Top national 5-year CD rates pay 2.27%

For savers shopping worthy 5-year CD rates, 2016 has been a year of dashed hopes.

Though the Federal Reserve raised interest rates in December 2015, the top yields in the major CD terms didn’t just fail to rise — some actually dropped.

Searching Bankrate’s extensive database of the day’s best CD rates shows that 60-month yields have been hit especially hard, sitting almost two-tenths of a percentage point lower now than in December 2015.

Fortunately, local deals from credit unions and community banks continue to pay up to three-quarters of a percentage point more than the leading national return — over 3% in one instance.

But when will long-suffering savers finally see some improvement among national offers? It depends on how banks react to what we expect the Fed will announce this week. We’ll fill you in on the details.

The top national deals

Today’s top 5-year return sits at 2.27% APY. down from the 2.45% APY you could earn at the time of the Fed’s hike.

The drop in the lead only tells part of the story, because while in December savers could earn more than 2.00% APY from 16 national banks, that had dwindled to just two banks until recently.

Fortunately, the number of national CD offers above 2.00% has since risen to five banks, after a handful of banks increased their long-term rates over the past month.

The current leader, paying 2.27% APY, is still State Bank of India-Chicago. which is a U.S. branch of India’s largest bank and is FDIC-insured. It has held the top spot alone for four months now.

While today’s leading rate is a letdown from last December, it’s good to remember that it’s still high above the term’s post-recession low of 1.75% APY, endured in the spring of 2013.

TOP 5-YEAR CD RATES: Nationally Available Bank Deals

Earning more with local deals

Of course, there are always some lucky savers who can outearn the top national rate with certificates of deposit from a community bank or credit union.

These institutions often offer chart-topping yields to savers who live or work nearby or are willing to jump through a hoop or two.

Here’s a baker’s dozen of worthy deals, paying qualified savers as much as 3.05% APY on 5-year terms. One of the credit unions even accepts members nationwide.

As always on the deals below, eligibility requirements will apply. So contact the bank or credit union directly to determine if you qualify.

Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky

Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, New Jersey, Alaska

Georgia, Illinois, Iowa, North Dakota, South Carolina, Wisconsin

Waiting for higher returns

If you think you might qualify for any of these deals, they’re worth investigating because they pay about three times more than the current average 5-year return of 0.82% APY. according to our weekly nationwide survey of banks and thrifts.

The average return bottomed out at 0.77% APY in the summer of 2013 and gradually rose to 0.89% APY in spring 2015. But since the Fed’s hike in December 2015, it’s eroded from 0.85% to 0.81% APY.

Rewind to February 2007, before irresponsible mortgage lending led the economy over a cliff. Back then, the national average return for 5-year CDs was 4.02% APY .

But with the financial crisis throwing the economy into a tailspin, the Federal Reserve applied the brakes not only by repressing interest rates to record lows in 2008 but by keeping them anchored there for seven years.

That historic era in the Fed’s timeline officially ended when it made a small rate increase in mid-December 2015.

Although the Fed had indicated it would gradually push interest rates higher over the next several years, global and economic news in 2016 has given the rate-setting committee pause.

Indeed, seven of the committee’s eight 2016 meetings have come and gone without any announcement of a further rate increase.

But at this week’s Fed meeting, most economists and Wall Street forecasters finally expect Hike #2 to be announced.

When that does happen, we hope banks will finally begin to react, as 5-year CD rates could certainly use the boost.

Disclaimer: The rates above were verified Dec. 12, 2016. Credit unions and community banks should be contacted directly to determine eligibility for opening accounts with that institution, as well as to verify current rates.

Yeah, I really wished she specified which credit union accepted nationwide membership.

Shopping for Car Insurance for Teen Drivers, Farmers Insurance, insurance rates for teenage drivers.

Car Insurance Shopping for Teens

It almost happens overnight. One day you’re pushing them down the sidewalk in a little plastic car, the next they’re asking for the keys to the real thing. As a parent, letting your teen take the wheel is a strange feeling; it’s a weird mix of pride, protection, fear, and trust.

As the person who pays for the auto insurance, you might also be terrified about your rates going up.

Shopping for car insurance for your teen driver may seem daunting and expensive, but ask yourself a few key questions. The answers could help make the process a little easier on your blood pressure and your wallet.

1. Which kind of coverage do you want for your teen?

Every driver out there requires basic liability coverage to drive legally. How much liability do they want though? Do you want them to have other types of coverage too, like comprehensive, collision, uninsured/underinsured, or personal injury protection?

  • What kind of car does your teen drive? If it’s old, used, and seen better days, it might not be worth getting comprehensive/collision coverage, since any payout on damages could be less than your deductible. If they’re driving a newer car though, comprehensive and collision coverage is something to consider.
  • Will your teen be driving with passengers? If your teen will be driving friends and family around, consider adding Personal Injury Protection (PIP) or Medical Payments coverage to their policy. These could help pay for injuries to passengers or pedestrians caused by an accident with your teen’s car.

2. Which extras or options do you want for your teen?

Auto insurers offer all kinds of beneficial options and extras that you can add to a policy if you’re so inclined. For young drivers who are inexperienced in emergency situations, or who may get themselves into a fender bender or two, options like these can be invaluable:

  • Towing and roadside assistance
  • Small claims forgiveness
  • Incident forgiveness
  • Accident forgiveness
  • Car rental reimbursement

3. Which discounts can save you money?

Adding a new teen driver to your policy may raise your rates since they can pose an added risk. On the bright side, there are car insurance discounts you may qualify for when you add your teen to your policy, and other’s your teen may can qualify for, like:

  • Good student – your teen’s good grades can save you money.
  • Distant student – if your teen driver goes to school 100 miles or more from home, this discount can help you save.
  • Multi-car – adding your teen driver’s car to your policy can earn you this discount.
  • Driver training – gain experience behind the wheel with a state-approved driving course and your teen can qualify for another discount.

After you talk to your teen and your family, speak with a Farmers agent about your car insurance needs. An agent can provide you with more information, help find discounts, and give you a quote for coverage you want.

20 Year Term Life Insurance – The Most Popular Term Life Plan, 20 year term life insurance rates.

#20 #year #term #life #insurance #rates

Get Quote in Seconds:

20 year term life insurance ratesIt is common for young adults in their early twenties and thirties to put off looking into life insurance. They consider it something that they cannot afford and assume since they are in good health, it is not a priority. However, no matter how healthy someone is, accidents can happen at any time. Without life insurance to help make up missing income, families can quickly find themselves in financial trouble.

The good news is that there is an excellent low cost option for young people just starting out: twenty year term life insurance. Unlike whole life insurance plans, term life covers a preset period of time, which is usually 10, 20 or 30 years. This allows monthly premium payments to be much lower than other life insurance policies, especially if the insured is in good health. The goal of term life insurance is quite simple: it is there to replace lost income.

While this type of life insurance policy is easy to understand and extremely inexpensive, especially compared to other types of insurance, it is not for everyone. As with other kinds of insurance, the cost of monthly premiums is tied to the health of the insured. Therefore, people who are in their 20’s and 30’s are able to benefit from the lowest policy payments. Additionally, term life insurance only offers coverage for a set amount of time, unlike whole life insurance which is permanent and never expires.. The majority of people who chose this type of life insurance intend to be able to self insure after the end of the policy period.

It is important to note that term life insurance is also not a viable option for estate planning or charitable giving, since there is no guarantee of a payout. Further, while it is an excellent option for the majority of families, people who have special needs children may want to consider full life insurance policies. Children with special needs may require funds to ensure that they are taken care of throughout their entire lives, and term life insurance may not be able to provide that.

There are several advantages to choosing term life insurance over other types of insurance. To begin with, it is simple to understand and as mentioned, offers the lowest cost way to provide a high benefit payout to beneficiaries. People are guaranteed the same level premium rate for the duration of the policy, so they do not have to worry about costs increasing over time or due to health issues. Another advantage of using term life insurance is that the payout is income tax free.

Further, while this type of life insurance is set to end when the term has completed, people still have the option of extending their insurance policy on a year by year basis. While people do not have to have another medical exam, their policy premium is based on their age. This is usually a much higher amount than what they were paying for their original policy agreement, but the option is still available. Typically the premiums go up around 50% once the term period expires, however some can be as much as 100% more to convert from 20 year into a permanent policy depending on your age. You can ask your agent to provide you average term life insurance quotes for individuals 20 years older than yourself to get an idea.

When looking into term life insurance, there are two main options that people need to consider: the length of the term and the amount that they are insured for. Most people select term life insurance because they want to be sure that their children will be taken care of financially, should something happen to them. However, after 20 years, children should be able to support themselves, and this type of policy is no longer needed.

