Program Handbook for additional program information.

    Students who are applying for admission to the doctoral program are precluded from enrolling in any courses which met doctoral program requirements until the student has been completely admitted to the program.

    The Graduate Admission Committee reserves the right to request additional information or documentation deemed helpful in evaluating applicants for admission.

    Additional Testing

    Depending on program of study, students may be required to take additional tests such as the Graduate Record Exam, Miller Analogies Test and/or the Illinois Basic Skills Test. A writing sample, essay, FBI fingerprint criminal background check, valid teaching certificate and/or interview may also be required to determine what may be necessary for a student to qualify for a graduate program.

    Pending Status

    Doctoral and international students are not eligible for Pending Status .

    International Students

    Applicants who are not U.S. citizens are required to meet all admission standards listed for the program they wish to enter. In addition, the following are required to be considered for admission:

    • TOEFL: A score of at least 550 (paper-based) or 72 (internet) minimum requirement on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), or successful completion of Level 112 at an English Language School (ELS) unless English is the native language, and an unqualified recommendation from an ELS program director is provided. (International students who have earned an advanced degree from an accredited institution in the United States do not need to submit TOEFL scores.)
    • Transcripts: Official transcripts from each college/university attended showing all college/university course work with certified English translations of all transcripts originally prepared in any other language. Also, any international transcripts must be evaluated by a Concordia-approved international credentialing service such as WES (World Education Services), ECE (Educational Credential Evaluators), or AACRAO (American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admission Officers).
    • Financial Support: A certified document guaranteeing adequate financial support for at least the student’s first year of study and, barring any unforeseen circumstances, adequate funding from the same or an equally dependable source, for subsequent years.
    • Medical: A physical exam, adequate medical insurance, and proof of immunization are required prior to enrollment.
    • Regular Admission Requirements: International students must qualify for regular admission to a degree program in order to enroll.

    All documents must be received by the Office of Graduate Admission and Enrollment Services at least three months prior to the expected date of entry. I-20 forms may be issued only after University acceptance is granted and will remain in effect only for students who continue to make satisfactory progress as full-time students in an accepted university program.
