    Pricing the Model A Ford – Determining the V alue and Assigning a Grade – Don Crum

    (The following article is based on a presentation made to the Northern Ohio Model A Club by Don Crum. Don is currently a certified Model A appraiser for several automobile insurance carriers and is also an experienced contest judge. He has bought, sold, and restored a large number of Model A’s and is uniquely qualified to discuss the subject of pricing.)

    Tools of the Trade

    Pricing a Model A begins with a thorough inspection of the car. The following tools are considered indispensable:

    • Camera with flash – Use the camera to document the car, both inside and out. The photos can be checked later to see if the car you inspected is the same car you’re buying. You can also use the photos to compare against the next car you inspect.
    • Pencil and paper – Note the colors, accessories, options, and the final grade given to the car. Also list the engine serial number because it will be required for insurance purposes.
    • Good light source and mechanic’s creeper – Use these tools for checking shocks, linkages, exhaust system, and the complete underside of the car.
    • Model A engine crank – Use the crank to see if the engine is free to turn. If it isn’t, the car may not be worth buying; engine work can be expensive.

    Areas to Inspect

    There are four major inspection areas which determine the overall condition of a Model A:

    • Exterior – Stand a little distance away and walk around the car. Check for dents and body lean. Try to assess the overall body condition including the sheet metal, roof, and paint.
    • Interior – Check the upholstery, wood graining, window glass, shades, and hardware. Spend plenty of time in this area; new upholstery alone can represent a $3,000 investment.
    • Drive train – The drive train includes everything underneath the car including drive shaft, transmission, differential, shocks, and linkages. Here’s where you need to use your creeper and light source. As part of this inspection, don’t forget to check the wheels, tires, and hubcaps. Also take a good look at the bumpers, brackets, and exhaust system.
    • Engine area – Check the cooling system, electrical wiring, generator, starter, steering column, and carburetor. Try to determine the general condition of the engine. Has it been rebuilt? Check the engine serial number. Is it correct for the model year? Use the crank to see if the engine is free to turn.

    Assigning a Grade

    After a complete inspection, the Model A can be graded from 1 to 6 based on the following criteria:

    • Grade 1 – This car should be in excellent condition. It will have been completely restored with new paint and upholstery or will be a mint condition original which has not been repainted. A Grade 1 car could easily win a 1st place trophy at a National Meet and would generally fall in the 375 to 399 judging point range. The car has probably not been driven on long trips due to the possibility of paint chipping and stone damage.
    • Grade 2 – This car is similar to a Grade 1 but will show some wear, such as stone chips or wrinkled upholstery.
    • Grade 3 – This is basically a good solid car. It may require one, but not all, of the following – new upholstery, new engine, or possibly a paint job. If you can do any of these tasks yourself, this could be the car to buy. Cars in this grade are considered good drivers.
    • Grade 4 – This car should be in fair condition but might need restoration in two of the areas mentioned in Grade 3. Again, if you can perform the needed work yourself, this might be a worthwhile car to acquire.
    • Grade 5 – This car will need a complete restoration. The amount of work required is reflected in the much lower value listed in the price guide shown in the table below. But be aware, a complete restoration can take 1200 hours or more to accomplish!
    • Grade 6 – This car needs a lot of help . It may be a complete basket case, most likely disassembled by someone who lost interest in the project. This grade is not completely without merit – the hard, dirty job of taking the car apart has already been done by someone else! Check the parts carefully. If something seems to be missing, take a good look around. The parts may have been packed away in a box or drawer.

    The numerical grade assigned to the car can be translated into an approximate dollar value by checking a price guide such as Car Prices published by Krause Publications, Inc. 700 E. State Street, Iola, WI 54990, 715/445-2214. Cost of this guide is $20.00. Since car prices fluctuate, always check the latest available issue.

    The typical values listed in the table below represent average prices compiled during the previous year. Price information is generally derived from auctions and other known sales. Obviously, a given car may be valued higher or lower depending on equipment, accessories, and any special factory options. (Editor’s note: Prices shown in the table were valid when this article was first published in 1991. Current prices will differ, but the table is still useful for comparison purposes).

