Serena Williams And Amy Schumer Featured In The 2016 Pirelli Calendar

Since 1964, tire maker Pirelli has been producing calendars. Each of the twelve months are usually graced by a scantily clad female photographed in an artistic manor. The calendars, still filling their role as a marketing device, have carried many different themes through the decades, though never departing too far from the soft-core exposure of the feminine form.

That has changed for 2016.

Shot by photographer Annie Leibovitz. the upcoming edition takes a new approach to the annual publication. Gone are the seductive stares of bare-breasted 20-somethings, replaced by the weathered, soft smiles of well-known women who have, in several cases, spent decades making a name for themselves by bullishly fighting for their place in modern society.

The lineup of ladies includes the hugely influential Yao Chen and Tavi Gevinson, two actress and social media moguls, along with pop culture icons Yoko Ono and Patti Smith. Tennis legend Serena Williams and comedian Amy Schumer are present, as well as film director Ava DuVernay and film producer Kathleen Kennedy, whose latest works include Selma and the newest installment of Star Wars. respectively.

The traditional model-type isn’t completely abandoned, as the Russian supermodel Natalia Vodianova appears on January’s page. Her look, however, falls right in line with the other women in the calendar. A strong motherly presence shines through the image as she holds her baby while draped in a satin robe. It’s sensual, yet very tasteful.

The very fact I’m writing this (and you are reading this) shows Pirelli’s well-hatched plan of deviating from the normal. Perhaps the cue was taken from Playboy. which announced in October that its monthly magazine would no longer feature nude photographs. Regardless of Pirelli’s inspiration, its 2016 calendar is getting far more attention than it otherwise would have. Suddenly it’s popular to be PG-13.

The Truck – Background Review

The truck or pickup truck, to differentiate it from commercial cargo haulers, shares its roots with the most famous of all cars – the Ford Model T. It is a famous auto-lore how Henry Ford modified one of his Model T cars to make it into a truck by removing the top part of the back part and putting a flat base there for cargo. Henry Ford named this his Ford T Runabout with Pickup Body and its debut was in 1925. The Ford Pickup became very popular very quickly with all kinds of small businessmen from builders to farmers using this new revolutionary vehicle. Within 10 years, Ford had already sold well over 2.5m pickups prompting other manufacturers to quickly design and launch pickup designs of their own.

These days there are many different types of commercially available trucks ranging in size from the compact to the full and even super size truck. Compact pickups tend to dominate the truck market and surprisingly, given the very American roots of the pickup truck, the main manufacturers were and still are Japanese with the first ones introduced by Nissan and Toyota. American manufacturers have typically dominated the large truck sector of the market with the high horsepower high torque trucks generally commonplace in the more rural parts of the USA and Canada. These ‘power’ trucks are generally not very commonplace outside of the American continent as their huge size makes them impractical for most of Europe and the Far East.

There has been a dramatic shift in the construction of trucks over the last two decades largely driven by the growing popularity of the SUV sector of the market. The rise of the SUV initially ate into some of the market with many of them offering similar levels of power and the same kind of specialized equipment such as front winches. In addition to having many of the same benefits of a truck, the SUV was much more comfortable. As a result, truck manufacturers responded by starting to increase the level of luxury in their higher end models and included many of the same gadgets found in their Sedan lines.

Most modern pickups now include options for a larger cab so that the pickup can also be used as a comfortable family vehicle, have a variety of different interior designs including leather upholstery, and feature most of the common extras such as air conditioning, top quality sound systems and satellite navigation which has allowed the truck industry to reclaim much of the ground lost initially to SUVs.

The key modern manufacturers in the compact pickup range are still the Japanese with the Nissan Frontier and the Toyota Tacoma dominating in this area. In the full truck size, the American manufacturers still reign supreme with the Ford 150 and 350 the most popular followed by the Ram 1500 and the GMC Sierra HD 2500 and 3500. There have also been some improvements in the fuel economy of modern trucks although most of the larger ones still struggle to get to 15mpg.

2013 Minivan/Van Buying Guide

Top Recommended Minivans/Vans

The minivan rarely gets respect, yet nothing else matches its practical utility when it’s time to move a lot of people or a lot of stuff, and this is something that parents, carpoolers, business owners or yard-sale junkies can all appreciate. The minivan’s sliding rear doors and low step-in height afford easy access for passengers, while its assortment of storage spaces and reconfigurable seating arrangement deftly solve transportation problems you didn’t even know you had. Even if cargo-hauling tops your list of requirements, both minivans and full-size vans have you covered. And from a fuel economy standpoint, minivans generally achieve better gas mileage than most full-size SUVs. The minivan deserves some respect for the expert way it meets such a wide array of challenges.

