Easy Oven Baked Beef Ribs

Easy oven baked BBQ beef ribs that are well-seasoned to the bone, slow baked, tender, juicy and fall off the bone perfection!

For some reason, it never fails that my sister and I get stuck making the beef ribs for family functions. Maybe it s because we make really great oven baked beef ribs but truth be told we have no clue what we re really doing and our oven baked ribs are, use to be, really hit or miss.

Here is how the conversation usually went. My sister calls me up-

Sister: Mama wants you to make beef ribs for .

Me: No she didn t, you know good and well she asked you to make them.

Sister: Yes, but I don t want to. So I ll buy them and let you make them ok.

Me: Umm…no ma am! Sister: Ok I ll drop them off.

Me: Shon don t bring them ribs over here. I m not even at home. (total lie)

Sister: Ok then I ll just leave them by the door m-kay. Byeee. Thanks boo. (and she hangs up before I have a chance to respond)

That girl gets on my nerve sometimes. LOL Gotta love her. I think we use to hate making the beef ribs because we really didn t have a tried and true recipe to work off of. Yes, I have another oven baked beef rib recipe on my site but I grew tired of that one. It was a little too saucy and time consuming. Not to mention, it wasn t doing the best job at making my husband do the air booty slap dance after he ate them. Which is what he does when I make something amazing.

I wanted an oven baked beef rib recipe that was simple, easy and made the best beef ribs all the time. Well I decided to do what any girl does when she needs a tried and true recipe to wow em, I called grandma. Ms. Barbara never disappoints honey. She made my hubby and I some oven baked BBQ beef ribs when we went to visit (yes she cooks a full spread for ANYBODY who tells her they are coming over. Like seriously. She is insanely sweet like that.) and he raved about how good they were. I love when my food makes my man happy so I was determined to recreate my grandma s ribs for him.

Well guess what happened? My husband liked this oven baked BBQ rib recipe better than Grandma Barbs. The only thing I did differently was add more spices to the rib spice rub recipe. I think this kicked up the taste of BBQ sauce and even helped to tenderize them a little more.

Now I ONLY make this oven beef rib recipe and after you try it, you may never make it any other way either. Hubby says I m not allowed to experiment with other recipes because these beef ribs took him on a journey somewhere and he couldn t stop eating them. He seriously almost ate the entire pan.I won t lie, they are amazing! Juicy, fall off the bone tender, well- seasoned, perfectly saucy and sticky! Everything I look for in a good oven baked BBQ beef rib.

Ok enough blabbering about these doggone beef ribs. Go make them for your man. For your wife. For yourself. For your kids. Somebody! Just make them. And devour them one by one until you push back from the table totally stuffed. I may or may not have done that. I served these oven baked BBQ beef ribs with sweet corn, steamed broccoli. garlic Texas toast and cinnamon mashed sweet potatoes…and of course sweet ice tea!

Holiday car hire: 10 ways to avoid being ripped off #electric #cars

Holiday car hire: 10 ways to avoid being ripped off

1. Buy the basic package only

The secret to saving money on car hire is to buy the basic package only. Car hire firms make all their profits by selling you the add-ons, which are usually absurdly expensive. In particular, ignore pressure to buy their collision damage waiver (CDW) or super CDW insurance, which will cover the excess , usually 500- 1,000, not covered by the basic insurance. Instead, arrange your own cover independently – see step three.

Use online agents such as holidayautos.co.uk, argushire.com, auto-europe.co.uk to check hire prices first, but also look on the sites of the major players, such as Hertz, Avis, Budget, Europcar and Sixt. They often have special offers making them just as cheap as the brokers, and booking direct has its benefits if there are problems later.

Keep to on-airport operators – not only are they more convenient, but cheap off-airport deals can be a false economy when the car turns out to be a dud. Hire deals organised by airlines such as Ryanair’s link with Hertz are rarely better value than using a broker or going to the hire firm direct.

2. Bring your own satnav and child car seats

We tested the cost of hiring a satnav for a week in Italy with Hertz and were asked for €97 ( 78.50) for one week. In Spain, Europcar wanted 77.

This is a waste of money. You can buy a new satnav that covers both the UK and Europe for around 50- 60.

Child seats are more tricky. Hertz wanted 78.50 while Europcar asked for 74, and 60 for a booster seat. But if you are flying with a charter airline such as Monarch, it is free to take a child seat with you. Booster seats cost as little as 8 to buy in the UK, indicating just how overpriced the car hire deals are.

If you are flying on a low-cost airline such as Ryanair, check the additional baggage cost when booking. Ryanair charges 10 each way for a child car seat, so even with this extra cost it can still make sense to bring it along.

