How Can I Determine the Real Value of My Car?

There are plenty of reasons you might need to find out the value of your car, even if you’re not selling it. If you total your car, knowing how much it was worth before the accident can help get you the most money from your claim. You would also want to know how much it’s worth if you plan to use your car as collateral for a personal loan. And, of course, if you’re buying one, overpaying is the last thing you want to do.

Get a Value Estimate From Sites Like Kelley or Edmunds

Now, keep in mind that these values may not be tied to actual cars or car sales. Kelley, for example, determines car value based on a car’s initial price when it was new, market conditions, what people look for, and bunch of other factors. They don’t, however, analyze all used car sales (it would be impossible to track them all, anyway). So, while the KBB value may bear a close resemblance to what you might pay at a used car dealership, you would probably not get that same amount for a trade-in, or even a private sale unless you could prove it’s worth that much.

Find Listings for Similar Cars

Unless you’re dealing with very old or very rare cars, someone out there is probably selling a vehicle that’s very similar to yours. Search used car listings in your area for vehicles that are the same make, model, and year as your vehicle and see how much others are charging.

If you’re dealing with a total loss insurance claim, this will be your best bet for proving the value of your vehicle. The purpose of insurance is to make you whole again in the event of an emergency. You lost your car, so your insurance is supposed to pay you an amount equal to the value of that car. Occasionally, insurance companies will low ball you in an attempt to save money. You can take used car listings to your insurance agent to prove that, if you had to buy your car on the market today, this is how much it would cost. If the amount they offer is significantly lower than that, it’s time to negotiate (though be aware the price can be affected by factors described in the next section).

Additionally, if you’re selling your car yourself, used car listings are your chance to see what customers are looking for and undercut the competition. Your car may be worth $10,000, but if you’re willing to accept $9,500, you can put your car on the market for that amount and become more attractive to potential buyers (and in doing so, you have an effect on the objective value of your vehicle).

Finally, in doing your research, be sure to look at similar cars, not just identical ones. Knowing how much your exact year and model of car is worth is a big help, but buyers are probably not quite as picky. If you have a 2005 model vehicle, but the 2007 model is $5,000 more expensive, shoppers looking for a 2007 may be okay with getting something a couple years older if it saves them a bunch of money.

Factor in Mileage, Condition, and Extras

Not all cars with the same year, make, and model are created equal. Well, actually, many are created equal because they’re in a factory that way, but they don’t stay like that! Mileage is a huge factor in determining what a car is worth. While some cars last longer than others, a vehicle with less than 50,000 miles on it probably has a lot more life in it than one with 150,000 miles.

Determining how much the mileage of a car will reduce its value is not exactly a science, and it depends a lot on the age of the vehicle (a 2012 car with 30k miles on it has clearly been driven pretty hard, while a 2001 car with 60k miles on it probably hasn’t been driven much at all). However, in the US, the average person drives between 12k and 15k per year. Any more than that per year that your car has been around will probably reduce the value more, while less than that will probably drive its price up a bit. Again, look to see what other similar cars are going for.

Mileage isn’t the only extra that can affect a car’s price. Extras such as the sound system, sun roofs, convertible tops, and any other neat thing your car has can increase the cost. Of course, upgrading the CD player to a touchscreen XM radio won’t undo the fact that you drove your car 20k miles every year, but if your car has heated leather seats and an otherwise identical car does not, yours should probably cost a bit more.

Negotiate Up

If you followed the last few sections, you have just about all the information you could possibly need. Now, bring that price up. Remember, it’s your car and you want to get as much value for it as possible. The buyer/insurance agent/loan officer/whoever you’re dealing with on the other side of the table will do their job to bring it down. Use your information as a baseline to know how much your vehicle deserves and don’t go below what you know you can get. From there, talk it up.