The other thing that people should consider when looking at term life insurance is how much they want their payment to their beneficiaries to be. Since the goal is income replacement, choosing a high payout option is not always the best decision, especially since the chosen amount will not be paid out after the term ends. To figure out a realistic payout amount, people should take their yearly income and multiply that number by between 25 or 35. This will take into account for additional income over the years and also ensure that there is more than enough money for a family to live off of without sending monthly premiums through the roof. If you make around $100,000 of annual income per year you would want to purchase a life insurance policy with a face amount of 1 million dollars or more. This will replace your income for about for years.

There are very few people that would not benefit from some form of life insurance, and no one can be sure what will happen to them from one day to the next. While full life insurance policies may be too expensive for many younger people, term life insurance offers people the ability to take care of their families for a low monthly premium. People can easily get a rate quote online to find out how much a term life insurance policy would cost them monthly. These quotes are free, look at pricing from a variety of insurers and only take a few minutes to complete.

Locating Fair Quotes for All Drivers

It s no secret that some drivers have reputations that precede them. Depending on who you ask, those drivers could be teenagers, young adults, seniors or even women. Despite these reputations, many studies have shown that there are drivers in each category that have amazing driving habits—just as there are some in any category you name who do a not-so-great job.

If you fall into a category that carries a driving stigma, you need to know that you will be able to acquire a fair quote when seeking auto insurance. AutoInsuranceComparison.org is happy to help you get the job done!

We work with reputable companies that use traditional criteria to determine their quotes. Of course, it s good to keep in mind that companies are able to legitimately use age (especially youth) as a determining factor when formulating a quote.

The good news is that you have the opportunity to compare quotes with several companies to find the one that works for you. So no matter what category of driver you fall into, you are sure to locate a fair quote you are excited about.

Taking Advantage of Great Discounts

One thing that many drivers don t know when in search of car insurance is that there are tons of discounts to take advantage of. The good news is that these discounts are often offered online. In fact, you may be able to take advantage of discounts simply for purchasing coverage over the Internet.

So how can you know what discounts are out there and which you can take advantage of?

Most insurers offer their own unique discounts; however, you may look out for vehicle safety discounts (ex. vehicle anti-lock brakes), multi-policy discounts (given to individuals who already have or are willing to purchase an additional type of coverage such as homeowners insurance), good student discounts and more.

Lowest insurance rates Lowest insurance rates Lowest insurance rates Lowest insurance rates

Some people are looking to buy car insurance as cheaply as possible. Others are looking for the best car insurance.

What s the difference?

While no car insurance policy will keep you from experiencing any loss or inconvenience at all, the best car insurance policies take care of the big problems and keep them from hurting your finances permanently.

Lowest insurance rates

The basics of getting the best car insurance

If your goal is best rather than cheapest, make sure you:

  • Buy enough liability coverage. You personally are responsible for the costs of injuries and damage you do to others. Liability insurance covers that to a point. A homeowner with a family and any assets needs at least $100,000 in bodily injury liability coverage if he or she injures another driver. And you should buy enough property damage liability insurance to replace the car you hit. Most experts say that need is at least $50,000. Liability limits vary by state. Before settling on your coverage and company, you should research car insurance in your state, since different states have different laws that affect you and the amount of coverage required.
  • Don t worry about ultra-low deductibles. Higher deductibles on certain coverages — comprehensive and collision — will lower your premium. Just be sure you have some savings on hand to pay the higher deductible if you have to file a claim.
  • Double-check your own health insurance. If you don t have health insurance or you have a high-deductible health insurance plan, you may need to consider medical payments or first-party benefits. These coverages also protect your passengers, who would not be covered under your liability coverage.
  • Assume that other drivers are unprepared. About 15 percent of drivers aren t insured at all, and many of the rest have policies that meet only state-minimum requirements. Uninsured and underinsured motorist bodily injury coverages can make up the difference.
  • Protect your car. Physical damage coverages of collision and comprehensive cover your vehicle, unlike property damage liability that only covers other people s property that you damage. Collision covers your vehicle if it hits, or is hit by, another vehicle or object, regardless of fault. Comprehensive covers your vehicle for situations that are normally not your fault. This includes theft, fire, vandalism, striking an animal and damage sustained from acts of nature like hail or flooding.
  • Keep your income in mind. If you are injured in an accident that is your fault, your car insurance won t make up for any lost income unless you have work loss or similar coverage.
  • Consider your life insurance situation. Accidental death benefit pays in the event of an accident that leads to your death or that of another family member.
  • Decide if your situation requires the extras.Gap insurance, for example, is needed only if you owe more on a loan than the car is worth. Towing and labor might be a waste on a newer car with warranty and road service plan. And rental car reimbursement might be handy if your family has only one car, but unnecessary if you have a spare car to use if yours is out of commission.
  • Shop around. Available limits, discounts and coverage options vary from one car insurance carrier to the next. Decide what types of car insurance you want, find car insurance companies that suit your needs, and then compare quotes to get the best price.

Cheap Car Insurance, cheap insurance rates.

#Cheap #insurance #rates

Getting cheap rates on auto insurance

Some insurance companies focus on the bare necessities for you to drive legally—bodily injury and property damage liability with the minimum limits—along with a claims process that’s spotty at best. Rather than take a chance on that cheap car insurance company, you can get quality coverage that won’t break the bank with Nationwide.

Nationwide’s insurance professionals can quickly design a car insurance quote that meets your precise needs, even for those on a budget. Rather than going with the cheapest car insurance quote, make sure the company you choose provides flexible coverage and billing options. For instance, Nationwide allows members to pay monthly, quarterly or semi-annually online, through the mail or over the phone. It’s important to keep long-term flexibility in mind when deciding on an insurance carrier, not just go with the cheapest car insurance option.

How do I get cheap car insurance?

Everybody wants the best value for their car insurance premium. That’s why Nationwide offers many ways to get low rates, including our car insurance discounts. But what really makes us unique is the quality we offer our members. Here are a few benefits Nationwide members get:

  • Dependable, customizable car insurance – you can choose the auto insurance policies that suit your lifestyle and budget.
  • Top-notch claims service – Nationwide Claims Service is there when you need it, 24/7. You can file a claim online or by phone.
  • An annual On Your Side ® Review to ensure your coverage is meeting your needs.
  • Accident Forgiveness helps you avoid increased rates in the event of your first at-fault accident.

How can I lower my car insurance rates?

Certain factors influence your auto insurance rates, including some things you can control:

  • The kind of car you drive – The price and style of your vehicle will impact how much your rates will be. The age of your car also matters; older cars tend to be cheaper to insure.
  • The kind of coverage you choose – If you drive an older car with high mileage, you might consider dropping collision or comprehensive coverage if you need to keep your premiums low.
  • The amount of your deductible – Higher deductibles can significantly lower car insurance premiums. While it could mean more out-of-pocket expenses in the event of an accident, it could also mean paying less over time.
  • Where you keep your car – Rates are determined to some degree by the area in which you live and park your car.
  • The number of drivers on your policy – If you add someone to your policy, your rate will increase, particularly if that “someone” is a new teen driver. Statistically teenagers have more accidents so they’re more expensive to insure.
  • Your driving record – Insurance rates can sometimes increase after an accident or moving violation. The good news? You may qualify for a discount after a certain period of driving accident-free.

You can learn more about the factors that impact the cost of car insurance – and be sure to take them into account as you shop for coverage.

What about those discounts?

You can get more affordable rates on Nationwide coverage with our car insurance discounts, such as:

  • Multiple policies discount – When you carry multiple types of insurance policies from Nationwide (car insurance, home insurance, life insurance, motorcycle insurance and so on), you could qualify for lower premiums on each policy than if you had separate policies from different insurers. Think of it as a discount for bundling.
  • Affinity discount – We have established relationships with several organizations to offer discounts to their members. If you belong to such a group, you may be eligible for a discount on insurance from Nationwide.
  • Good student discount – Cheap car insurance for students is possible with Nationwide.
  • SmartRide ® discount – SmartRide is a tracking tool we offer to reward safe driving. Here’s where rubber truly meets the road – plug the device into your car and it will track your driving habits, such as hard braking, speed and so forth. With a steady hand at the wheel, your low-risk driving can earn you lower insurance premiums.
  • Paperless discount – You’ll save money on stamps and avoid late fees if you sign up to have your Nationwide bill paid automatically at regular intervals from your checking or savings account. Some policyholders may even earn a recurring discount when they agree to receive documents electronically.

AUSTIN — The high cost of fixing damaged cars and trucks in Texas has pushed up the price of auto insurance in the state to 11th highest in the nation, according to a new study analyzing premiums across the country.

The study by the National Association of Insurance Commissioners shows that the price of collision coverage — the portion of an insurance policy that pays to repair damage after an accident — has been climbing in Texas and now ranks as the fifth highest among the states.

