capture network traffic windows

Recommend Fiddler and Fiddler2 [Mark. Rasmussen above], and another GUI http(s) capture that runs on MS Windows and ‘other’ systems.

Looks to have the same feature/functionality as Fiddler2, with the addition that it can run on non MS platforms (could be useful for some.)

The Sales Pitch?

WebScarab is a framework for analysing applications that communicate using the HTTP and HTTPS protocols. WebScarab has several modes of operation, implemented by a number of plugins. In its most common usage, WebScarab operates as an intercepting proxy, allowing the operator to review and modify requests created by the browser before they are sent to the server, and to review and modify responses returned from the server before they are received by the browser. WebScarab is able to intercept both HTTP and HTTPS communication. The operator can also review the conversations (requests and responses) that have passed through WebScarab

Some of the basic functionality of value to web developers, security reviews, in WebScarab include: (from their website)

Fragments – extracts Scripts and HTML comments from HTML pages as they are seen via the proxy, or other plugins

Proxy – observes traffic between the browser and the web server. The WebScarab proxy is able to observe both HTTP and encrypted HTTPS traffic, by negotiating an SSL connection between WebScarab and the browser instead of simply connecting the browser to the server and allowing an encrypted stream to pass through it. Various proxy plugins have also been developed to allow the operator to control the requests and responses that pass through the proxy.

Manual intercept – allows the user to modify HTTP and HTTPS requests and responses on the fly, before they reach the server or browser.

Beanshell – allows for the execution of arbitrarily complex operations on requests and responses. Anything that can be expressed in Java can be executed.

Reveal hidden fields – sometimes it is easier to modify a hidden field in the page itself, rather than intercepting the request after it has been sent. This plugin simply changes all hidden fields found in HTML pages to text fields, making them visible, and editable. Bandwidth simulator – allows the user to emulate a slower network, in order to observe how their website would perform when accessed over, say, a modem.

OWASP, the developers of WebScarab also have a number of other Open Source Projects relevant to reviewing website performance, functionality, security et. al.

Out-of-State Traffic Violations

Most motorists will at some point end up driving out of state lots of people drive across state borders for business and pleasure. But what happens if you get a traffic ticket while driving through another state? Do you have to go to court or pay the fine? And will an out-of-state traffic conviction affect your home-state driving record?

Laws varies by state, but generally, an out-of-state traffic citation will have the same effect as if the violation was committed in the driver s home state.

Interstate Traffic Violation Compacts

Most states are parties to one or more interstate traffic violation compacts. These compacts are agreements among the member states to share information and follow certain procedures when dealing with out-of-state traffic offenders. The Driver s License Compact (DLC ) and Nonresident Violator Compact (NVC ) are two such agreements that nearly all states are members to. (Only Wisconsin and Michigan have declined to join both the DLC and NVC.)

Driver s License Compact

In 1961, Nevada became the first state to join the DLC. All but five states are now members. The nonmembers are:

The DLC requires all member states to report traffic convictions of out-of-state drivers to the drivers home state. The home-state licensing authority (Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) or similar state agency) is then generally supposed to treat the conviction as if it had been committed in the home state.

Take, for example, a California driver who s convicted of speeding in Arizona. First, Arizona reports the conviction to California. The California DMV then takes the same action it would take if the driver had been caught speeding in California. In other words, the Arizona conviction counts as one point the point value for a speeding violation in California against the motorist s California driving record. (Like many other states, California uses a point system to track and penalize moving violations.)

Nonresident Violator Compact

The NVC was created in the late 1970s. Currently, all states have joined except six:

The NVC helps member states ensure that out-of-state traffic offenders pay their fines and otherwise comply with the terms of their citations. If an out-of-state motorist fails to comply with the terms of a citation, the member state that issued the ticket reports the failure to the driver s home state. The home state then suspends the driver s license until the driver satisfies the conditions of the out-of-state ticket.