Promote all the extras. Talk about how great of a condition its in. If you’re selling to a person, try to appeal to what they want in a car and highlight those features. If you’re trying to argue an insurance claim, point out ways in which your vehicle is better than others on the market (lower mileage for its year, better condition, fewer accidents prior to the wreck in question). Some cars may have more value than others, but every car has something to offer. Even if it doesn’t run, it could be used for parts or scrap metal.

Ultimately, as I stated at the beginning of this post, your car is worth whatever you can get someone to pay for it. Some people prefer to get a moderate amount of money up front if they can get it in cash, while others will hold out as long as possible to get every last cent they can. Once you know what your car has going for it and how much those assets can go for on the open market, how high you’re able to go all depends on how good your negotiation skills are.

How do I: Determine the value of my car?

What you’ll need: year, make, model and Mileage of car; car’s history AND amount of wear and tear; LIST OF nonstandard additions to car, factory or otherwise

What you need to know

Cars are expensive items that, unlike homes or jewelry, lose value the longer you own them.

The most important items in determining your car’s value are its age and condition. Go over the car and ask yourself the following questions:

  • Does it have high mileage?
  • Is the exterior scratched or dented?
  • Is the interior stained, ripped or smelly?
  • Is the car clean?
  • Were extra items — such as specialty pedals or seats — added to the car that could detract from the its value?

After determining the car’s condition, search to find the its fair market value. Whether you are selling your car or looking to donate it, the Internal Revenue Service recommends any of the widely used auto guidebooks, such as the ones from Kelley Blue Book. Edmunds or the National Automobile Dealer’s Association .

Each of these sites asks you to answer general questions about the car and to list the car’s extra options.

How Do I Estimate the Value of My Donated Car for My Tax Deduction?

OVERVIEW

Deducting your car donation can save you a significant amount of income tax.

Donating your car to charity can be a good deal for both you and the organization you give it to. A charity may keep your vehicle for its own use, donate it to someone in need or sell it to obtain the cash. Deducting your car donation can save you a significant amount of income tax; however, the IRS increased the documentation requirements you must adhere to. To avoid having the IRS question your deduction, be sure to follow the guidelines and keep every document that proves your donation.

Step 1 – Find a qualified charity

The most important step in deducting the value of your car donation is to insure the charity you donate it to is an IRS tax-exempt organization. Only the donations you make to these types of organizations allow you to claim the deduction. Generally, these include religious groups, charities and organizations that promote education, literacy, scientific or humanitarian causes.

Step 2 – Estimate the value of your car

Step 3 – Determine usage

Find out how the organization intends to use the car. If it’s going to sell the car, the IRS limits your deduction to the sale price, even if it s below the market value. However, if it sells for $500 or less, you can claim a deduction for the lesser of its fair market value or $500. If the organization plans to keep the car, then you can deduct the value you found in the used-car price guide. If that value is greater than $5,000 and the charity doesn t sell the car, then the IRS requires you to obtain a written appraisal before claiming a deduction.

Step 4 – Acquire documentation

If the Accident Is My Fault, Will My Auto Insurance Cover Me? #lower #my #bills #auto #insurance

If the Accident Is My Fault, Will My Auto Insurance Cover Me?

In most states, hashing out fault after a auto crash is important for one main reason — deciding whose insurance will foot the bill for repairs and medical expenses. For this reason, it’s crucial to get insurance that protects you, as well as the other driver, when you’re at fault in an accident.

Liability insurance will cover other occupants

Nearly all states require you to have a certain amount of liability coverage to pay for repairs and medical costs associated with accidents you cause.

Required liability coverage generally includes bodily injury (per person and per accident), property damage and, in some states, uninsured/underinsured motorist protection (which covers you if the at-fault driver is not insured or doesn’t have enough insurance).

Auto insurance that covers the policyholder

Liability insurance covers only the other driver’s expenses. So, if you have just the minimum liability coverage required by law, you’ll be footing the bill for your own car’s repairs and your medical bills if you cause an accident.

To be completely covered for an at-fault accident, you should carry the following types of insurance in addition to the liability coverage required by your state. All these types of coverage are optional, and they will raise your premium.

