2016 Audi RS Q3 By ABT Sportsline

First unveiled at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show, the Audi RS Q3 has developed quite a nice following over in Europe. I wish I could say the same thing here in the US, but since it’s not available in this part of the world, any form of chest-beating for the high-powered crossover would be irrelevant.

Audi seems to be perfectly happy with the reception the RS Q3 has received across the Atlantic and customers in that area are just as happy knowing that German tuner ABT Sportsline has just unveiled a tuning kit for the high-powered Q3 crossover.

The kit is typical ABT Sportsline. No flash, all substance. Sure, it has some decal stripes to add some flavor to the RS Q3’s appearance, but everything else included in the kit is there for the purpose of improving the crossover’ s performance and handling capabilities. The engine upgrade, in particular, is impressive. Same thing with the suspension modifications that resulted in a lower and wider stance for the RS Q3.

There’s a lot to like about this new kit for the RS Q3. The fact that it comes from ABT Sportsline is probably the least surprising thing about it.

2017 Renault Grand Captur

We first saw the Captur Concept at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show, then in 2013, Renault gave us the production-ready Captur at the same show. The car went on sale in France shortly thereafter and has been produced ever since. Because it s so new, it s not surprising we haven’t seen a facelifted model yet, but our spy photographers recently caught a Renault prototype testing under heavy camo, and we have reason to believe it s the new Grand Captur.

According to our sources, Renault insiders have confirmed that a longer-wheelbase Captur is in the pipeline. With that information and these spy shots, it’s evident we’re getting a first look at that new model. As you can see, the car in camo has a lot of the same design cues as the current Captur, but it’s clearly bigger. Given the fact the car is already this far into testing, we could see it in showrooms for the 2017 model year – about the same time we expect to see the facelifted Captur.

Alain Prost Test-Drives The Renault Talisman: Video

Four-time Formula One world champion Alain Prost is an incredibly tough man to please, especially when you put him in a car with the intent of asking to review it. That comes with the territory of someone who knows what he’s talking about anytime he takes the wheel of a car. Renault, however, doesn’t appear to be worried about Prost’s incredibly high standards because in its mind, it has the car that can impress the Frenchman. That car is the new Talisman, Renault’s new mid-size saloon.

Granted, Prost’s status as a brand ambassador for Renault will cause suspicions on his objectivity. To his credit though, he does do a good job of calling it the way he sees, or in this case, feels it. During his time with the Talisman, Prost gives the mid-sized sedan a meticulous commentary, running through the minutiae of the car’s four-point steering and going into detail on the effectiveness of the shock absorption.

These are the kinds of things that a driver like Prost can notice without even thinking about it. He even performs a few driving tests on the Talisman to see how the car responds to these conditions. In the end, it’s not all that surprising to hear Prost rave about the Talisman. He is, after all, associated with the brand. But, his ties to the company notwithstanding, it’s still important to hear a running commentary of a new car from somebody with the knowledge and experience of Prost. At the very least, it gives us a fresh perspective from someone who has probably spent more time in cars that most of us put together.

Only time will tell if Prost’s observations about the Talisman are shared by its future customers. Hopefully, the car validates Prost’s observations and lives up to the hype. It’s arguably one of the freshest models Renault has released in quite some time and it would be a shame if it ends up falling short of its buzz.

2015 Skoda Fabia

“[The new Skoda Fabia] is compact and offers lots of space for passengers and their luggage, a modern crisp design and great efficiency and safety, bringing together all of Skoda brand values,” says Skoda CEO Prof. Dr. h.c. Winfried Vahland. “In designing the third generation, our aim was to bring innovative technology into the small car segment. Our focus was on the environment, fuel efficiency, safety and comfort.”

Next to the Octavia, the Fabia is Skoda’s second best-selling car. It originally debuted in 1999, and the automaker has sold roughly 3.5 million Fabias worldwide, a figure it hopes to add to with the 2015 model.

2015 Skoda Octavia vRS 230

Czech automaker Skoda began producing the Octavia way back in 1996, then it introduced the second-gen model in 2004 and the third-gen model in 2013. It was the start of the third-generation that saw the introduction of the vRS model, which was a more performance-oriented version of the compact liftback sedan. And now with the Geneva Auto Show set to start on March 3, 2015, Skoda is primed to unveil a special version of the vRS dubbed the Octavia vRS 230.

With a few more PS, the vRS 230 is officially the fastest Octavia ever built. The problem is that Skoda lives under the Volkswagen umbrella, and anything it can do, VW can do better. This means that regardless of how much leash VW gives Skoda to beef up the Octavia, it always leaves a little something in reserve to bump up the Octavia’s more expensive platform mate, the Passat.

Does the vRS 230 badge and its added power give the Octavia the oomph it needs to finally one-up the Passat?

Citroen Cactus M Concept

Citroen first introduced the C4 Cactus as a concept vehicle two years ago at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show. Since then, the Cactus has morphed into not only a production crossover, but a variety of separate prototypes as well, including the 2015 Aircross. It also gave the French automaker the 2015 World Car Design of the Year accolade at the New York International Auto Show back in April. Unsurprisingly, the platform has transformed once again, this time as homage to the Mehari light utility off-roader.

Between 1968 and 1988, Citroen produced 144,953 examples of the Mehari. Based on the stout 2CV, the Mehari served many different purposes, including military use in the French army. However, civilians also got to enjoy the Mehari’s rugged capability – not only was it lightweight enough to tackle rough terrain, its plastic body resisted corrosion, even in the grit and salt of repeated beach runs.

Drawing inspiration from the Mehari “and the seaside world associated with” it, the new Cactus M Concept hopes to prove the versatility of the C4 Cactus platform for future models in a variety of different bodystyles, exhibiting several fun ideas along the way.