By contrast, the amount paid for liability coverage — which has been a target for advocates of limiting lawsuits — ranks 20th among the states.

Overall, Texas drivers paid an average premium of $1,022 a year for insurance, well above the national average of $901. Louisiana drivers were charged the highest premiums in the country, an average $1,270 a year. A dozen states have premiums above $1,000. Rates in the study were based on 2009 data, the most recent nationwide figures available.

Insurance industry spokesman Mark Hanna attributed the high cost of collision coverage to the large percentage of uninsured motorists in the state, as well as increased charges by auto body shops.

“Repair costs have been going up in recent years, and we are seeing ever higher price spikes in the metropolitan areas of Dallas and Houston,” said Hanna, a spokesman for the Insurance Council of Texas.

Rising costs for parts

Jim Quinten, president of the Texas-based Auto Parts and Services Association, said that body shops’ increased prices are the result of higher costs for parts.

“It certainly isn’t the cost of labor, which has not gone up much in several years,” Quinten said. “It’s a huge problem for body shops, and I don’t know how some of the independent shops keep going.”

The average auto insurance premium in Texas has been creeping up in recent years. It once was ranked near the middle of the pack among the states — unlike the rates for homeowners insurance, which have been among the highest in the country for several years.

“We are starting to see in auto insurance rates what we have seen in homeowners rates for a long time — continuous increases,” said Alex Winslow of Texas Watch, a consumer group that tracks insurance issues in the state.

He added that state officials should be wary of the price increases. “I don’t know of any factors that have changed to justify the kind of upward trend we’re seeing,” Winslow said.

Winslow also said the relatively lower cost of liability protection calls into question the arguments that policyholders suing insurers are the driving force behind increasing premiums.

More people, cars

Jerry Johns, president of Southwestern Insurance Information Service, said another factor in auto insurance rates is the growing population in the state, particularly in urban areas.

“Texas is a fast-growing state, and in cities like Dallas, Houston and San Antonio, the population density is contributing to more accidents, particularly where texting, speed or alcohol are involved,” Johns said. He also pointed to the popularity of larger vehicles in Texas such as SUVs and pickups, which are more expensive to repair.

Johns also insisted that the market is competitive and that drivers dissatisfied with what they’re paying can often find better rates by checking around.

Texas has nearly 200 companies selling auto insurance, compared with about 70 that offer homeowners coverage.

“It’s all about competition, and Texas remains one of the most competitive markets in the country,” Hanna said.

Insurers typically recommend body shops to drivers involved in accidents to help control costs and reassure drivers that their vehicles will be properly repaired, he said. But insurers cannot under the law specify that a driver has to go to a certain body shop to get the work done.

Quinten, whose trade association represents body shops, said there are problems with insurers trying to “steer” drivers to certain body shops.

His group was involved in passing legislation a few years ago that barred insurance companies from owning body shops. That measure was approved after Allstate and other companies began acquiring their own body repair shops in Texas, a move that consumer groups and others argued would lead to policyholders being steered to those shops.

The law was later upheld in federal court.

A study by The Dallas Morning News last fall showed that many drivers in the Dallas area saw their insurance rates jump by an average of 8 percent during 2011. Industry representatives attributed the higher premiums to increased medical costs and new minimum limits for liability coverage in Texas.

AT A GLANCE: Factors that affect auto insurance premiums

Driving record and claims history: A good driving record and no at-fault accidents reduces premiums.

Age and, for younger drivers, marital status: Male drivers younger than 25 and unmarried women younger 21 pay the highest rates, while drivers over 50 may get discounts.

Where the car is kept: Rates are higher in urban areas than rural areas because drivers in urban areas have more accidents and auto thefts.

Type of car: Collision and comprehensive rates are higher for luxury, high-performance and sports cars.

Car’s primary use: Rates for cars driven solely for pleasure are lower than rates for cars driven to and from work or used for business.

Credit score: Most companies use the driver’s credit score to decide whether to sell a policy and what to charge, with a better credit score bringing lower rates.

Whether the driver lacked insurance: Companies may charge more if the driver was uninsured in Texas for more than 30 days in the year before the driver applied for coverage.

Discounts that reduce the cost of auto insurance:

Defensive driving courses.

Driver education classes for young drivers.

Students with good grades.

Parent or family whose young driver is away at school without a car.

Two or more cars on one policy.

Policy renewal with good driving record and no at-fault claims.

Concurrent homeowners policy.

Vehicle options such as anti-lock brakes and anti-theft devices.

Car insurance companies assess many factors when setting rates, and your location is chief among them. Based on the number and severity, or cost, of car insurance claims within the area, insurers assign ZIP codes different risk levels. Insurers take into account the frequency of thefts, collisions and vandalism to gauge the likelihood of such incidents happening to drivers within the ZIP code. This is used as the base rate from which insurers calculate your premium. Other pricing factors, such as your driving record, type of car you drive and your age are then added into the calculation. Every car insurance company uses its own base rate and formula, which is why rates can vary so much, and why it’s important to comparison shop.

The least expensive locations for full coverage car insurance rates are:

1. Fremont, Ohio, ZIP code 43420 and Coldwater, Ohio ZIP code 45828 (tie): $804

2. Swannanoa, North Carolina, in ZIP code 28778: $813

Motor city madness: Why are car insurance rates so high in Detroit?

Detroit is notorious for having the most expensive car insurance rates in the nation, due to a variety of factors:

  • Unlimited no-fault laws — The state s unique no-fault insurance laws mandate lifetime medical care for those injured in car accidents, beyond what their health insurance pays. It also provides up to about $5,400 per month in lost wages for up to three years, regardless of who caused the accident.
  • Exorbitant Personal Injury Protection (PIP) claim costs PIP is medical coverage for those injured in car accidents. The average payment per paid PIP claim increased 72 percent in Michigan, from $25,997 to $44,756, from 2005 to 2013, according to the Insurance Research Council. That s significantly higher the 38 percent jump in the average cost per claim, from $5,802 to $8,017, for PIP claims nationwide.
  • Fraud: Critics of the no-fault laws in Michigan say that the system is vulnerable to fraud, as aggressive lawyers contribute to escalating numbers of lawsuits and seek to cash in by shuttling clients into unnecessary and costly medical treatments. This is compounded by hospitals charging higher fees for patients injured in car accidents, compared to standard patient costs. The state also lacks an insurance fraud oversight board or committee.
  • Uninsured motorists: Michigan has one of the highest uninsured driver rates, with an estimated 21 percent of motorists going without insurance, according to the latest Insurance Research Council study. But estimates for the uninsured rate in Detroit are even higher. In a commentary for the Coalition Protecting Auto No-Fault, Melvin Butch Hollowell, former Michigan insurance consumer advocate, put the number at 60 percent.
  • Economic struggles: In Michigan, car insurance companies review credit histories when setting rates, and those with poor credit pay are seen as high-risk by insurers, so they are charged more money. Sixty-six percent of Detroit residents have subprime credit scores (or no scores at all), according to a 2016 analysis by the Urban Institute.
  • High theft rates: There were 382 car-jackings and 8,534 stolen vehicles last year in Detroit, according to a report compiled in January by Detroit Chief of Police James Craig. The city s population last year is pegged at 677,166, giving the Motor City a car-theft rate of 1,316 per 100,000 population. That compares to the FBI s stolen-car rate of 220 per 100,000 inhabitants for the country.

Rural areas generally cheaper than urban areas for car insurance

The cheapest ZIP code for car insurance, Fremont, Ohio, is about 40 miles from Toledo and has a population of about 17,000. Freemont is typical of locations that tend to have low car insurance rates. Drivers in rural areas generally pay less than drivers in urban areas. Rural areas have fewer cars on the road, so costs for insurers are lower because there are fewer accidents, claims and thefts.

Each state s car insurance laws also come into play, as some state minimum liability requirements are much lower than others. Ohio has minimum limits of 25/50/25 for liability, with no requirement for PIP, which helps keep down rates, says Penny Gusner, consumer analyst for CarInsurance.com. Ohio also has a healthy car insurance market. With plenty of regional and national auto insurers, motorists have companies competing for their business and can readily obtain low car insurance premiums by shopping around and comparing rates.

CarInsurance.com commissioned Quadrant Information Services to provide a report of average auto insurance rates for a 2016 Honda Accord for nearly every ZIP code in the United States. We calculated rates using data for up to six large carriers (Allstate, Farmers, GEICO, Nationwide, Progressive and State Farm).