The Nonresident Violator Compact helps member states ensure that out-of-state traffic offenders pay their fines and otherwise comply with the terms of their citations.

Contesting an Out-of-State Ticket

If you get an out-of-state ticket, you ll first need to decide whether to fight the ticket or just pay it and move on. Generally, you can avoid having to go to court by paying the citation within a certain period of time (usually 21 or 30 days). You can typically pay by mail, over the internet, or in person at the courthouse.

Contesting a ticket. however, usually means going to court or hiring an attorney to go for you. If you re just passing through the state where you got the ticket, going to court yourself probably isn t an option. In such a case, hiring a traffic attorney might be the best way to go if your mind is set on fighting the citation. (Read about some things to consider when deciding whether to hire a traffic lawyer .)

Questions for Your Attorney

  • If I have a Michigan or Wisconsin driver s license and get an out-of-state ticket, will there be any consequences if I don t pay it?
  • When you get cited for an out-of-state moving violation, can you do traffic school in your home state to get the ticket off your driving record?
  • If another state issues an arrest warrant because of an unpaid traffic ticket, can I be arrested in my home state?
  • Do the DLC and NVC apply to parking violations ?
  • Can I hold a driver s license in two different states at the same time?

Welcome to Ohio Traffic Ticket Help
A Service of Luxenburg Levin, LLC, Attorneys At Law

Approximately 35,000,000 people across the country will receive traffic tickets this year, mostly for speeding. As many as 95% of these tickets are not contested. Traffic tickets are big business for local courts and governments throughout the United States. Some cities generate millions of dollars a year from traffic ticket fines. Some smaller rural towns can generate most of their operating budgets from the money they earn through traffic tickets.

Most people take the path of least resistance and just pay their fines, thinking it is not worth the trouble to contest their tickets. Before you just pay up, consider that your traffic ticket could cost you a lot more than just the fine you pay. Traffic convictions and guilty pleas can result in increases in your insurance premiums of up to 50% or more. The points charged against your driver s license can lead to your license being suspended for six months in Ohio. Most other states have some form of license suspension rules for repeat offenders as well. If you are not an Ohio driver, convictions or guilty pleas from Ohio traffic tickets are almost always reported back to your home state. In addition, many employers look unfavorably on employees or job candidates with poor driving records, especially if your license is suspended and you can t get to work. If you hold a commercial driver s license, your traffic ticket could cost you your entire livelihood.

The experienced attorneys at Luxenburg Levin, LLC can help you negotiate a lower fine (or in some cases no fine) and fewer or no points on your driving record. If your case must go to trial, we have the knowledge and experience necessary to give you the best possible chance to beat your traffic or speeding ticket.

This Ford can drive itself in motorway traffic and park while you wait International Business Times 17 hrs ago

Alistair Charlton

Autonomous driving is no longer reserved for luxury cars, as Ford reveals plans to bring driverless systems – including one which can park a car without the driver being inside – to our roads very soon. The systems will be affordable alternatives to those already offered by BMW and Tesla.

Called Traffic Jam Assist, the first system works alongside the car’s cruise control and uses cameras and radar to monitor road markings and surrounding traffic. When driving in stop-start traffic on a busy motorway, the feature can be switched on via the steering wheel; it then takes control of the steering, brakes and accelerator.

Shown off for the first time in Germany, the system will keep the car in the centre of your lane, a safe distance from the vehicle in front, and below the speed limit (which the driver sets before switching the system on). It also works, unlike current cruise control systems, after the car has come to a halt, with it setting off again to keep up with the flow of the traffic.

Drivers must keep a loose hold of the steering wheel, as they are instructed to with Tesla Autopilot. and if they do not then a series of visual and audible warnings will raise the alarm. Resting your arm on the door and a fingertip on the wheel is enough to tell the car you are ready to take control if necessary.