The Honda Odyssey tops our list of recommended minivans for 2013. We feel it’s the most well-rounded of the people haulers on the market thanks to its smooth, quiet ride, briskly powerful yet fuel-efficient V6, highly versatile interior and bountiful complement of available convenience features. We’re also big fans of the Odyssey’s agile handling. Don’t get us wrong, as this is still a minivan, but this Honda’s recently retuned suspension makes it feel much less like a behemoth around corners. And though the Odyssey can be pricier than its competitors, its user-friendly elements like an easy-to-stow third-row seat and versatile second-row seating (which can be configured to accommodate up to three child seats) make it the minivan we recommend the most.

Moving up to second place this year is the Nissan Quest. With better-quality interior materials than the Odyssey, super-convenient fold-flat second and third rows and Nissan’s excellent continuously variable transmission (CVT), the Quest is a worthy contender in the minivan prize fight. And we should know, since we’ve spent the better part of a year getting to know one in our long-term fleet. Though the Quest only seats seven (compared to the available eight-passenger seating of most of its rivals) and has less cargo space than competitors, it delivers a higher level of driver engagement and stand-out styling. The Nissan Quest is a minivan, yet it also wants to be something more than that.

Even though it’s third, don’t assume the Toyota Sienna comes in last. It’s comfortable, roomy, well-built and has certain high-end features that you won’t find on the Odyssey, like keyless ignition/entry and adaptive cruise control. Plus the Sienna offers all-wheel drive, which is a must-have in less consistently temperate climes. As a whole, the Sienna is an excellent seven- or eight-passenger minivan choice for larger families. Lastly, if a full-size minivan is more than you need in a kidmobile but you’d still like six-passenger capacity and the miracle of sliding doors, take a look at the smaller Mazda 5. a micro minivan that could be just right for you.

2011 IIHS TOP SAFETY PICKs #cheap #car #rent

#2011 cars

Top Safety Pick s by year

IIHS conducts vehicle tests to determine crashworthiness — how well a vehicle protects its occupants in a crash. It also rates vehicles for front crash prevention, systems that warn the driver or brake automatically to avoid or mitigate a frontal collision. The vehicles that perform best in the tests qualify for Top Safety Pick. which has been awarded since the 2006 model year, or Top Safety Pick+. which was inaugurated in 2013.

To qualify for 2011 Top Safety Pick. a vehicle must earn good ratings in the moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraint tests and must offer electronic stability control.

Models that earn Top Safety Pick are the best vehicle choices for safety within size categories. Size and weight influence occupant protection in serious crashes. Larger, heavier vehicles generally afford more protection than smaller, lighter ones. Thus, a small car that’s a Top Safety Pick doesn’t necessarily afford more protection than a bigger car that doesn’t earn the award.

All 2011 Top Safety Pick s are 2011 models unless otherwise noted.

2016 Audi RS Q3 By ABT Sportsline

First unveiled at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show, the Audi RS Q3 has developed quite a nice following over in Europe. I wish I could say the same thing here in the US, but since it’s not available in this part of the world, any form of chest-beating for the high-powered crossover would be irrelevant.

Audi seems to be perfectly happy with the reception the RS Q3 has received across the Atlantic and customers in that area are just as happy knowing that German tuner ABT Sportsline has just unveiled a tuning kit for the high-powered Q3 crossover.

The kit is typical ABT Sportsline. No flash, all substance. Sure, it has some decal stripes to add some flavor to the RS Q3’s appearance, but everything else included in the kit is there for the purpose of improving the crossover’ s performance and handling capabilities. The engine upgrade, in particular, is impressive. Same thing with the suspension modifications that resulted in a lower and wider stance for the RS Q3.

There’s a lot to like about this new kit for the RS Q3. The fact that it comes from ABT Sportsline is probably the least surprising thing about it.

Best Muscle Cars

The Top TenX W

1 1969 Boss 429 Mustang

This is hands down the greatest and most fierce car the world will ever see. It’s style is the very characteristic other muscle cars try (AND FAIL) to imitate. Unoriginal models like the 69′ Camaro and the 70′ Dodge Challenger don’t stand a chance against this hell-raising machine. Definitely the right choice for #1.

This deserves the number 1 spot. It is the all time best muscle car ever. The camaro doesn’t stand a chance against this, neither does the charger or the firebird.

This list is stupid the 1960s mustangs were the best cars and they still are nothing will be are and I mean never will beat a ford FORD IS THE BEST!

Can’t beat the 429!

The 1969 Camaro is the best looking muscle car of all time.

My dad has always wanted one. I grew up always wanting one too. No other car has the heritage of a chevy!

Because their body style is revolutionary for the year and with the 427 they would kick a dodge charger any day of the week

This car is the bomb

3 1969 Dodge Charger R/T SE

This car is beast, my use to have one and it was so bad butt and they are kinda cheap

This is where its at. It has power and beauty. My dream car is the 1970 Dodge Charger, black with black interior.