Averages for the default result on the average rates tool are based on full coverage insurance for a married 40-year-old male who commutes 12 miles to work each day, with policy limits of 100/300/100 ($100,000 for injury liability per person, $300,000 per accident and $100,000 for property damage in an accident) and a $500 deductible on collision and comprehensive coverage. The rate includes uninsured motorist coverage. Rankings are based on this default driver profile. ZIP codes in ranking were the highest ZIP code for car insurance in the state, ranked by descending order. Rankings for the cheapest ZIP code were in ascending order from lowest premium.

Averages for customized rates in the tool are based on drivers ages 20, 30, 40, 50, 60 and 70 for the following coverage levels: state minimum liability, liability of 50/100/50 and 100/300/100 with $500 deductible on comprehensive and collision. These hypothetical drivers have clean records and good credit. Average rates are for comparative purposes. Your own rate will depend on your personal factors and vehicle.

VA Loans with Bad Credit

Can I still get a VA Loan with bad credit?

The VA does not have a minimum credit requirement. It simply requires that borrowers represent a satisfactory credit risk. But ultimately VA lenders issue the loans, and in the current economic climate these lenders are looking for solid credit scores. It’s up to them to determine whether or not your credit score meets the benchmark they set. If you find that your credit score falls short, there is still hope. There are a number of ways you can raise your credit score to meet a lender’s benchmark and receive the loan you deserve.

What if my spouse has bad credit?

First, remember that the only acceptable co-borrower on a loan is a spouse or another veteran. It’s important to note that if there is a co-borrower, such as your spouse on the loan, both parties on the mortgage will have to meet both VA and lender requirements.

For example, most married couples pursue a VA home loan together, with each obliged on the mortgage note. There are many different reasons why, but usually a husband or wife may not have enough income to purchase the home of their dreams on his or her own. Adding in that second income of a spouse can sometimes do wonders for your purchasing power and debt-to-income ratio. In the current state of the economy, lenders are often looking for a score of at least 620 from both parties involved.

You can approach this problem from a couple of different directions. The first is to see if you can get preapproved for the desired loan amount without your spouse’s income. Sometimes it can be a simple fix, but not all prospective borrowers will be so lucky. For other co-borrowers, combating the credit issue headfirst may be the best route to take.

We’re here to help raise your credit score

We have experts available who can help you boost your credit, but the process starts with you. Many times, a number of different factors collectively contribute to lower a credit score. Raising your score means fixing these issues. Some issues found in your credit report can be fixed quickly, while others may take some time. Either way, boosting your credit score requires sincere commitment and determination on your part. When you’re ready, your hard work and dedication will pay off.

This is where we come in. We have a dedicated team of professionals who help prospective borrowers who haven’t quite cleared the credit hurdle. Our Department of Secondary Approval is full of experts that work one-on-one with veterans and active military by providing simple, concrete steps to boosting their financial health. It is an absolutely free service that we offer for veterans and active service members alike.

All you have to do is take the first step. Fill out our no-obligation form below to speak with a VA Loan expert.

Guide To FHA Home Loans: How Much Income Do You Need?

Rates for fha loans

How Much Debt Can You Have And Still Buy A Home?

Concerned that your Mastercard bill and your student loan payments mean you can’t buy a house? Maybe you can. If you wonder what is the debt-to-income ratio for FHA home loans, you may be surprised to learn that the answer is: it depends.

The Relationship Between Debts And Income

When you borrow money to buy a home, your lender reviews your credit score. In addition, a lender compares your monthly payments on your debt with your gross monthly income to generate a debt-to-income ratio, or DTI.

Your DTI includes the minimum payment on each debt listed on your credit report, other debts on your loan application, and the monthly payment for your new mortgage.

The maximum DTI allowed for a qualified mortgage is generally 43 percent. However, in some cases loans purchased by Fannie Mae can go as high as 50 percent. The maximum DTI for FHA home loans ranges between 40 and 50 percent for FHA applicants.

FHA loans, insured by the federal government, generally offer more forgiving qualification guidelines. They are a good option for borrowers with less-than-perfect credit or who want to limit their down payment to 3.5 percent.

Lenders weigh three characteristics when they underwrite your loan application: DTI, your loan-to-value, or LTV, and your FICO (credit) score. The chart below shows the average characteristics of approved FHA buyers.

The factors balance each other — if you want a loan with a below-average FICO, you’ll probably need to be better-than-average with your down payment or DTI.

Rates for fha loans

What’s Included In Your DTI

On the debt side, your lender includes your monthly housing payment of principal, interest, property taxes, HOA dues (if applicable), homeowner’s insurance and mortgage insurance.

FHA loans require mortgage insurance. Your debts also include minimum payments on your credit card balances, student loans, installment and other accounts. If your student loan payments cannot be documented, FHA loan guidelines assume a monthly payment of one percent of the balance.

Installment loans that will be paid off within 10 months won’t count as part of your DTI. However, your lender must include the amount of that payment that exceeds 5 percent of your monthly income. So if you earn $4,000 a month, and your auto loan has six payments left at $500 a month, you’ll only be hit with $300 a month.

If you’re on the edge of being able to qualify, paying down an installment debt to less than ten remaining payments can be a good strategy for loan approval.

Income Counted In DTI

Your income includes all of your gross monthly income, including investment income, interest, rents, and anything that is stable and expected to continue at least three years. Part-time or overtime earnings counts, too, if you can document a two-year history of that income.

If you’re self-employed, however, it’s your taxable income, plus some adjustments like depreciation, that lenders use. So if your business brings in $300,000 a year, and you have $250,000 in write-offs and $20,000 in depreciation, the lender credits you with $70,000 income.

  • $300,000 gross – $250,000 write-offs = $50,000
  • Add back $20,000 depreciation (because it’s not a cash expense), and you get $70,000

Calculating The DTI

Suppose you have the following situation:

  • Gross (before tax) wages of $72,000 a year ($6,000 a month)
  • Interest and dividend income of $6,000 a year ($500 a month)
  • Total income: $6,500 a month
  • New monthly house payment: principal and interest: $1,200, property taxes: $250, and homeowners insurance: $50, totalling $1,500 a month
  • Two auto loans: one is $300 a month, and the other is $200, total $500
  • Credit card balances with minimum payments of $175 a month.
  • Total debt payments: $2,175 a month, including the new housing expense
  • DTI = $2,175 / $6,500 = 33.46 percent

Going Bigger: It’s Possible With Compensating Factors

The debt-to-income ratio for FHA home loans can be expanded to a DTI of as much as 50 percent. However, you’ll need “compensating factors,” which offset the risk of your higher debt load. Lenders check many dynamics before approving a mortgage, such as your job history, your credit score and your loan-to-value.

FHA guidelines mention specific factors that can compensate for a high DTI, but borrowers with a credit score below 580 are limited to a DTI of 43 percent regardless of compensating factors.

If your score is 580 or above, you may qualify for a loan with a DTI of 47 percent to 50 percent. However, having one of these additional qualifications may secure you a larger loan than you’d otherwise qualify to get.

  • Cash reserves equal to at least three mortgage payments
  • FICO score of 680 or higher
  • Document future income potential — if you’re a recent college graduate, for instance, in a lucrative field
  • Minimal increase in your housing payment after the purchase – no more than $100 or a five percent increase, whichever is lower
  • Buying an Energy Star home, which reduces your monthly utility costs
  • Significant additional income from bonuses, commissions, part-time work or overtime not reflected in your effective income. This could be because you have less than two years of documentation
  • If you’re moving and have a working “training spouse” who has not yet found a job in your new location, assuming your spouse plans to work
  • Document a pattern of saving, showing regular deposits to a savings or investment account
  • Make a larger down payment, like five percent instead of 3.5 percent
  • Use credit conservatively

Note that FHA allows lenders to use compensating factors to expand DTI. It does not require them to do so.

Why You Should Aim For A Lower DTI

If your lender approves you with a high DTI, that doesn’t necessarily mean you should spend up to your limit. Using half of your gross monthly income for required minimum payments leaves you little cash for emergencies. And your lender has not considered expenses like child care that can really hurt your cash flow.

Be sure to budget for basic items such as food and clothing, insurance and child care and to save for emergencies and long-term goals.

In the past, guidelines recommended that homeowners spend a maximum of 28 percent of their income on their housing costs. Lenders recommended a maximum DTI of 36 percent on all debts. If your monthly income is $10,000, there’s a big difference between spending $3,600 on your mandatory expenses and a 50 percent DTI of $5,000.

What Are Today’s Mortgage Rates?

Today’s mortgage rates are still really affordable, and that helps keep your DTI low. You can get your rate even lower by choosing products like hybrid ARMs, fixed for three, five, seven or ten years, and by shopping aggressively for your loan.

That means getting quotes from several competing lenders and choosing the one that costs you the least.