    No discussion of Model A prices would be complete without mentioning the mint condition MARC of Excellence show cars. A car in this category will receive at least 400 judging points at a National Meet and in Don’s opinion can be worth an extra $100 for each point over 400. Cars receiving over 450 points frequently command an additional $5,000 or more on top of this amount. The sky is truly the limit, with a few top cars bringing as much as $50,000! (JCY)

    Using Used Truck Pricing To Your Advantage

    When negotiating used truck prices. the first thing you should keep in mind is that no price is absolute. No one can tell you exactly how much you should pay for a specific second-hand truck. Before buying a used pickup truck, you need a used truck pricing guide to ensure you don t pay too much for the vehicle. There s no doubt that a pickup truck is useful, but they ve also gone from being purely functional to being the vehicle of choice for many people. These used pickup buying tips will help as a used truck pricing guide.

    Kelley Blue Book

    The Kelley Blue Book is a very useful guide for finding the proper price of a vehicle. It s used by dealers to assess how much to offer for a trade-in, but you can also use it as a used truck pricing guide. If the owner is asking for a price far above the Blue Book price, he s either overcharging or the vehicle must be exceptional. If the price is much lower than Blue Book, you should suspect that there are problems with the vehicle. However, don t discount the vehicle as you may still be getting a bargain!

    Know Your Trucks

    If you re buying a pickup truck, a used truck pricing guide will only go so far. You need to know you re buying the right truck for your needs, so do your research and see what payloads different makes and models can carry.

    Knowing a specific truck s trade-in price can give you an idea of how much it s worth. If you re buying from a used car dealer, the dealer has probably put some work into the truck to raise its asking price. Unfortunately, you have no way of knowing how much this additional work is actually worth. A good way to estimate this is by adding $1,000 to the truck s trade-in price. This will generally allow for reconditioning, transportation and other general costs. If the dealer tells you that they put in a lot of money to get the truck up to its current condition, you can ask for written records on all the changes they made. Anything from new tires to a major engine overhaul should be properly recorded.

    Service History

    If it s available, examine the service history of the used pickup truck. This will let you know what repairs have been performed and when the work was undertaken. If major work has been done and the truck has high mileage, be wary since there s always a chance it will need more work in the future.

    Have a Mechanic Inspect the Truck

    As most used trucks are sold as-is, it s important that you have a mechanic inspect the truck before your purchase. This is normally done to ensure that the truck is in as good condition as all the documentation says it is. However, any mechanical issues, no matter how small, can also be used during the negotiation process to bring the seller s price down further.

    Test Drive

    You should test drive every vehicle you re considering buying. Since a truck is designed to carry weight, you should ideally test both with and without a payload in the bed. Before driving, inspect the vehicle, as there are things to look for in used pickups. Look for excessive tire wear, especially on the edges, which will indicate the truck needs an alignment. Check whether the lights all work and look under the vehicle to see if there is any fluid on the ground, as this will indicate an oil leak. As the truck idles, look at the exhaust for dark smoke, because this is an indicator that the truck is burning oil.

    Inspect the bodywork, especially the truck bed, which can rust easily without a bed liner. Check that the tailgate opens and closes smoothly and make sure there isn t any rust in the joints.

    As you drive, make sure the truck continues in a straight line as you brake. Also, take your hands off the wheel briefly as you drive to see if the truck keeps going straight. If it doesn t, it will need an alignment or other mechanical work. Turn the vehicle at full torque both left and right. If you hear a high-pitched squealing noise, the vehicle might need a new CV boot joint.

    Haggle

    Before going to a specific dealer, look around and see how much other dealers are selling the same model for. Knowing this information can give you a better idea of how much you can bargain for. It can also be used to force the dealer down to a lower price. If you find ads for the same or similar trucks from other dealers with lower prices, print them out and bring them to the bargaining table. Better yet, you can go online and find even better deals, as Internet prices are typically lower than those of local dealerships.

    When you find a used pickup truck you want to buy, you can use the used truck buying guide as a guideline. Start by offering the lowest price you d be willing to pay. If the owner or dealer accepts, that s fine. If not, you can raise your offer but based on the Blue Book guide, don t go too high. Set yourself an upper limit and stick to it.

    Kelley Blue Book

    To understand used truck pricing, you need to be familiar with the Kelley Blue Book. This is the authority on new and used pickup pricing. It calculates a price for vehicles of all years, dependent on their condition and options.