This car is potent and is the sole definition of pure American muscle, this car has the meanest purr and rumbles the ground when standing anywhere close to the car. This thing burns through gas with its 7.0 liter displacement, but that ‘merican muscle for ya!

Clearly the king of all

4 1970 Chevelle SS 454

The first car I ever owned and for only being 17 now it’s a hell of a good start. Back in the day these chevelle’s could easily dominate the drag strip 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year and even on holidays! When you think of a muscle car the 70 Chevelle SS is what you think of. Not to mention the only cars on this list that are actually muscle cars are the Charger, and this beast. The rest are really pony cars. God Bless America. We are the only country in the world with the talent to build all these cars on this list. Think to yourself, what do you want to drive. A toyota prius or a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS. It’s your choice.

I see a list of 7 pony cars and 3 real muscle car. Shame. The 70 Chevelle had over 500 horsepower out of the box, a balance of straight and curved body lines, and a menacing look. Just don’t put on chrome rims and you have one of the nastiest, most powerful cars to be produced with 8 cylinders. This American monster packs more power than the “worlds most powerful production V8” in the Mercedes SLS AMG. Seriously, how is this not number 1?

Great car, big engine, manly feeling. It’s everything you can ask from a muscle car. I’d have one any time of the year. It’s the car of my dreams. If you have this car you don’t need a house, you just need a garage to work on it, and you will know you’ve won the happiness lottery.

I owned a 70 Chevelle SS, best Muscle car on the ROAD in handling and looks and speed AWESOME car..

Not exactly very streamlined or anything like a Lamborghini Gallardo but in a way it looks super cool, the front of it just says

2016 McLaren MP4-X Concept

McLaren has had a rough 2015 Formula One season, with its new Honda power unit not living up to expectations. Having finished the season next to last in the constructors championship standings, 2016 can only be an improvement for the Brits. But, despite not being able to win a single race in 2015, McLaren made tremendous progress toward the end of the season and even designed a brand-new Formula One car, the MP4-X.

Unfortunately, the MP4-X isn t the company s race car for 2016, but a conceptual vision for the future of Formula One. I say unfortunately only because we won t get to see it on the race track anytime soon; otherwise, this concept car is as cool and futuristic as they get. Not only because it looks as if it came from the future, but because it packs an enormous amount of technology that s likely to become the norm in a few years.

“With the futuristic McLaren MP4-X concept race car, we wanted to peer into the future and imagine the art of the possible. We have combined a number of F1’s key ingredients – speed, excitement and performance, with the sport’s emerging narratives – such as enclosed cockpits to enhance driver safety, and hybrid power technologies,” said John Allert, Group Brand Director of McLaren Technology.

There s no word as to when this concept race car will be shown to the public, but until that happens you can have a closer look at all the technology behind it in our review below.

Citroen C4 Cactus Wins 2015 World Car Design Of The Year Award

As with each edition of the awards, the candidates were first reviewed by a panel consisting of five highly respected design experts. The 75 World Car Awards jurors then voted on the expert’s recommendations. World Car Design of the Year candidates are required to be available in quantities of at least 10 in one major market during the period beginning January 1st, 2014 and ending May 31st, 2015.

“The Cactus is a truly innovative piece of design. It has an appealingly distinct exterior announced first by its slender upper front lights, proportions slightly different to any other car, and by those stand-out ‘air-bumps’ that help safeguard against parking scrapes. Inside it eschews lots of dials and buttons for a very minimal uncluttered approach: controls centered on and around a central digital screen and many of the core surfaces and volumes kept linear, reduced, and pleasantly un-car-like. The Cactus design is a proper breath of fresh air,” the experts that favored the C4 Cactus concluded.

This is the second Citroen to win the World Car Design of the Year, after the C4 won the inaugural edition in 2006.

Consumer Reports American Top Picks 2010

Every year we look at our Top Pick list from an alternative point of view, highlighting the best of the domestic industry. While we support buying the best car for your needs, regardless of where it’s made, our mailbag and e-mail inbox shows us that many buyers prefer to buy from an American brand. This is especially evident as Chrysler, Ford, and General Motors fight their way back from recent market challenges. (Read: Who makes the best cars? )

The good news is that preferring a domestic car doesn’t condemn you to a bad product. Indeed, two of the vehicles on this list, the Chevrolet Traverse and Silverado, are on our our official Top Picks list, as well. In addition, Ford has done notably well in reliability. For example, the Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan have proven to be more reliable than a Honda Accord or Toyota Camry. While these high-scoring cars come in a notch below some Japanese competitors in the marketplace as a whole, the Fusion/Milan/Lincoln MKZ sedans show up a lot when looking at domestic-branded Top Picks, as does Ford in general.

Given those parameters, we present the domestic-branded Top Picks for 2010. We have also included the top-scoring domestic-branded vehicles in each category and below provide additional insights into the list.