3. Save 100 by buying excess insurance

When you rent a car, the price generally includes insurance cover for a major crash, write-off, etc, but leaves you with the bill for the first 500 to 1,000. If there are any small scratches or scrapes, adding up to, say, 500 worth of damage, it means you have to pay it in full. So the car hire firms try to persuade you into buying super CDW insurance to cover this first 500- 1,000. But they charge as much as 150 for a week, compared to the 33 cost of buying it independently.

Insurance4carhire.com is an independent insurance company that will sell you an annual excess policy for Europe for 49, or 4.75 per day for shorter rentals.

Unlike the car hire firm’s own policies, its policies cover damage to windows, tyres, undercarriage and the roof, and the rest of the car up to 2,000 per single claim. If you damage the car, you pay the car hire firm the agreed excess and then reclaim.

Readers who have claimed say customer service and claims handling is quick and excellent.

icarhireinsurance.com is another firm in this area. Its annual European policy is 40 a year, but is not quite as comprehensive.

4. Ignore the sales patter at the collection desk

This is where you need to be strong. Don’t be persuaded to buy insurance you have already paid for (above). When you fill out the rental agreement, the local agent will try to sell you their super CDW that reduces the excess to zero. They will tell you that your insurance isn’t valid (it is) and they will try to sell you windscreen wheel, tyre, and undercarriage insurance (if you bought from the likes of Insurance4carhire, you will also have this).

Assuming you have a policy, don’t fall for it. We get lots of complaints about this, and the car hire firm is under no obligation to refund you because you bought two policies – nor is the agent you hired the car from. If you paid twice, it’s your mistake.

When you refuse the extra cover, the rental firm will pre-authorise a sum to cover the excess on your credit card – typically 600 or so in the local currency. This is normal and allows the firm to charge your card the excess if you do have a crash. They will also charge you for the fuel if appropriate.

You will need enough available credit on your card to handle both.

5. Check the fuel policy, the mileage and other extras

Before you hand over your credit card details, look up the company’s fuel policy. If you are driving a long way, does your rental limit the mileage in any way? If you are under 25, is there a surcharge?

A growing number of firms (for Spanish rentals in particular) now insist on a full-to-empty fuel policy on rentals of more than three or four days. You pay for a full tank of fuel and then bring it back empty, which is fine in theory, but if you aren’t using the car much you’ll end up paying for three-quarters of a tank of fuel you didn’t use.

Renters on the small Spanish islands report it being impossible to use a full tank of fuel. Even the big firms now adopt this policy. The only way round it in Spain for those on a week’s holiday is to go for a series of short rentals. Elsewhere, such as Italy, it is less prevalent, but starting to appear.

6. Note all damage, and video or photograph the car

This is the key moment. Before you leave, go round the car and look for any damage and mark even minor scratches on the rental agreement. Don’t leave anything off. Same for the interior. Check the spare wheel is there, inflated and undamaged. Check the car is full of fuel if it supposed to be, and record the mileage, if it’s restricted.

Once you have marked all the damage on the sheet, get someone at the rental desk to sign it – even if it is a long walk or drive back to the desk. If you don’t there is nothing to stop the firm arguing that you caused the damage at the end the rental.

Once signed for, there can be no dispute. Take a video or digital pictures of the car (especially any pre-existing damage) as extra proof.

7. Photo the car on return and keep the paperwork

Assuming you have done no damage, and have filled it up (if required), park it up and then take digital photos of each panel of the car, the wheels, the mileometer, and other shots.

Hand the keys back to the person at the desk. If late at night post them through the letter box. Be wary if approached by someone in the car park claiming to work for the car firm. One reader faced a lengthy battle after his car was stolen in this way.

Lastly, keep hold of the paperwork. Don’t throw it away, thinking the rental is over – it’s not.

8. Keep an eye on your credit card statement

Check your credit card statement a few days later to make sure promised fuel payments and excess charges are returned and keep an eye out in later statements that no extra payments have mysteriously materialised.

9. Fight any additional charges

If you have wisely bought excess protection, simply claim from the firm in question. If the claim is spurious, pass this on to them and let them sort it out. If you bought the car hire firm’s policy (why?) and the claimed damage is not covered – it rarely is – then it is time to go into battle.

Send a copy of the photos you took, and talk to the company. Some, particularly those in Spain, will ignore you. Take it up with the agent you made the booking through. They may help. If the hire firm has a UK presence, contact the offices here.

Ask for evidence of repairs that were supposedly carried out.