Jeep Wrangler Insurance

Jeep wrangler insurance rates

The iconic Jeep Wrangler, considered the “real Jeep” because it has stayed true to its off-roading roots, has origins that go back more than seven decades to the US military. Manufactured by Fiat Chrysler, this SUV is not really meant for driving on the highway. Instead, this rugged Jeep, with its four-wheel drive, nimble suspension and ample ground clearance, is known for climbing over rocks and navigating uneven trails.

Although this vehicle is not for every driver, because it’s not the most comfortable ride, it has more than its fair share of enthusiasts. As Good Car Bad Car noted in 2015, the Wrangler was the number 8 best-selling crossover SUV in America. It was also ranked number 16 among compact SUVs by U.S. News World Report. Consumer Reports rated it one of the best off-road vehicles in 2012.

Of course, because of the type of vehicle, and what it’s typically used for, the Jeep Wrangler requires a comprehensive look at the cost of owing one. This includes insurance considerations. You’ll want to look into what factors will determine your insurance rates and find out how to get the best price on your Wrangler insurance.

The Adventurous History of the Jeep Wrangler

The Jeep Wrangler is one of the most affordable off-road capable vehicles. Rugged, military-tested and stylish, it uses some technology that dates all the way back to the 1800s. However, it is simply the best at what it was designed to do, conquer uneven terrain. Ask any Jeep owner and they will tell you it has no equal.

The basic design has remained essentially unchanged for about three-quarters of a century. Refinements, additions and improvements include Chrysler’s power train, excellent gearing choices and a 285 hp V6 3.6 L engine. This gives it superior maneuvering off-road. However, as mentioned previously, it is not for everyone. Known for cramped seating, a noisy ride and poor fuel economy, it is no luxury SUV. It is meant specifically for adventure.

From its inception, the Jeep Wrangler was designed to open up the wilderness to drivers who love to go off-road. The Wrangler evolved from the “Willy” used in World War II. After the war, the Jeep name was trademarked and the vehicle was redesigned for civilian use. These early models were known as Civilian Jeeps, or the CJ series.

After a 40-year production run, and after the company changed hands a few times, the Wrangler was born. This move came primarily out of necessity. The second oil crisis in 1979 found Americans turning to 4x4s that were lighter and more efficient. The older, heavier Jeep line disappeared and a new generation, including the Wrangler, took shape.

The first generation was the YJ, which was sold up to 1995. The TJ model replaced it in 1996. Roll-cage extensions, anti-lock brakes and automatic transmission were added in over the years. The newer Rubicon made its debut in 2003. The Wrangler is currently offered in Sport, Sahara and Rubicon trims. It is the culmination of more than 60 years of innovation.

Jeep Wrangler: Current Popularity

The Wrangler consistently makes best off-road vehicle lists around the nation. A lot of this has to do with its bones. The capable four-wheel drive and Rock-Trac В® transfer case are a good start. And option packages include tow wiring and rock rails.

It has the ability to withstand criticism, too. Although it gets poor ratings and reviews from companies like JD power and Associates, Jeep Wrangler still maintains its popularity. Owners don’t mind a rough ride. They are usually outdoor enthusiasts who view riding down a stretch of beach as superior to being on the beach itself. The Jeep Wrangler makes no apologies for being bad on everything from handling and road noise to gas mileage, which could make Wrangler insurance costs higher, but doesn’t seem to affect its popularity.

Families are even falling in love with this rugged off-road vehicle. Adventure-seeking types need more room to load up their families for a weekend off-roading. The four-door Wrangler suits them well.

Trim Levels of the Wrangler Model

There are three different trim packages to choose from:

Sport. Beginning at just under $23,000 for a two-door and $27,000 for a four-door, it is the perfect starting point for a new Jeep owner. Standard features include a six-speed manual transmission and 3.6 L V6. Tow hooks, 8-speaker audio system and hill start assist are among other notable standard features. You can also upgrade to the Freedom package or Willys Wheeler package for more trim, power and 4×4 options.

Sahara. The midsize trim package for Jeep Wrangler starts at just under $29,000 for a two-door and just under $33,000 for a four-door. For those prices, you do get a few extra standard features like automatic headlamps, body color fender flares, tubular sidesteps, power windows, leather-wrapped steering wheel, aluminum wheels and air conditioning, to name a few. There are no extra trim packages with the Sahara, simply choose a two-door or four-door option.

Rubicon. A two-door option here will cost you just over $32,000 while a four-door will run just under $36,000. It has a few notable features beyond the Sport trim, including a 4:1 transfer case ratio, locking front and rear differentials, automatic sway bar disconnect, nice 37-inch mud terrain tires, rock rails and cold AC. You can also opt to have your tow package wired up for an extra $500 and choose a standard hardtop or a hardtop that matches the body color for an additional $1,000-$2,000.

Cost of Jeep Wrangler Insurance and Ownership

Owning a Jeep Wrangler over a five-year period will cost approximately $33,500. The largest portion of ownership cost is fuel. Wranglers are not known for their gas mileage, but you won’t be worried about that while you are climbing over rocks in the wilderness. Maintenance costs will take a slight uptick due to major items that will most likely need to be replaced.

The good news is insurance costs, which will run $750-$850 over five years. The Jeep Wrangler happens to be one of the cheapest midsize traditional SUVs to insure. That’s partly because it is not very expensive to repair. If something happens to one of your doors, you can simply buy a new one and put it on. Also, the Jeep Wrangler is targeted to a very specific market, so is not prone to theft. These factors are in its favor regarding car insurance.

How Much Does Life Insurance Cost? Get Average Price, Trusted Choice, compare life insurance rates.

Life Insurance Cost

Compare life insurance rates

The first two questions most people ask when they look into life insurance coverage are very often: “How much will it cost?” and “How much do I need?” Life insurance costs can be a challenge to calculate because there are several types of life insurance, including whole life, universal life and term life insurance. The cost of life insurance is unique to each individual and depends on the type of policy you choose, the amount of coverage you want, and factors such as your age and overall health.

Comparing online life insurance rates can be a good way to get an idea of what you might pay in premiums. But to get a customized plan that fully meets your needs and budget, it is a good idea to work directly with an agent. For detailed answers and a review of your situation, contact an independent agent in the Trusted Choice В® network who specializes in life insurance. An local member agent in your area can help you evaluate your options and provide a customized quote.

Factors That Affect Your Life Insurance Costs

  • Age: Overall, life insurance rates increase as you age.
  • Health profile: Do you have any chronic conditions? Do you smoke?
  • Gender: Women live longer, statistically, and typically pay lower life insurance costs.
  • Occupation: Receptionist? Machine operator? Sky diving instructor? Yes, it matters.
  • Exams: “No exam” life insurance quotes are available, but are typically more expensive.

To look at some average life insurance rates, we will review several scenarios. Why? Because the average cost of life insurance for a 30 year old male who smokes is very different from the average cost for a 30 year old female with a clean bill of health. To illustrate the range of costs associated with life insurance, the following section will give some hypothetical scenarios for you to think about before you buy a plan.

The Average Cost of Whole Life Insurance

The following average costs were calculated using the following assumptions:

  1. The individuals are a healthy weight and do not live a hazardous lifestyle.
  2. They want $500,000 worth of life insurance.
  3. They want monthly “level pay” (same payments for the duration of the policy).

The average costs will differ when any of the variables change. For example, a 35 year old female nonsmoker would pay an average of $731.57 if she wanted 1,000,000 worth of whole life insurance or about $188.36 for $250,000 worth of whole life insurance.

The Average Cost of Term Life Insurance

The following average costs were calculated using these assumptions:

  1. The individuals are a healthy weight and do not live a hazardous lifestyle.
  2. They want $500,000 worth of life insurance.
  3. They want to pay monthly for a 20-year term policy.

Compare life insurance rates

Again, the average costs will differ when any of these variables change. For example, a 35 year-old female nonsmoker would pay an average of $61 per month for $1,000,000 worth of life insurance with a 20-year term, and $23.90 per month for $250,000 worth of life insurance with a 20-year term.

Does Life Insurance Cost More in Certain Regions of the U.S.?

There can be some differences in your life insurance costs, depending upon your state and region. Life insurance companies use “mortality tables” to help predict the benefits they are likely to pay in a given year. Why? Because the amount they collect in premiums must be less than what they pay out in benefits, and these actuarial tables ensure that they will not end up in a deficit.

Some factors that may be taken into account to calculate your life insurance costs in your region include:

  • Whether there is a high rate of obesity in your state or region
  • If the area experiences a high rate of deadly natural disasters, such as earthquakes
  • If the region is prone to certain diseases, such as black lung disease typical in miners
  • If the state or region has a high mortality rate due to crime
  • How many policies have been written in that area

Even with these factors taken into consideration, rates do not typically vary significantly from region to region. For example, if you live in an area prone to earthquakes and high crime, your life insurance rates will be affected more by your age and personal health profile than where you choose to live.