    Although dealers consult the Blue Book to establish the value of vehicles they re buying and selling, that doesn t mean they adhere faithfully to it. It s used more as a guide than anything else, since those who are selling will always want to make as much as possible from their vehicle. That said, knowing the Blue Book price is a vital place to start on used truck pricing. Take the time to do your research in the book because it is worth every minute in establishing a pricing baseline.

    Demand

    It s a basic maxim of economics that the greater the demand for an item, the higher the price that can be charged. That applies to pre-owned truck pricing, too. A very popular model will cost more when it s used simply because people want to own it. Similarly, a used truck of a make or model that s been unpopular for some reason won t sell for as much because fewer people want to have one sitting outside their house.

    When looking at used truck pricing or used SUV pricing and trying to make sense of it, popularity is a factor that you have to consider. If you re looking at this year s hot, must-have model, the prices are going to be high.

    Condition

    Used truck pricing is also going to depend on the condition of the truck. Given two models of the same age, one which has low mileage, has been regularly serviced and looks like it just rolled off the dealer s lot is going to fetch a much higher price than one covered in dents and dirt and which has mechanical problems. This is entirely normal and it s why people take plenty of time to clean up their vehicles, inside and out, before offering them for sale. People will pay less for something that doesn t look good and which will require work. Where someone has taken care of their truck, it becomes worthwhile at sale time and can pay off in more profitable ways than many people imagine.

    Sales

    What is AWS Billing and Cost Management?

    AWS Billing and Cost Management is the service that you use to pay your AWS bill, monitor your usage, and budget your costs.

    The service automatically charges the credit card you provided when you signed up for a new account with AWS. Charges appear on your credit card bill monthly. You can view or update credit card information, and designate a different credit card for AWS to charge, on the Payment Methods page in the Billing and Cost Management console.     If you chose India as your contact address country when you signed up, you might be an Amazon Internet Services Pvt. Ltd (AISPL) customer, and you might need to approve the charges before your credit card can be billed. For more information about paying as an AISPL customer, see Pay your AISPL bill.

    Features in Billing and Cost Management

    The Billing and Cost Management service provides features that you can use to estimate and plan your AWS costs, receive alerts if your costs exceed a threshold that you set, assess your biggest investments in AWS resources, and, if you work with multiple AWS accounts, simplify your accounting.

    Analyzing Costs with Graphs

    The AWS Billing and Cost Management console includes the no-cost Cost Explorer tool for viewing your AWS cost data as a graph. With Cost Explorer, you can filter graphs by API operation, Availability Zone, AWS service, custom cost allocation tag, Amazon EC2 instance type, purchase option, region, usage type, usage type group, or, if you use consolidated billing, by member account. You can also see a forecast of future costs based on your historical cost data. For more information, see Customizing Your Cost Explorer Cost Analysis.

    You can use budgets to track your AWS costs. Budgets use the cost visualization provided by Cost Explorer to show you the status of your budgets and to provide forecasts of your estimated costs.     AWS Marketplace and DevPay invoices are not eligible for this service and are processed in USD.

    This service is available only if your default payment method is Visa or MasterCard.

    AWS Cost and Usage reports

    You can choose to have AWS publish billing reports to an Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3) bucket that you own. You can receive reports that break down your costs by the hour or month, by product or product resource, or by tags that you define yourself. AWS updates the report in your bucket once a day in comma-separated value (CSV) format. You can view the reports using spreadsheet software such as Microsoft Excel or Apache OpenOffice Calc, or access them from an application using the Amazon S3 API.

    If you use the consolidated billing feature in AWS Organizations, the Amazon S3 bucket that you designate to receive the billing reports must be owned by the master account in your organization. You can’t receive billing reports in a bucket that is owned by a member account. If you use consolidated billing, you can also have your costs broken down by member account.     AWS Organizations (Consolidated Billing)

    The AWS platform is designed to accommodate every size of company, from small startups to enterprises. If your company is large, or likely to grow, you might want to set up multiple AWS accounts that reflect your company’s structure. For example, you can have one account for the entire company and accounts for each employee, you can have an account for the entire company with IAM users for each employee, or you can have an account for the entire company, accounts for each department or team within the company, and accounts for each employee.