  • Collision coverage. Collision coverage pays for the repair or replacement of your car, even if you are at fault in an accident. It covers you whether you hit another car, a building or a tree, according to the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC). Collision coverage almost always includes a deductible — the amount you must pay before your insurance kicks in. Typical deductible amounts are $250, $500 and $1,000, according to NAIC. The higher your deductible, the lower your premium.
  • Medical payments coverage. If you don’t live in a no-fault state where personal injury protection is required, medical payments coverage pays for your medical costs and those of your passengers. It can even cover family members driving your car. Medical payments coverage typically pays for hospital stays, doctor’s visits, physical therapy and funeral expenses.

If you already have health insurance, you may not need this coverage. However, medical payments coverage for your car can sometimes help pay your health insurance deductible.

What are tort, no-fault laws?

Insurance coverage laws differ between so-called tort states and no-fault states. In tort states, fault is assigned in an accident, and the at-fault party’s insurance covers all costs. In a no-fault state, each party’s medical bills are covered by his or her own insurance company.

So, if you live in a no-fault state, your auto insurance already covers your injury costs, even if you’re at fault. No-fault states require you to purchase a minimum amount of personal injury protection (PIP) to cover your medical bills.

However, your basic no-fault auto insurance policy will not pay for damages to your car, according to Michigan’s Office of Financial and Insurance Regulation. You still will need to buy collision coverage.

IP Network Classes

IP Networking Classes

Every host on a TCP/IP network needs to have a unique address, similar to you needing a unique address for your house. With this unique address, it is possible to send data from host to host.

Every packet contains addressing information in the header, and the IP address in the header is used to route packets.

If several people on your street had the same address, the post office would have a difficult time sorting mail. For a similar reason, IP addresses are unique on each network.

What is IP addressing?

IP addressing is simply configuring each TCP/IP host with a valid IP address.

For access to the Internet, a host must have an IP address that identifies not only the host address (like a house number) but also identifies the network address (like a street number).

An administrator needs to be aware of proper addressing techniques so that the hosts on the network will function correctly. TCP/IP addresses are based on 32-bit addresses.

IP Address classes

IP addresses are divided into five IP classes:
IP address class A
IP address class B
IP address class C
IP address class D
IP address class E

All IP addresses are placed in a particular class based on the decimal values of their first octets. In the first octet, an IP address can start with a decimal value between 1 and 255.

IP class A addresses have first octets with a decimal number from 1 to 127. Example:
27.x.y.z
102.x.y.z

IP class B addresses have first octets with a decimal number from 128 to 191.Example:
128.x.y.z
151.x.y.z

IP class C addresses have first octets with a decimal number from 192 to 223.Example:
192.x.y.z
223.x.y.z

IP class D addresses have decimal values from 224 to 239 in the first octet, and the 4 leftmost bits are 1110.Example:
224.x.y.z
239.x.y.z

The last IP address class of addresses is IP class E. IP class E addresses range from 240 to 255 in the first octet, and the 4 leftmost bits are 1111. Example:
240.x.y.z
255.x.y.z

The system of IP class addresses has been set up to help ensure assignment of unique IP addresses. DHCP discover, DHCP offer, DHCP request, and DHCP acknowledgment are are four steps in getting an IP address from a DHCP server.

Computer IP Address Configuration

To find out local what is My IP address and possible TCP/IP networking problem follow next steps:

  • If you use win9x/ME go to start-run and type winipcfg. and then press ENTER
  • For win2k/xp or wista go to start-run (Windows Wista user go to Windows button), type cmd and then ENTER. At the DOS prompt type ipconfig and you’ll see DNS suffix, IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway. For more info type ipconfig /all
  • For Macintosh select the TCP/IP control panel from the Apple menu’s “Control Panels” sub-menu. The TCP/IP control panel window will open and display your ip address.

How much is my car worth? (True Market Value (TMV) Car Selling Jeep Liberty) #call #a #car

#whats my car worth
#

Question

Edit Answer (for another 1 minute)

First off, use the True Market Value tool to “appraise” your particular car, putting in all the options, mileage, trim level, location, color, ect.