How to Lower Your Life Insurance Costs

Because health and lifestyle play a key role in determining your life insurance rates, the key things you can do to lower your payments have to do with improving your health and reducing your risk of chronic conditions like diabetes or cancer. Being a non-smoker is perhaps the most critical choice you can make to reduce your life insurance rates, but there are many more things you can do as well.

  • Maintain a healthy weight to reduce the risk of obesity and related chronic conditions.
    • Get a body mass index (BMI) check done
    • If you have a high BMI, work with a health professional to lose excess weight
  • Maintain your heart health to reduce the risk of hypertension, heart attack and stroke.
    • Get an annual physical
    • Regularly check your blood pressure, cholesterol, and triglyceride levels
    • Work with a health professional to improve your numbers, if needed
    • Reduce stress, improve your diet and increase exercise
  • Manage your blood sugar to reduce the risk of diabetes.
    • Request a blood sugar test
    • Obtain a diet and exercise plan to help manage blood sugar levels

In addition to assessing your overall health, most life insurance companies will also review your risk of death from a high risk sport or work related accident. For this reason, your career choices and the activities you choose to do for fun can also impact your life insurance rates. If you work at a desk job, versus a career as a skydiving instructor, under-water welder or a rodeo clown, you will find that more insurance companies will be willing to insure you at a more affordable rate.

To get more information on life insurance rates, find an independent agent in the Trusted Choice network today. An agent right in your area can help you evaluate your life insurance options and costs based on your unique circumstances.

  1. Accelerated Death Benefit option is a feature that is made available to group life insurance participants. It is not a health, nursing home, or long-term care insurance benefit and is not designed to eliminate the need for those types of insurance coverage. The death benefit is reduced by the amount of the accelerated death benefit paid. There is no administrative fee to accelerate benefits. Receipt of accelerated death benefits may affect eligibility for public assistance and may be taxable. The federal income tax treatment of payments made under this rider depends upon whether the insured is the recipient of the benefits and is considered “terminally ill” or “chronically ill.” You may wish to seek professional tax advice before exercising this option.

What is life insurance?

Life insurance is a type of insurance contract which pays out a lump sum to your dependants should you pass away during the term of the contract. The cost of a policy is determined by a number of factors including your age, health and lifestyle.

Why should I take out life insurance?

Life insurance is a vital part of financial planning for anyone who has dependants.

By ‘dependants’, we mean anyone whose circumstances and material wellbeing would be affected by your death – for example, your partner, your children or anyone else who is financially reliant on you.

Thinking about your death and its inevitable impact on your family’s circumstances is difficult – and many people simply shy away from the topic. But not doing anything could put loved ones at financial risk. That’s why it’s important to confront the issue and take out life insurance.

How does life insurance work?

In most cases, the most effective form of life insurance is called ‘term’ insurance.

This type of policy pays out an agreed amount – the ‘sum insured’ – either as a lump sum or as a regular income, if you die within a specified period – known as the ‘term’.

You choose the size of the pay-out and the length of the term. For example, you may decide to have cover in place until your children are grown up and have left home.

These decisions aren’t always straightforward, which is why we’re here to help. Our dedicated page on how to work out the amount of life insurance cover you need will help you arrive at a sum insured that reflects your family situation.

What’s the average cost of life insurance and what affects the price?

Life insurance policies can start from just £5 a month.

However, the cost will vary depending on factors such as your age, health, occupation, whether you smoke, length of the term and whether you choose add-ons such as critical illness cover.

MoneySuperMarket found that smokers on average pay £18 more a month for life insurance compared to non-smokers*. And adding critical illness cover, which pays out on the diagnosis of one of a list of serious medical conditions, typically increases your payments by almost £28 per month**.

An alternative to straightforward term insurance, where the amount of cover stays the same for a set number of years, is what’s known as ‘decreasing’ term insurance, where the amount of cover reduces over the years (usually in line with a mortgage). This means decreasing term insurance costs less, all other things being equal.

Why it pays to buy life insurance when you are younger

As a rule of thumb, the earlier you take out life insurance, the cheaper your policy will be.

If you’re in your 20s life insurance is unlikely to be a priority. But MoneySuperMarket research shows that taking out a policy in your 20s can be as much as two times cheaper than taking out cover in your 40s***.

The reason for this is simple – insurers consider you less likely to make a claim the younger you are.

The chart below shows the average monthly premium for life insurance depending on the age of the policyholder. But keep in mind each insurer will differ in how much emphasis they give to factors such as your occupation, medical history and lifestyle, so your personal quote is likely to be different.

Whether you’re buying your first home, getting married or thinking about having children, taking out life insurance as a young adult can be a cost-effective way to plan for your financial future.

Are there life insurance policies which come with a gift?

Whole Life Insurance: Whole Life Rates – Quotes: Farmers Insurance, life insurance premium rates. #Life #insurance #premium #rates

Whole Life Insurance

Whole life insurance is a type of permanent life insurance – that can insure you for a lifetime. Premiums are typically level and guaranteed for the life of the policy.

Whole Life Policies

Whole life is one of the most common types of permanent life insurance offered by Farmers New World Life Insurance Company. Whole life insurance combines a level premium with guaranteed cash values which the policy owner may use to meet a variety of financial goals. 3 Whole life insurance policies may also produce excess credits, which may be used to purchase additional paid-up life insurance, potentially increasing the available death benefit. Best of all, whole life policies may offer generally income tax-free 4 access to cash value and death benefits. 5

Farmers EssentialLife Simple Whole Life 6

Farmers EssentialLifeВ® Simple Whole Life is a modernized whole life insurance policy combining the traditional guarantees of whole life with optional riders (available at additional charge), potential to earn excess credits, and a discount 7 for customers with other Farmers insurance policies.

Farmers EssentialLifeВ® Simple Whole Life features guaranteed level premiums, guaranteed cash values and is payable to age 100. Unlike universal life or variable universal life insurance policies, the cash value, premium requirements, and death benefit of Farmers Simple Whole Life policy do not vary based on prevailing interest rates or market performance. It may be an ideal product for customers seeking maximum certainty with permanent, lifelong coverage.

  • Simplified underwriting
  • Discounts available for customers owning other Farmers policies

  • Fast underwriting decision, after completing the application with your local agent

Farmers Graded Death Benefit Whole Life 8

To help prepare for life’s unexpected expenses, the Farmers Graded Benefit Whole Life is a life insurance policy for those who want permanent insurance coverage with guaranteed cash values and guaranteed level premiums with a lower face amount. With a simplified underwriting process, the Farmers Graded Benefit policy could offer otherwise uninsurable individuals an opportunity to obtain permanent whole life coverage.

    • No medical exam, just answer three simple health questions to determine eligibility
    • Guaranteed cash value accumulation
    • Guaranteed death benefit. 9 Limited death benefit during the first two policy years.

    Farmers Premier Whole Life 10

For level insurance coverage throughout the life of the insured, Farmers Premier Whole Life features guaranteed level premiums and guaranteed cash values.

    • A wide range of face amounts for most financial needs
    • Guaranteed cash value accumulation
    • Option to add several riders and benefits available at an additional charge

Contact a Farmers agent to learn more about whole life insurance.

2 Lifetime coverage is guaranteed provided premiums are paid per the terms of the contract.

3 Policy loans and withdrawals will reduce cash surrender value and death benefit. Policy loans are subject to interest charges. If your policy is a modified endowment contract, loans and withdrawals may be subject to taxes and penalties

4 Distributions from a life insurance policy in the character of partial surrenders (withdrawals) up to basis or policy loans will generally be income tax free, provided the policy does not violate Modified Endowment Contract (MEC) guidelines and the policy is not terminated during the lifetime of the insured. MEC guidelines are rules in the Internal Revenue Code which specify maximum premiums that can be paid without triggering adverse tax consequences for withdrawals. A policy termination during the life of the insured can cause the owner a single taxable event for any gains in the policy that were borrowed or withdrawn on or before the termination date.

5 For informational purposes only. In general, partial withdrawals from a permanent life insurance policy in excess of the policy’s basis are taxable, and limited circumstances exist where death proceeds will be taxable. Neither Farmers New World Life Insurance Company, its employees nor its Agents provide legal or tax advice. Always consult your own attorney, accountant or tax adviser as to the legal, financial or tax consequences and advice on any particular transaction.

    6 Policy form 2008-352

7 Customers qualifying for the Farmers Customer Discount may receive up to a 6% discount on the base premium rate per thousand. Contact your agent for more details.

8 ICC11-2011-123 or applicable state variation. Farmers Graded Death Benefit Whole Life Insurance policy. Limited death benefit during the first two policy years.