    If you set up multiple AWS accounts, you can choose to have each account receive a bill (that is, function as a payer account), or you can use the consolidated billing feature of AWS Organizations to consolidate multiple member accounts under your master account. Consolidated billing is designed to simplify your accounting and let you take advantage of lower-priced usage tiers for many services.     BREAKING DOWN ‘Black Scholes Model’

    The Black Scholes Model is one of the most important concepts in modern financial theory. It was developed in 1973 by Fisher Black, Robert Merton and Myron Scholes and is still widely used in 2016. It is regarded as one of the best ways of determining fair prices of options. The Black Scholes model requires five input variables: the strike price of an option, the current stock price, the time to expiration, the risk-free rate and the volatility. Additionally, the model assumes stock prices follow a lognormal distribution because asset prices cannot be negative. Moreover, the model assumes there are no transaction costs or taxes; the risk-free interest rate is constant for all maturities; short selling of securities with use of proceeds is permitted; and there are no riskless arbitrage opportunities.

    Black-Scholes Formula

    The Black Scholes call option formula is calculated by multiplying the stock price by the cumulative standard normal probability distribution function. Thereafter, the net present value (NPV) of the strike price multiplied by the cumulative standard normal distribution is subtracted from the resulting value of the previous calculation. In mathematical notation, C = S*N(d1) – Ke^(-r*T)*N(d2). Conversely, the value of a put option could be calculated using the formula: P = Ke^(-r*T)*N(-d2) – S*N(-d1). In both formulas, S is the stock price, K is the strike price, r is the risk-free interest rate and T is the time to maturity. The formula for d1 is: (ln(S/K) + (r + (annualized volatility)^2 / 2)*T) / (annualized volatility * (T^(0.5))). The formula for d2 is: d1 – (annualized volatility)*(T^(0.5)).

    Limitations

    As stated previously, the Black Scholes model is only used to price European options and does not take into account that American options could be exercised before the expiration date. Moreover, the model assumes dividends and risk-free rates are constant, but this may not be true in reality. The model also assumes volatility remains constant over the option’s life, which is not the case because volatility fluctuates with the level of supply and demand.

Every make and model are fairly unique and may have added features like reverse molding, raised pin-stripping, etc. We do, however, offer some popular regular sizes that we have found work for most small (10″ h x 18″ w), medium (11″ h x 20″ w) and large (12″ h x 24″ w) vehicles. And although you may order these basic sizes, don’t forget that all our vehicle magnetic signs are custom made and can be made to any size you need not exceeding 24″ in height.

    WHAT IS THE ADVANTAGE OF ROUNDED CORNERS?

    We have been in the magnetic sign business for 25+ years and have found that when it comes to the corner finishing, of these particular vehicle signs, that rounding the corners adds to their longevity. Square corners will eventually start to dog-ear after a few years of peeling them off of your vehicle. But, through the years, we found that slightly rounding the corners eliminates the dog-ear effect and highly recommend that option, to our customers, too extend the life of their magnetic sign. And as for aesthetics?

    WHAT IS THE RISK RATIO OF HAVING A MAGNETIC SIGN FLY OFF MY VEHICLE?

    If your magnetic sign is maintained and installed properly, then the risk factor of losing a magnetic sign is non-existent. However, if the magnetic sign is placed over any obstacles that will allow air underneath it’s surface, then you do run the risk of losing a magnetic while on the road. First and foremost we recommend measuring your available “FLAT” surface area of your vehicle, before ordering your magnetic signs, to assure a perfect fit. Ill-fitted magnetic signs, that do not sit flush on the vehicle, can and will fly off. Maintenance is also an important key to not losing magnetic signs. Always make sure to gently clean the application area of your vehicle and the magnetic receptive side of the sign before installation, to remove any dust or debris that may have accumulated, which can cause adhesion problems and result in the loss of a magnetic sign.

    HOW LONG WILL MY CUSTOM VEHICLE MAGNETIC SIGNS LAST?

    2015 is a year of transition for Scion. the youth-oriented branch of Toyota. They say goodbye to the xD and prepare for the arrival of their first sedan, the iM, which will debut next year.