TMV will give you a trade-in value, a private party value and a dealer retail value.

For some back-up numbers, go to www.autotrader.com. and using their advanced search feature, search nationwide for Libertys with similar mileage and equipment (autotrader search allows you to customize your search).

Once you get a list of Libertys like yours for sale, scroll to the bottom of the page, and you will see a summary section that shows the number of cars that came up, the highest price, lowest price and average price.

Now remember, this is average ASKING price, so figure 5-10% lower for “real money”

in theory, this average price adjusted for real money, should come pretty close to TMV private party numbers.

KEEP IN MIND that when you use any of these tools, you MUST be sure you are researching your trim level and your mileage. You cannot compare a higher trim level or a car with 50,000 fewer miles.

How Much is My Car Worth

How Much is My Car Worth?

A car is worth as much as you can get someone to pay for it.

    How much is that?

Used cars can vary in price depending on when you sell a car, how you sell it, and who you sell it to.

Which car price guide has the right price for my car?

The price that you will be able to sell your vehicle for is mostly determined by what price guide the buyer may be using. Price guides are targeted at specific markets. There are four guides that dominate the market:

    • Kelly Blue Book: This is the best known guide for consumers, mostly because they were the first to offer their guide online. They primarily list used car values, with both retail and private sale prices.
    • Edmunds: They mainly target new car buyers, focusing on prices for new cars and trade-in values.
    • NADA: Published by National Automotive Dealers Association, this is commonly used by new dealers and banks. They also publish a classic car guide, as well as RV, boat, and motorcycle guides. Their books are blue and gold, which sometimes gets them confused with the Kelly Blue Book.
    • Black Book: This book is mostly used by used car dealers. Unlike the other guides, this one is quite pricey because it is published several times a year using data gathered for regional auction prices.

Why are prices different between private and retail sales?

Car lots are staffed with professionals that have to build their reputation to stay in business. Hopefully this means that the cars they are offering have had any problems fixed.

Private owners often don’t have the expertise or don’t want to put forth the effort to make sure the car they’re selling is in good running order. Also, since this is the only vehicle they’re selling, they can get away with selling a bad car more easily than a lot. Privately sold cars trade for lower prices because there is more risk involved.

What about the value of antique cars?

Pricing of classic cars is far more difficult because some models may not come up for sale often and their quality can be all over the map. These cars can be separated into four broad categories, with each one attracting a different market.

    • Survivor: This is a car that is basically as it left the factory. There may be some wear and tear, but it shows what a “real” car is like. While some high performance cars are bought new specifically for resale later, others are so rare that it’s hard to predict their value before a sale. These types of vehicles mostly go to museums and serious collectors, making them an ideal candidate for antique car auctions and national sales like eBay.
    • Restored: Major work has been done to these cars, but they’ve been kept in a form close to how they would have been equipped when they came off the line. In most cases, the closer the vehicle is kept to its original form, the higher its value is. A “numbers matching” engine has the same VIN stamped on it as the firewall, which means it’s the one the car came with from the factory.

Generally, the nicer a vehicle looks, the higher its value will be. This holds true even if the quality is better than it would have been from the factory, and there has been much debate whether it’s better for a vehicle to have original-style paint or shinier, better wearing clearcoat paint. Classic car guides like NADA’s will give you a general idea of a price, but the actual sale price will deviate more than a newer car due to differences in condition.

    • Resto-mod: This is a car that has been updated with modern components to make it a daily driver. This can be as simple as switching to a different engine, or can be a ground-up build with a modern car covered in a vintage body. Even the best resto-mod will only sell for the equivalent cost of a new vehicle with similar equipment.
    • Hot rods: These vehicle are affected more by fads than any other car because they’re all about style. Reproduction parts have become so popular you can build a ’32 Ford Roadster hot rod entirely from things found in a catalog, so being able to show what parts of the car are original can improve its value.