9 The death benefit is guaranteed according to the terms of the contract and provided that premiums are paid.

10 Policy form 1995-112 or applicable state variation. (Farmers Premier Endowment at age 100 – IN and PA.)

  • How Much Does Life Insurance Cost? Get Average Price, Trusted Choice, term life insurance best rates. #Term #life #insurance #best #rates

    Life Insurance Cost

    Term life insurance best rates

    Term life insurance best rates

Best cars for low insurance rates: Chevrolet Corvette convertible tops list

    Lower insurance rates

Insurance rates could be solidified on the assembly line. Insurance companies factor in safety and damage susceptibility when calculating rates.

Speeding tickets, car accidents, age, and gender are all factored into the insurance rate calculator, and that’s a pretty well-known fact. But what about the type of car on the policy? Trends with car models can also affect insurance rates.

While most insurers don’t make public their specific vehicle ratings or the information on which they base their calculations, it’s not difficult to make your own assessments. The main factors determining the cost of insuring a specific vehicle are damage susceptibility, safety ratings, and likelihood of theft.

The first category – damage susceptibility – applies to the collision portion of insurance premiums. This is chiefly derived from the price of the car and damage susceptibility for the vehicle. This gets complicated as the two somewhat fight against each other- if the insured vehicle is large or expensive, it may do better in a crash yet the damages will be more costly to fix. If the car costs less to repair or replace, it may receive lower premiums depending on how it holds up in a collision.

The Nation Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) did a great study detailing how different cars do in this category. While the study only includes 2008-2010 models, it provides valuable, general insight if you are shopping for a new car. For example, the NHTSA study reveals that small and midsize station wagons do better than all other small and midsize models. Additionally, you can conclude from the report that sports and luxury models generally have much higher average losses. The study largely demonstrates that passenger vans, micro cars, pickups, and SUVs have the lowest average losses while luxury SUVs, large, and midsize cars have the highest losses.

The likelihood of theft affects the comprehensive coverage feature of an insurance policy. Believe it or not, this isn’t simply a question of a car’s value. Some vehicles are stolen much more frequently than others because of their desired parts and weak anti-theft devices. The National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB) offers a useful report identifying the most stolen vehicles in 2009. The top five:

    1. 1994 Honda Accord

    2. 1995 Honda Civic

    3. 1991 Toyota Camry

    4. 1997 Ford F-150 Pickup

    5. 2004 Dodge Ram Pickup

All of that being said, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safely (IIHS) published a comprehensive study that declares the best and worst 07-09 models based on insurance losses. Topping the list were sports models- the Chevrolet Corvette convertible, Mazda MX-5 Miata convertible, Chevrolet Corvette, and the Volkswagen New Beetle convertible. The worst were the Mercedes S class 4dr LWB, Dodge Charger, Pontiac G5, Chevrolet Cobalt, and Kia Spectra. They maintain that “these insurance loss results generally are good predictors of the experience of current versions of the same vehicle models. But when automakers substantially redesign their passenger vehicles, the experience of an earlier model with the same name (but not same design) may not predict the experience of the newer design.”

    California Car Insurance

Titan Insurance provides affordable auto insurance to California drivers, even high-risk drivers, because we know that drivers are more than their driving record. We have a variety of flexible California auto insurance options and policy discounts available, all of which are designed to protect drivers from the unexpected and save them money.

    About California auto insurance

Car insurance is required in California, but not all drivers need to carry all types of insurance coverage. California only requires drivers to carry auto liability insurance. This is important for drivers who want to keep their car insurance in California affordable.

Although liability insurance is generally the only California car insurance requirement, there are plenty of additional coverage options that make sense to consider. Additional coverage provides additional protection, which can protect a driver financially in the event of an accident. Popular coverages include:

    Protection from uninsured drivers

Finding a low cost car insurance policy in California used to be so difficult that the state implemented the Low Cost Automobile Insurance Program (CLCA). This program provides cheap car insurance to California drivers who meet certain income requirements. This is good news for all drivers. Drivers who couldn’t afford car insurance in California now have another low-cost car insurance option while drivers who do carry insurance are better protected from uninsured motorists.

Nonetheless, uninsured/underinsured motorist risk exists, and Titan offers coverage to provide protection when an at-fault party has no or insufficient liability coverage.

    Save money with Titan

Titan is always looking for ways to save our California customers money. One way we do this is by offering a Collision Damage Waiver. When you have purchased Collision coverage and elected this waiver, this waiver pays the collision deductible on the insured motor vehicle when a loss is caused by an uninsured motorist.

Another way to save money with Titan is through our many discount offers.

    Titan’s California vehicle services

At Titan we understand that time is money. That’s why we offer DMV services in some of our California auto insurance offices. Drivers can save time by visiting a local Titan office for routine DMV services such as:

Collision insurance covers your car or truck when it’s in an accident with another vehicle. It also covers you when you hit an object like a tree or a pole that’s not covered under comprehensive insurance.

When you give permission to a friend or relative to borrow your car and they get in a fender bender, your auto policy could provide coverage. Ask an agent how ERIE’s auto policy can help protect you.

    2. Liability coverage may help cover damages if your teen is found at fault in an accident. Minimum liability coverage is actually required by law to keep teens and other drivers safe.
    3. Comprehensive coverage can help if your teen is involved in an accident that doesn’t involve another vehicle, such as theft, vandalism and certain weather-related damages.
    4. Uninsured or underinsured motorist car insurance pays for covered repairs to your teen’s vehicle if it’s damaged in an accident by an underinsured, uninsured or unidentified driver.
    5. Rental car reimbursement covers the cost for a rental car or other transportation, such as bus or subway, if your young driver’s car cannot be driven due to an at-fault accident.

Other ways Nationwide brings you the best car insurance for teens

    • Our Good Student discount makes us one of the best teen insurance choices. Studies show that students with higher grade point averages are typically better drivers and more responsible. If your full-time student teen driver earns a B average or better at school, your student may qualify for a discount.
    • Accident forgiveness is an optional feature that ensures your teen’s insurance rates will not go up after the first at-fault automobile accident. This can be a significant savings for you.
    • Roadside Assistance can help if your teen driver runs out of gas, has a flat tire or is experiencing car trouble. Our 24/7 service ensures that your young driver is never stranded on the side of the road.

    Car Insurance for Teenagers

By Rachel Wait on Tuesday 10 November 2015

    Insurance rates for teens

How do I get cheap teenage car insurance quotes?

Car insurance is expensive for many motorists, but teenage car insurance premiums are even bigger than for the rest of us.

Unfortunately, one in five drivers are involved in a crash during their first year on the road. Now, not everyone learns to drive when they turn 17, but statistics do show that teenagers are more likely to be involved in accidents and make claims on their insurance than older, more experienced drivers.

This is why young drivers tend to pay the most for their cover, as insurers offset the increased risk of a claim with higher premiums.

Until this year, male teenage drivers bore the brunt of this, paying more for cover than their female counterparts, but there have been some big changes in how insurers price their policies which mean those days are over.

    The EU Gender Directive

Statistics have always shown that young male drivers are involved in more accidents than young female drivers.

Although this continues to be the case, new European legislation introduced in 2012 means that insurers can’t discriminate based on whether you’re a man or a woman.

In an ideal world this would mean men’s premiums would drop to the levels previously enjoyed by women, but in reality it means cover for women is going to get more expensive.

The high cost of car insurance for teenagers

We’ve seen the cost of motoring accelerate over the past couple of years thanks to rising fuel prices and insurance costs.

As well as the introduction of the EU Gender Directive, we’ve also seen the introduction of Continuous Insurance Enforcement legislation, which means even vehicles not being used must be insured, unless they are declared as off the road with a Statutory Off Road Notice (SORN).

Anyone found to be keeping a vehicle without insurance and a SORN declaration can receive a fixed penalty notice of £100 or face fines of up to £1,000.

Statistics do show that teenagers are more like to be involved in accidents and make claims on their insurance

MoneySuperMarket research found that two thirds of drivers are changing their driving habits to cope with the rising costs, while five per cent have given up driving altogether.

But there are still people who continue to flout the law and drive without car insurance, and it’s pushing up costs for the rest of us. The Motor Insurers Bureau says that uninsured drivers cost insurers up to £500million a year, adding £30 to average, law-abiding motorist’s premiums

This makes it more important than ever to shop around to get the best possible price on car insurance for teenagers.

Get cheap car insurance for teenagers

As a teenage driver you might be tempted to take some shortcuts on your cover to get a more affordable teenage car insurance quote, but this could prove a false economy if it came to making a claim.

There are some legitimate things you can do to bring down your premiums without cutting corners though, all while maintaining the level of cover you need.

For example, taking an advanced driving course such as Pass Plus will colour you as a more responsible driver in the eyes of some insurers. The high premiums faced by teenage motorists reflect their relative experience on the roads, so any courses which give you more experience should be rewarded with cheaper teenage car insurance cover.