If you don’t get anywhere and know you are innocent, raise the dispute with your credit card provider. The card firm may again try to ignore it, but they are in the UK, and will be easier to tackle. It will then be up to the car hire firm to prove its claim is valid.

10. So which car hire company do you go with?

Shop around, of course, but one firm that we get relatively few complaints about is Holiday Autos. It has the advantage of offering a one-stop shop in that you can buy its basic rental – it also offers Insurance4carhire’s excess insurance in the same booking – albeit branded as its own total damage excess waiver.

Just remember you’ve already paid and don’t pay again at the rental desk. The downside to using Holiday Autos is that to ring it you must pay 10p a minute. It charges to add an additional driver – €23 for a week’s rental in Spain – compared to Europcar’s 60. Holiday Autos’ baby seat charges aren’t excessive either. It is part of lastminute.com, so you have a big parent company to complain to if things go wrong.

J.G. Wentworth Blog

A Question of Character, Part One

Hi folks, J.G. Wentworth here. Today, we would like to talk about a topic that we normally don t discuss here. But because the topic is so important, we feel that we have to and that the best way to do it is to address the topic directly. So without further ado, here it is:

Is our company a scam?

The problem is, certain sites on the Internet sure make it seem that way. They write things like, I just saw a commercial for J.G. Wentworth. Don t let them take advantage of you! or Don t trust J.G. Wentworth! or even This company is a scam! They rip off poor people!

Here at J.G. Wentworth, we have read some of these accusations, and they bother us deeply. They bother us not just because they re so untrue but also because they attack us in a place that hurts the most: our character.

The character of our company is something we take very seriously at J.G. Wentworth. For 20 years we have worked extremely hard to build our reputation, and we have built it to the point where we are now one of the largest and most respected buyers of structured settlements and annuities in the country. We are a company that people often turn to when they have immediate financial problems the company that works to get people cash now for their future payments the company that is available just about any time to get folks just like you our fairest deal on their payments.

So when anybody writes those things about us, it hurts. A lot.

In our next blog, we would like to spend more time discussing this topic, and why this portrayal of our company is so untrue. For the time being, however, let us be clear: J.G. Wentworth is not a scam. J.G. Wentworth has not, nor ever will, rip off people. At J.G. Wentworth, our business ethics are very important to us. We have been in business since 1992, and we will keep doing our best job for our customers every single day we go to work.

We look forward to continuing this conversation in our next blog. In the meantime, if you have any questions, please feel free to give us a call at 877-227-4713.

Should I Sell My Car to Get Out of Debt Pay Off Bills?

By David Quilty

How strong is your desire to get out of debt? What are you willing to give up, sell, or live without in order to meet that dream head on? Would you be inclined to sell your beloved car in order to bring your balance sheet back into the black? In many cases, selling your car and going without one, or replacing it with something cheaper, can be a great way to finally pay off your debt.

To help you make this decision, evaluate how much your car is really costing you. To do this, you must think beyond your monthly payment. Sure, your payment may only be $280 a month, but that doesn t include any associated costs like rising gas prices. car insurance. scheduled (and unscheduled) auto maintenance, and any parking permits or parking fees you have to pay for work or home. Depending on where you live and what you drive, this could add up to a small fortune every month.

Is that amount inhibiting you from paying off your debt? If so, consider selling your car. Or maybe trading in that money-pit would be the way to go for your finances. Whether or not this move makes sense will depend on your car, your habits, and your locale.

Questions to Ask Before Selling Your Car

1. How Much Do You Spend on Gas, Insurance, and Maintenance?

All cars carry at least these three expenses. Some cars are gas guzzlers, while others prefer to sip (e.g. hybrid cars ), which means big savings for you at the pump. Insurance can also be significantly more expensive for, say, a red sports car compared to a Volvo station-wagon.

Maintenance is another expense that for some cars can be significantly higher than for others. For example, does your car need specialty dealer-made parts, or are off-brands available? Can you perform DIY car maintenance tips on your own? An analysis of these factors can help you determine how much your car is really costing you, and if it s worth giving up.

2. Do You Still Owe Money on Your Car?

If you are only one year into a five-year payment plan, chances are that you owe way more on your vehicle than a buyer would be willing to pay for it (i.e. upside down car loan ). The minute you drive your new car off the dealer s lot, you lose thousands of dollars in value.

Find out how much your car is currently worth on a site like Kelley Blue Book or Edmunds. If you sold the car, could you pay off the balance directly out of the sales price? Or would you have to dig into your emergency savings to cover the remainder?