Making any input through the wheel, pedals or indicator stalk switches the system off. Unlike Tesla Autopilot. the Ford cannot autonomously switch lanes when the driver flicks the indicator. A feature similar to this appears in the 2016 BMW 7-Series. allowing the car to keep itself in lane on the motorway.

For many drivers, fighting heavy traffic on the way to work leaves them stressed, angry and exhausted, even before the work day begins. Traffic Jam Assist helps the driver maintain the distance to the vehicle ahead and helps to keep the vehicle centred in the lane. The system aims to reduce driver stress in dense traffic scenarios, said Reid Steiger of Ford Europe’s Automated Driving division.

A car which parks itself – with no driver inside

Next up is Remote Park Assist, an upcoming feature which will let car owners park in tight spaces without even being in the car. They park near the space, step out, then use the car fob to tell the car to park itself. The system works in reserve too, so drivers can extract their car from a tight space if someone has parked too close to them. Again, this system is also available on the new 7-Series, but Ford will bring it into the hands of drivers on a much lower budget.

Remote parking has been in development by Ford for some time, having first been demonstrated to IBTimes UK back in 2013. The technology has presumably come a long way in the last two years, but Ford is still refusing to say when remoter parking – and the autonomous motorway traffic driving system – will be available to consumers.

At Least 5 Children Die in School Bus Crash in Chattanooga

Chattanooga Police Chief on Bus Crash

Fred Fletcher, the Chattanooga, Tenn. police chief, said on Monday night that the 24-year-old bus driver of an elementary school bus was arrested on five counts of vehicular homicide. A warrant has been issued for the bus’s black box.

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — At least five children were killed on Monday afternoon when a school bus carrying nearly three dozen elementary school students overturned and crashed into a tree in Chattanooga, according to local officials.

About two dozen of the 35 Woodmore Elementary School students on the bus were taken to hospitals here after the accident, which occurred before 3:30 p.m. about a mile from the school, Chief Fred Fletcher of the Chattanooga Police Department said on Monday night.

The police arrested the bus driver, Johnthony Walker, 24, on Monday night and charged him with five counts of vehicular homicide, as well as reckless endangerment and reckless driving, the police chief said.

“Our thoughts, our prayers and all of our efforts are with the families of these children and others impacted by this tragedy,” said Chief Fletcher, who described the accident as a single-vehicle crash.

Information on the conditions of the children who were taken to hospitals was unavailable. An earlier report from the Hamilton County district attorney general’s office had said at least six children died.

Road conditions at the accident site, at Howard Avenue and Talley Road, appeared to be “clear and dry,” Chief Fletcher said. He added that officials were investigating whether speed or alcohol had played a role in the crash.

“Certainly speed is being investigated very, very strongly,” he said, noting that the investigation was continuing. The National Transportation Safety Board was sending a team to investigate.

Emergency crews worked for hours to remove the children from the bus. Students who were not taken to the hospital walked away “looking dazed with cuts on their faces,” The Chattanooga Times Free Press reported .

Heartbreaking school bus crash in Chattanooga. My thoughts and prayers are with the children, families and first responders.

On Monday night, more than a dozen cars filled the parking lot of Woodmore Elementary School, where school district employees had gathered to prepare the school for a day of grief.

Sometime after the accident, a woman went to a nearby store and bought every stuffed animal in stock, about 50. She told employees at Woodmore, where an orange crate of plush Fuzzy Friends sat in the school office after nightfall, that she planned to return with an animal for every student by day’s end on Tuesday.

Blood Assurance, a nonprofit regional blood center, extended its hours at three locations in Chattanooga, a city of about 175,000 in southeastern Tennessee. At 9 p.m. there was still a line out the door at one site.

“The response has been enormous,” said Mindy Quinn, a spokeswoman for the center.

Representative Chuck Fleischmann, who represents the state’s Third Congressional District, which includes Chattanooga, turned to Twitter to express his condolences to the victims. “I am absolutely heartbroken over this tragedy,” he said, “and I will pray for the children and their families.”