Updated 09/21/2015: We’ve added a series of new photos we took at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show. Find them in the “Pictures” tab.

2016 Holden Commodore VFII

So this latest facelift of the Holden Commodore will be its last, and Holden even threw it a party in order to send it off in style. Thirty examples of the car, dating back to 1978, were gathered in Port Melbourne to announce the debut of the VFII. As the name implies, the VFII is not a separate generation from the VF (Holden gives each generation a letter designation), but rather a refreshed version to keep the car from going stale during the last couple of years of its life. It looks great too, making it all the more unfortunate that it s going away.

Chris Harris Reviews the HSV Maloo GTS: Video

Even when he’s on holiday, Chris Harris still can’t resist the intoxicating allure of getting behind the wheel of a car, especially a car with the kind of quirky package that the HSV Maloo GTS offers. Actually, “quirky” isn’t even an appropriate word to describe Australia’s famous super ute. The Maloo GTS is a “firecracker with a flatbed.” During his recent vacation in Australia, Harris managed to get his hands on one after getting coaxed by Australia s Wheels magazine, and like he always does, Harris didn’t hesitate putting the Maloo GTS’ four wheels to the ground.

In the end, Harris nailed it when he called the Maloo GTS an ingenious creation by HSV. You probably won’t see anything else quite like it, unless of course some of Europe’s biggest brands decide to jump on the “super ute” bandwagon.

2015 Scion C-HR

Scion s vice president Andrew Gilleland says, “Scion is known for doing things differently, and maybe even being a little weird.” The brand s crossover concept, unveiled at the 2015 Los Angeles Auto Show, is a perfect illustration of this philosophy. The Scion C-HR is a wild and stylish vehicle, communicating equal parts capability and performance. And here s the twist: this funky little vehicle isn t a sports coupe, it s a crossover.

Updated 11/20/2015: We added a series of new images taken during the concept s official unveiling at the 2015 Los Angeles Auto Show.

2016 Scion iA By Skybound Entertainment

Scion has teamed up with Toyo Tires to bring four customized vehicles to the SEMA show that runs from November 3rd to November 6th. There will be four vehicles presented from Scion, one of which is presented by Scion-lifestyle partner Skybound Entertainment.

Skybound Entertainment has made an evil twin of the standard 2016 Scion iA, and it is based on Robert Kirkman’s latest comic book, Outcast. The car, which goes by the name “Outcast” was designed to move and operate on its own, while displaying sequenced light and audio effects. The roof of the car can gyrate, smoke and even change colors while emitting spooky sounds that give the impression that the car is demonically possessed.

The car was built by 5 Axis – a concept vehicle design and fabrication studio, and its modification was managed by Project Leader Geoff Curtis. So, know that you know the basics of the car, click past the jump to get all the details.

Workers Complete Final Shift at Mitsubishi’s Illinois Plant

Mitsubishi’ s production facility in Normal, Illinois officially closed on Monday, November 30, 2015, even as the search for a potential buyer remains open. The closure comes a little over four months after Mitsubishi made the announcement, saying back in July 2015 that it would sell its only assembly plant in the U.S. While it didn’t come as a shock to the 1,200 employees that were laid off work, Monday’s closure also put a lid on relationships built in the last 27 years.

The closure of the facility in Illinois is likely part of a bigger rebranding effort by the company as it tries to focus its full attention in other markets, specifically its home continent in Asia. As was previously mentioned, Mitsubishi already has a full-scale facility in Thailand. More recently, it purchased another factory, this time in the Philippines from Ford. The decision to end production in the U.S. also doesn’t mean that Mitsubishi is going to stop selling cars in the market. The Japanese automaker made that clear when it said that “both current and upcoming” Mitsubishi models will continue to be sold in the U.S. and North America. That’s good news for the Mitsubishi Outlander Sport, currently the company’s best-selling model in the U.S.

As for the laid off employees, numerous efforts are currently being undertaken to get these people back on their feet. Mitsubishi has already promised severance packages for the employees while the McLean County Chamber of Commerce in Normal is scheduled to hold a job fair in December 2015.

It was a bittersweet day for all parties involved in the closure of Mitsubishi’s production facility in Normal, Illinois. But, as the company deemed it necessary, it was a decision that had to be made. With the plant now closed, the search for a buyer continues, one that Mitsubishi hopes will continue to operate the assembly plant and maintain employment for the local community.

Newly Signed Proton and Honda Partnership Could Return Honda to the Sports Car Realm

There had been some reports floating around that DRB-Hicom was seeking a strategic partnership from a Japanese automaker lately, and we just received word that a deal is now in place. Proton will be teaming up with Honda to develop technology enhancements and a new product lineup, as well as share platforms and facilities.

For the most part, Proton builds cheap econoboxes for the UK market, so the direct team up is really not too inspiring. However, peeling back the skin a little bit, you reveal that this deal will likely include its subsidiary, Lotus . While Lotus would benefit greatly from having the technology that Honda has to offer and some financial relief by building certain components together, we are mostly interested in what this deal could potentially bring Honda.

Honda really doesn’t need Proton, as its econobox lineup is stout, but it is lacking a sports car, ever since the S2000 fizzled out in a fit of torque-lacking rage. With Lotus’ expertise being in the lightweight sports car realm and both Honda and Lotus looking for ways to build sports cars without taking on 100 percent of the risk, a team up between the two would be equally beneficial.

According to reports, DRB-Hicom will be laying out Proton’s business plan next month, which will likely include Lotus updates, so we will keep an eye out for this new business plan, and how Honda and Lotus are involved.