Or is the balance owed completely above and beyond your ability to pay? If you can t cover the remaining balance without borrowing more money, keep the car and continue to make payments. That said, keep tabs on the value of your car versus the balance on your loan. Once you can come close to breaking even, consider selling the car again.

3. Do You Own Your Car Outright?

When you own your car outright (i.e. you have the title in hand), you can sell it for whatever the market will bear. If it s worth $5,000 and you sell it for that, will that make a serious dent in your debt? You need to weigh the reward you get from paying down or paying off your debt against what you give up by selling your car.

If you have an extra car that sits unused most of the time, or if you can carpool with your spouse, it might be well worth it. On the other hand, if you give up your only mode of transportation to work, it s probably a bad idea to sell your car.

4. Do You Even Need a Car?

Most New Yorkers can live without a car due to the high quality public transportation system, the walkable commutes, the bike lanes to ride your bike to work. and the constant availability of taxi cabs. Los Angeles residents, on the other hand,   find it difficult to get anywhere without their own car because the city is so spread out and public transportation is only available in select areas.

If you live and work in a city that encourages residents to be vehicle-free, why not try it out for a while? And if you still occasionally need a car, check and see if your area has any car-sharing services. These services rent cars by the hour or day and include gas, insurance, and maintenance for a very reasonable price.

5. If You Still Need a Car, Can You Afford a Cheaper One?

Let s say you sell your car and put the money towards your debt, but you still need a car. Can you afford a smaller, less expensive vehicle using the monthly interest you ve saved by paying down your debt? If you d have to borrow money to buy a car again, think twice before selling the one you already own. But if you can sell your car, are able to pay off some debt with the proceeds, and can still afford to pay cash for a cheaper car, then definitely consider selling.

6. What About Lifestyle Considerations?

You don t want to find out too late that you needed the gas-guzzling Suburban and can t get along without it. For example, do you enjoy carting your daughter s entire soccer team, plus gear, to various games and events? Or, do you otherwise need to transport large loads that a 45 mpg vehicle just can t handle? In addition to expenses, examine how you use your car and how or if you could live without it, or with something different.

2018 Jeep Wrangler: A More Modern Mountain Goat

What It Is: The 11th-generation descendant of the warrior that helped win freedom in World War II.

Why It Matters: Jeep sold more than 200,000 Wranglers last year. It s a cash-spewing ATM that pays a lot of the company s bills. It s also the heart of the Jeep brand.

Platform: Jeep will continue with rugged body-on-frame construction to serve the off-roading aspirations of its faithful and multiplying constituents. That said, the coming edition will use modern materials to cut weight and boost mileage. Expect a hydroformed steel ladder frame carrying a body made of high-strength steel, aluminum, and plastic. A four-door pickup will join the lineup of two- and four-door models with hard- and softtops.

Powertrain. Today s 3.6-liter DOHC V-6 will soldier on with manual and automatic transmissions. Fiat Chrysler s current product plan also includes a turbo-diesel alternative in the near term and a hybrid after 2020, along with a possible turbocharged gasoline four-cylinder code-named Hurricane making around 300 horsepower.

Competition: The Wrangler is without peer, a gully-busting rock climber you can drive to work. Compact crossovers bow in its presence. A new Land Rover Defender, expected next year, may re-invade this sphere, though at twice the price.

What Might Go Wrong: Failure is not an option. With Ferrari pawned off, Jeep is Fiat Chrysler s hero, the rare American brand with global admiration, solid profitability, huge sales potential, and a brilliant future.

An Introduction to Off-Roading

A special thanks to the folks atToyota,Bass Pro Shops, andBig Cedar Lodgein Branson, MO for bringing me out for an off road adventure behind the wheel of Toyota’s new off road lineup. If you are in the market for a capable off road machine, Toyota is legendary in the off road world and a good place to start looking.Having been a proud FJ Cruiser owner since their debut back in 2007, I can vouch for their impressive capabilities both on and off the beaten path!

Unfortunately, most 4 wheel drive vehicles on the road today spend their entire lives…on the road. For the average driver, a 4 4 option is only a way to retain resale value in their vehicle and possibly be able to still get groceries when the snow starts falling. It is time to get that off road machine of yours off the beaten trail. Men, let’s get a little mud on the tires.

Off road driving can take several forms. From the weekend trail rider to the die hard rock crawler, off roaders the world over know that there are few better ways to get your jollies than taking total control of your vehicle as you take it places most people never knew they could go. Let’s take a brief look at some of the places you might find yourself when you decide to leave the pavement behind, keeping in mind that this is just an introduction and is by no means all you need to know when hitting the trail. Remember, the most important elements of a successful off road adventure are safety and preparation.