    Scion makes one of the smallest cars around, the diminutive iQ which competes with other microcars like the smart forTwo. The iQ is a carryover model for 2015 (no changes) and crams in the standard features despite its small size, including HD Radio, Bluetooth connectivity, and a USB/iPod port.

    The boxy xB returns, offering seating for five and plenty of cargo space. A rearview camera is now standard starting in 2015.

    Once the sportiest car offered by Scion, the tC coupe was redesigned two years ago with sharper angles and a more aggressive overall slant, to go along with a peppy 180-hp four-cylinder. For 2015, models with the six-speed automatic add paddle shifters for a more engaging driving experiencing.

    Pricing the Model A Ford – Determining the V alue and Assigning a Grade – Don Crum

    (The following article is based on a presentation made to the Northern Ohio Model A Club by Don Crum. Don is currently a certified Model A appraiser for several automobile insurance carriers and is also an experienced contest judge. He has bought, sold, and restored a large number of Model A’s and is uniquely qualified to discuss the subject of pricing.)

    Tools of the Trade

    Pricing a Model A begins with a thorough inspection of the car. The following tools are considered indispensable:

    • Camera with flash – Use the camera to document the car, both inside and out. The photos can be checked later to see if the car you inspected is the same car you’re buying. You can also use the photos to compare against the next car you inspect.
    • Pencil and paper – Note the colors, accessories, options, and the final grade given to the car. Also list the engine serial number because it will be required for insurance purposes.
    • Good light source and mechanic’s creeper – Use these tools for checking shocks, linkages, exhaust system, and the complete underside of the car.
    • Model A engine crank – Use the crank to see if the engine is free to turn. If it isn’t, the car may not be worth buying; engine work can be expensive.

    Areas to Inspect

    There are four major inspection areas which determine the overall condition of a Model A:

    • Exterior – Stand a little distance away and walk around the car. Check for dents and body lean. Try to assess the overall body condition including the sheet metal, roof, and paint.
    • Interior – Check the upholstery, wood graining, window glass, shades, and hardware. Spend plenty of time in this area; new upholstery alone can represent a $3,000 investment.
    • Drive train – The drive train includes everything underneath the car including drive shaft, transmission, differential, shocks, and linkages. Here’s where you need to use your creeper and light source. As part of this inspection, don’t forget to check the wheels, tires, and hubcaps. Also take a good look at the bumpers, brackets, and exhaust system.
    • Engine area – Check the cooling system, electrical wiring, generator, starter, steering column, and carburetor. Try to determine the general condition of the engine. Has it been rebuilt? Check the engine serial number. Is it correct for the model year? Use the crank to see if the engine is free to turn.

    Assigning a Grade

    After a complete inspection, the Model A can be graded from 1 to 6 based on the following criteria:

    • Grade 1 – This car should be in excellent condition. It will have been completely restored with new paint and upholstery or will be a mint condition original which has not been repainted. A Grade 1 car could easily win a 1st place trophy at a National Meet and would generally fall in the 375 to 399 judging point range. The car has probably not been driven on long trips due to the possibility of paint chipping and stone damage.
    • Grade 2 – This car is similar to a Grade 1 but will show some wear, such as stone chips or wrinkled upholstery.
    • Grade 3 – This is basically a good solid car. It may require one, but not all, of the following – new upholstery, new engine, or possibly a paint job. If you can do any of these tasks yourself, this could be the car to buy. Cars in this grade are considered good drivers.
    • Grade 4 – This car should be in fair condition but might need restoration in two of the areas mentioned in Grade 3. Again, if you can perform the needed work yourself, this might be a worthwhile car to acquire.
    • Grade 5 – This car will need a complete restoration. The amount of work required is reflected in the much lower value listed in the price guide shown in the table below. But be aware, a complete restoration can take 1200 hours or more to accomplish!
    • Grade 6 – This car needs a lot of help . It may be a complete basket case, most likely disassembled by someone who lost interest in the project. This grade is not completely without merit – the hard, dirty job of taking the car apart has already been done by someone else! Check the parts carefully. If something seems to be missing, take a good look around. The parts may have been packed away in a box or drawer.

    The numerical grade assigned to the car can be translated into an approximate dollar value by checking a price guide such as Car Prices published by Krause Publications, Inc. 700 E. State Street, Iola, WI 54990, 715/445-2214. Cost of this guide is $20.00. Since car prices fluctuate, always check the latest available issue.