Alternatively, adding an older or more experienced driver to your policy as a named driver can bring down your premiums in some cases.

However, you should never set up a policy with an older friend or relative as the main driver and yourself as a named driver if you’re really the main driver. This is known as fronting, is illegal and could invalidate the policy, or worse, earn you a conviction for driving without insurance.

If you’ve just passed your test and you’re car shopping, bear in mind that the more valuable and powerful your car is, the more it will cost you in insurance – because it would either be more expensive to repair and replace or it would be more likely to be involved in an accident.

Securing your car with additional security features (think steering wheel locks, immobilisers) will reduce the chances of it being stolen, and earn you cheaper teenage car insurance quotes. Similarly, keeping the car parked in a secure location, such as a locked garage, will also work in your favour.

Take advantage of our car insurance money saving tips to find out how to get cheaper car insurance for teenagers. You can also utilise our young driver car insurance guide to find a more specific guide for people in your age bracket.

Cheapest cars to insure in the UK 2018

    Cars with cheap insurance rates

Looking for the cheapest car to insure? Low insurance premiums can save you hundreds, so here are the 10 cheapest cars to insure in the UK

Unfortunately for your unsuspecting wallet, all UK motorists must have car insurance and that means paying your insurance premiums every year. Over recent times, the cost of car insurance has been on the rise, which is why it’s important that everyone, from young drivers to OAPs, hunts around to find the best insurance deal.

Some marques offer customers simple ‘just add fuel’ deals, taking away the stress of sourcing insurance. However, for the most part motorists have a whole cavalcade of separate costs to consider of which insurance is a big one, especially for young drivers.

Insurance premiums are calculated using a couple of different variables. Ask any student motorist trying to insure their first car, the value of the vehicle is just the tip of the iceberg – often the cost of cover for a year will far exceed the value of the vehicle itself.

To make it easier to assess which cars are the cheapest to insure, there is an insurance group rating system. The higher the number, the lighter your wallet will be when the insurance premium is paid, so the closer to one you can get (the scale goes up to 50), the better. As you would expect, every car in this list is rated insurance group 1 or 2.

Even though a list like this is incredibly useful, your money saving measures should not end after you’ve chosen one of the cheapest cars to insure. Make sure you shop around, calling top insurers and using price comparison sites to maximise your savings. Due to the varied living situations we are all in, the cheapest car to insure for one person may not be the cheapest to insure for another – the only dead cert is that, due to these cars being in the lowest insurance groups, they will generate lower quotes than those in much higher groups.

A word of warning, comparison websites are great for getting a large number of quotes, but not all of the big names advertise on them, so by picking up the phone and contacting these larger insurers directly, you may get a better deal.

On top of the list below for cheapest insurance, check out the Auto Express ‘best first cars’ list, which looks at other important aspects of a car that will matter to young drivers, such as safety and economy.

New York Car Insurance – Compare Best Car Insurance Companies, ny car insurance rates.

    #Ny #car #insurance #rates

    New York Car Insurance

Ny car insurance rates Ny car insurance rates Ny car insurance rates Ny car insurance rates

Many different types of car insurance are required to drive in New York. Here we explain minimum New York car insurance requirements, how to buy the best coverage for your needs and how NY insurance laws work. You can also find out what cheap car insurance in New York will cost compared to full coverage, what the average rates are for your area and how to get car insurance discounts.

When shopping for car insurance, use our average car insurance rates tool to compare rates. Enter a ZIP code to see the average premium for your neighborhood. You will also see the highest and lowest rates from the six major carriers surveyed to get an idea of what the most affordable price is in your area. For a more customized rate, choose from among six age groups and three coverage levels.

The average car insurance rate in New York is $1,759 a year. The severity and frequency of claims in your neighborhood, your driving record, the type of car you drive and other variables are used by insurance companies to figure out the cost of your policy. That s why the price for the same coverage can vary significantly among insurance companies and why you should compare rates. For example, you could pay $3,146 more for the same policy in Manhattan ZIP code 10120 if you don t shop around. Here s why: the highest rate among six carriers is $4,305, the lowest is $1,159.

Cheap car insurance in New York

    New York car insurance requirements

If you opt to buy the cheapest car insurance policy possible, buy the least amount of coverage you need to drive, as explained below:

Drivers must have minimum liability coveragelimits of 25/50/10 under New York car insurance laws. This coverage pays for others injuries and damage to other drivers cars when you cause an accident.

Personal injury protection (PIP) is also required. It covers you, your passengers and other authorized drivers of your car who are injured while in your car. PIP also covers you and your family members if you are injured while riding in someone else’s car or if struck by another vehicle while on foot. PIP is sometimes called no-fault insurance because it kicks in regardless of who is at fault. You must have $50,000 in coverage.

Uninsured motorist bodily injury covers medical expenses for you and your passengers if injured when hit by a driver with no insurance. You must have 25/50 coverage. This means your insurer pays up to $25,000 per person and $50,000 in total if there are two or more people injured.

It does cost more to buy more protection, but as you ll see in the chart below, additional coverage is typically affordable. Increasing your insurance from the state minimum to full coverage with a $500 deductible costs, on average, $947 more, or $79 a month. For just $67 a year you can raise your liability limits.

    $500 Comp/Collision deductible

*The table shows the average annual rate of nearly every ZIP code in Massachusetts from up to six major insurance companies. Rates are for a male driver, age 40, with a clean record and good credit for a 2016 Honda Accord. Data was provided for CarInsurance.com by Quadrant Information Services.

    Recommended car insurance coverage

Drivers who buy the cheapest car insurance in New York may be taking a big gamble. If you get into an accident, your assets are at risk if you have basic car insurance. Even a minor incident can cost much more than what your minimal insurance will pay out. For instance, say you have New York s minimum of $25,000 in bodily injury coverage and $10,000 in property damage. Then you cause a crash that totals the other driver s car, valued at $25,000. It also results in $45,000 of medical expenses for his injuries. You re responsible for damages not covered by insurance. That means you have to pay $20,000 out-of-pocket for medical bills and $15,000 for the damaged car a total of $35,000.

    Liability

We recommend you buy more insurance than is required to legally drive a car in your state, especially if you have savings and assets. The more money you have, the more likely you are to be sued following a car accident should your insurance be insufficient to cover all the expenses. If your net worth is:

    • less than $50,000, choose at least 50/100/50
    • between $50,000 and $100,000, choose at least 100/300/100
    • more than $100,000, choose at least 250/500/100

If you’re leasing or financing your car, you must get coverage of 100/300/100 or higher.

    Collision and comprehensive

These are optional coverages and fairly affordable to add to a policy. Collision coverage pays for damage to your car after an accident that you cause. Comprehensive insurance pays to replace stolen cars and for damages from vandalism, flooding, hail, fire and animal strikes. New York drivers pay an average of $355 a year for collision and $156 for comprehensive. If your car is:

    • less than 10 years old, you should strongly consider buying collision and comprehensive.
    • more than 10 years old, only buy collision and comprehensive if your car is worth $3,000 or more, if you couldn t afford to replace your car if it s wrecked, or if you just want more protection on your policy.

    Uninsured/underinsured motorist

These coverages are required in New York and should match the liability limits you choose. Uninsured motorist coverage and underinsured motorist coverage pays for damages if you re hit by a driver with no insurance or a driver with coverage that s insufficient to pay for your repairs and medical expenses.

    Medical coverage (MedPay)

Medical payments coverage can help pay for the medical or funeral expenses of covered drivers and passengers after an accident, regardless of fault, up to $25,000. MedPay is optional in New York and not a must-have coverage, because your PIP protection takes care of the same expenses as MedPay. However, one benefit of MedPay is that there is no deductible and it can help defray health insurance costs. MedPay does the following:

    • Covers you and your passengers medical expenses
    • Pays for expenses after health insurance limits are exceeded
    • Offers additional protection to insured drivers who are hit by a car while walking or biking

    If you and your passengers:

    • Don t have health insurance, or have a plan that doesn t cover car accidents or has low limits, we recommend that you add medical coverage of at least $5,000 to your car insurance policy.
    • Do have health insurance, it s still a good idea to have medical coverage if you want the best protection in your policy, as it can pay out after your health benefits are maxed out.

    Gap insurance

If you don t own your car outright and have an accident, gap insurance pays the difference between the cash value of your car and the current outstanding balance on your loan or lease.

    • If you re financing your car, your car is less than one year old and you ve put less than 20 percent down on it, you should buy gap insurance. If not, you don t need gap insurance.
    • If you re leasing your car, it s a good idea to buy gap insurance if you aren t already required to in your lease agreement.
    • If you own your car outright, you don t need gap insurance.