A Brief Lesson in Off Road Vocabulary

4 4 High: All-purpose four wheel drive mode used in most cases. As opposed to 2 wheel drive, all four wheels are engaged and powered by the powertrain. “High” refers to the gear ratio, meaning that the gear ratio is unchanged from the ratio used in 2 wheel drive.

4 4 Low: Four wheel drive mode where a lower gear ratio is engaged, thus delivering higher torque to the wheels and lowering maximum speed. Useful in slower off road situations, rock crawling, and for getting unstuck when things go south.

Locking Differential: Also known as “diff lock,” this refers to the speed at which the wheels turn. In most standard 4 4 modes, the wheels spin at different speeds to compensate for loose or uneven terrain. When the differential is locked, wheels all move at the same speed. A tool used in advanced off-roading and for getting unstuck.

Approach Angle: The maximum incline angle that a vehicle can climb or descend without any part of the body or suspension making contact with the driving surface.

Wheelbase: Distance from the center of a truck s front wheel to the center of the rear wheel on the same side of the vehicle.

Wheel Travel: The maximum distance a wheel can move up and down. The greater the travel, the more capable the suspension system and the better on and off road traction.

Rock Massage: What you get when you attempt rock crawling without taking the necessary precautions and being properly qualified.

Tips and Tricks

Terrain Type: Gravel, Dry Dirt, Grasslands

Equipment Needed: 4 Wheel Drive vehicle

Trail driving is the simplest and safest of your off-roading options and is a good choice for the beginner just looking to get their bearings in the off-roading world. Many state and federal parks have off road trails available specifically for vehicle travel, so do your research and see what is available in your area. If you are new to off-roading, make sure you are comfortable with the level of difficulty. Don’t attempt any steep climbs or descents or water crossings of any type, particularly if your off road machine also serves as your daily driver.

Equipment Needed: 4 Wheel Drive vehicle, Air compressor and tire gauge

Difficulty Level: Intermediate

Before you set out on the dunes, make sure what you are about to do is legal. Most beaches will be clearly marked designating whether the area is 4 4 accessible or not. Since traction is not easily acquired on sand, most drivers will need to deflate the air pressure in their tires down to between 15 and 20psi, allowing the tire tread to spread more and grip more surface (remember to immediately air back up to recommended levels before driving on pavement). Momentum is key when traveling on loose terrain such as sand, so be sure that if you are driving through soft sand you do not slow down unless absolutely necessary. If you feel the vehicle digging in or getting stuck while moving, turn the wheel left and right repetitively to allow the tires to grip fresh terrain and gain better traction.

Terrain Type: Mud, Shallow Water (6 inches or less)

Equipment Needed: 4 Wheel Drive vehicle, All Terrain or Mud Terrain tires

Difficulty Level: Intermediate

The tendency with driving in the mud is to floor it, spin the tires, maybe slide the vehicle around a bit. While this is certainly fun, it is also risky business. Once your vehicle starts sliding, it won’t stop until it wants to, and you have forfeited all control. Sure, it will impress your buddies to see you pull off that 360 degree spin you’ve been dreaming about, but they’ll forget how impressed they are when your finishing move involves the oak tree on the edge of the mud hole. It is much better to be the guy who maintains control of his vehicle, maybe even the guy who is towing all the showboats out of the mud, than to be the showboat yourself.

Many of the same principles apply to mud driving as sand driving. Maintain momentum if possible. If you feel you are getting stuck, quickly and repetitively turn the wheel left and right. Most importantly, if you do get stuck, the last thing you want to do is dig yourself in deeper, so avoid the tendency to floor it and spin the tires. First, get out and look at what you have gotten yourself into. Depending on how bad it is, you may be able to drive it out, you may not. Try rocking the vehicle back and forth by shifting from reverse to drive, at very low RPMs if you think it is escapable. If not, you may be hitting your buddies up for a tow.

**More advanced off road environments, such as river runs and rock crawling, are best left to those with a great deal of experience, and no written how-to will ever be as valuable as the knowledge acquired through hands on experience.**

Important All Purpose Tips

In off road driving as well as life in general, nothing beats knowledge. Prepare for every circumstance, and know what you are getting yourself into. Familiarize yourself not only with the environment you are entering, but with the vehicle itself. Sure, you know how to switch on the air conditioning, but do you know the location of your air intake or on board computer in case you get into some deeper water and risk submerging them? Familiarize yourself with your vehicle’s manual and you will be best equipped for the unexpected. Most importantly, never, ever go alone. Have another driver in another vehicle with a tow rope and be sure you have cell phone reception in case of an emergency.