    The typical values listed in the table below represent average prices compiled during the previous year. Price information is generally derived from auctions and other known sales. Obviously, a given car may be valued higher or lower depending on equipment, accessories, and any special factory options. (Editor’s note: Prices shown in the table were valid when this article was first published in 1991. Current prices will differ, but the table is still useful for comparison purposes).

    No discussion of Model A prices would be complete without mentioning the mint condition MARC of Excellence show cars. A car in this category will receive at least 400 judging points at a National Meet and in Don’s opinion can be worth an extra $100 for each point over 400. Cars receiving over 450 points frequently command an additional $5,000 or more on top of this amount. The sky is truly the limit, with a few top cars bringing as much as $50,000! (JCY)

    When you’ve decided it’s time to sell your car, the first thing to determine is a realistic price.

    There are many factors that affect a sales price, including the car’s condition and mileage, as well as what the market will bear in your area. Fortunately, arriving at a fair price is easy thanks to the tools available on the Internet and some basic knowledge you have of your vehicle.

    Step 1: Gather Information About Your Car

    The first step is to gather all the necessary information about your car that will affect its value. Take a notepad and jot down the year, make, model and trim level. Next, note any optional features your car has, such as a leather seating package or rear seat entertainment system.

    It’s a good idea to consult your original sales paperwork or window sticker to be sure you haven’t missed anything. Optional features can often add a substantial amount to your car’s resale value, so be sure to include all of them when you make your calculation.

    If you’ve added aftermarket items, such as an upgraded stereo system or different wheels, you can expect to get a little more for the car, but in most cases you won’t be able to recoup your entire investment.

    If there are a lot of similar vehicles for sale in your area, you may want to use your notepad to make a list of the ads, including the prices, mileage and major differences between the vehicles, such as engine, trim level and options.

    Step 3: Determine Your Price

    Now that you’ve gathered information about your car and prices for similar cars, look at the range of prices you’ve found in your research. Choosing a number within that range is only logical, but how do you decide whether to go low, high or in the middle? If you don’t own your car outright, be sure to call your lender to determine the cost to pay off your car. The sale price you choose should take that into consideration.

    A good idea is to start in the middle of the range and add or deduct from that point. You might add to the price if your car is in top-notch condition or has very low miles, such as an average of 7,000 miles per year or fewer. (Just remember that the range you’ve arrived at has taken condition and mileage into consideration already.)

    Optional features, a car that is still under warranty, an extended warranty and proof that you’ve completed regular maintenance are all things that will help you get the higher price in the range. As a result, you’ll want to factor them in when determining your price—and also note them in your ad.

    You might also boost the price if you’ve just completed a major scheduled maintenance, such as a 60,000-mile service, or if you’ve just purchased a new set of tires or installed new brakes, though keep in mind that since these are considered part of regular wear and tear, you’ll only be able to justify adding to them to the price if they are nearly new.

    Similarly, you might price your car lower than average if it needs a major scheduled service, new tires or brakes and you want the buyer to take care of that. You might also drop the price if you need to make a quick sale. Finally, it’s usually a wise idea to leave some room in your price for negotiating with prospective buyers .

    Truly there is “no” standard size. Every make and model are fairly unique and may have added features like reverse molding, raised pin-stripping, etc. We do, however, offer some popular regular sizes that we have found work for most small (10″ h x 18″ w), medium (11″ h x 20″ w) and large (12″ h x 24″ w) vehicles. And although you may order these basic sizes, don’t forget that all our vehicle magnetic signs are custom made and can be made to any size you need not exceeding 24″ in height.

    WHAT IS THE ADVANTAGE OF ROUNDED CORNERS?

    We have been in the magnetic sign business for 25+ years and have found that when it comes to the corner finishing, of these particular vehicle signs, that rounding the corners adds to their longevity. Square corners will eventually start to dog-ear after a few years of peeling them off of your vehicle. But, through the years, we found that slightly rounding the corners eliminates the dog-ear effect and highly recommend that option, to our customers, too extend the life of their magnetic sign. And as for aesthetics?

    WHAT IS THE RISK RATIO OF HAVING A MAGNETIC SIGN FLY OFF MY VEHICLE?

    If your magnetic sign is maintained and installed properly, then the risk factor of losing a magnetic sign is non-existent. However, if the magnetic sign is placed over any obstacles that will allow air underneath it’s surface, then you do run the risk of losing a magnetic while on the road. First and foremost we recommend measuring your available “FLAT” surface area of your vehicle, before ordering your magnetic signs, to assure a perfect fit. Ill-fitted magnetic signs, that do not sit flush on the vehicle, can and will fly off. Maintenance is also an important key to not losing magnetic signs. Always make sure to gently clean the application area of your vehicle and the magnetic receptive side of the sign before installation, to remove any dust or debris that may have accumulated, which can cause adhesion problems and result in the loss of a magnetic sign.

    HOW LONG WILL MY CUSTOM VEHICLE MAGNETIC SIGNS LAST?

    Our magnetic signs have a protective laminate that helps to shield the print from the elements as well as regular wear and tear. When our magnetic signs are properly maintained and installed they have a typical longevity of 3 – 5 years, and possibly more.

    How Does a ChiltonDIY Subscription Work?

    1. A user will select a vehicle using our vehicle selection guide. This allows you to choose from a complete library of do it yourself automotive guides.
    2. A user will choose either the 30-Day or 1-year pricing plan and complete the registration and checkout process for their new automotive DIY guide.

    Guide to NASCAR Diecast Values and Pricing

    So how much are those diecast cars really worth? Maybe you are an avid collector and you want to know how much your collection has appreciated in value. Maybe you have a few diecast cars that you are wanting to sell and you need to know the price you should ask for. Or, maybe you are wanting to buy a diecast car and want to know if you are getting a good deal. Well the answer is not as simple as you are hoping for. NASCAR diecast cars are collectible items. Like any collectible they only have value to someone who wants them. A $100 dollar bill is worth the same amount to everyone but an Elite Dale Earnhardt Goodwrench Crash Car would have little or no value to someone who was not a fan or collector. But to someone else it could be near priceless.

    There are, however, some basic factors which affect how much a diecast car is worth on average. First is the manufacturer. All manufacturers are not created equal. The diecast cars you can pick up at your local mega-mart have significantly lower quality and value than those produced by top of the line companies. For a closer look at the companies check out our Diecast 101 page. Availability also affects value. If the market is flooded with a certain type of diecast car the value will be much lower. Also, all NASCAR diecast cars are produced in limited quantities. Once these are all bought and in individual collections they can be very difficult to get. For this reason diecast cars tend to appreciate over time, as they become less readily available in the market. Popular drivers and car sponsors are more highly sought after and can be more difficult to find. NASCAR diecast cars can also gain temporary popularity, causing a market shortage, due to some specific driver activity, like accident, retirement, sponsor change or championship win. These types of things can artifcially elevate a cars price in the short term. Other factors like dealer bias or geographic area of the store also can influence the price of a diecast car. If your city only has one NASCAR diecast store, chances are the prices will be a little higher. Finally diecast car values fluctuate. Over time they generally increase but month to month they prices will rise and fall.

    Now that you know all the factors that go into the value, how do you estimate the value of a particular diecast car. First, you can pick up a copy of Becketts Racing Collectables Diecast Price Guide. It lists just about every NASCAR diecast car produced. I prefer Diecast Digest. It’s listings are more complete and consisitent. (* see below) A couple of notes; the price guides can be a little difficult to read through so take your time and study them. Also, the magazines do not list equal values for specific diecast cars. One magazine may be marginally or even substanially higher or lower than the other. The second way to find the value of a diecast car is to do some Internet research. See if you can find your car for sale on other diecast sites. This will be very easy or nearly impossible depending on how many of those cars are in circulation. You should not use Internet auction sites for the purpose of estimating diecast value. The prices of diecast cars on these sites is usually way off from book value. Also, don’t be tempted to assign a value to your car because you found the price of a similar but not exact diecast. Diecast cars can have the same driver and sponsor but produced in a different year and have radically different values.

    So remember diecast cars are not cash they are collectibles. Their “price” is affected by many factors but their “value” is what they are worth to an individual collector. Collecting NASCAR diecast cars should be fun. Don’t get caught up in the price, look at the value to you.