There is another subset of cars that strives to use period-correct hot rod parts. In the case of the ’32 Ford, this type of car would be powered by a flathead Ford with Offenhauser heads rather than the ubiquitous Chevy small block. These cars always have a high value because they can be very difficult to create. Fortunately, there is no such thing as a “stock” hot rod, so parts choices are much broader than on a restored car. Sometimes hot rods cross into resto-mod territory, with the addition of modern conveniences like air conditioning making a car more desirable to buyers wanting to go to cruise nights.

How much are these cars worth?

Nostalgia plays a major role in a car’s value. Today muscle cars are trading for large amounts of money because the people who are looking for antiques remember these vehicles from their childhood. Meanwhile, pre-WWII car values have plummeted, as few drivers are old enough to remember them while newer drives see them as impractical.

Rare doesn’t necessarily mean desirable. While a few missing trim pieces on a Mustang can be ordered from any number of catalogs, they may be all but impossible to get for a similar vintage AMX. Completeness plays a bigger part in a car’s price as you

Drivability has a major impact on sales. Unless you’re dealing in something super-rare, most people want something they can drive in club meets or take to shows. Minor improvements like an air conditioner converted to R-134 or a modernized ignition system can make your car much more appealing.

How can I improve the value of my car?

    • Cleanliness: No matter what you’re selling, a professional detail will make your car look far newer and better cared for.
    • Documentation: This is particularly true of special models that can be recreated with spare parts, like Hemi Chryslers or the Integra Type R. There are services available for getting a reproduction window sticker for classic cars, allowing prospective buyers to compare the car’s current state with its equipment from the factory. Any receipts or manuals you have for other parts show the car has been taken care of.
    • Professional upgrades: Equipment added to a car by well known shops like Saleen or Steeda add a great deal to the value of a car.Buyers know that these improvements have been tested and are backed by a reputable company. Again, documentation is crucial. Most of these cars come with a separate window sticker detailing these modifications. Some of these cars will also come with the signature by the builder or licensing partner, often in some obscure place like the inside of the trunk lid.
    • Fads: Car values can be affected by things that move too fast to be charted by price guides. For example, during gas price hikes a couple years ago fuel efficient vehicles were in high demand. Geo Metros, which used to trade for $500-$1,000 shot up to $3,000 almost overnight. Now that gas is inexpensive again, they’ve returned to their previous sale value.

There are also some things that people think add value to a vehicle, but don’t.

    • Options: Rare and desirable options can add value, but only if it’s something that can’t be removed from the car. For example, M Edition wheels are highly sought after by Miata enthusiasts because they’re the lightest stock wheels available. However, since they’re easy to switch between vehicles, they don’t increase the value of the car. On the other hand, Mazda has released British Racing Green Miatas in very small numbers, increasing the value of these vehicles over Miatas in other colors. Some “special editions” are either so common or little known as to have no effect on price while something familiar like the Indianapolis Pace Car Edition often trade for at least 20% more than regular models.
    • Amateur upgrades: No matter how well your additions may work, buyers will see them as possible problems. This includes everything from boost controllers to lift kits. Often the best way to get your money out of these parts is to sell them separately from the car. However, you may be able to recover some of this if your car has a proven race history: time slips and trophies show your modifications work, and buyers may be encouraged to purchase your car if it can meet race series requirements.

Gabourey Sidibe Opens Up About Weight-Loss Surgery for the First Time: ‘I Love My Body Now’

Last year, the Empire star underwent weight-loss surgery, and she s opening up about the experience — and her battle with depression, anxiety and bulimia — for the first time in her new memoir, This Is Just My Face: Try Not to Stare. excerpted exclusively in the latest issue of PEOPLE.

I just didn t want to worry, Sidibe, 33, tells PEOPLE of her decision to get laproscopic bariatric surgery after she and her older brother Ahmed, 34, were diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. I truly didn t want to worry about all the effects that go along with diabetes. I genuinely [would] worry all the time about losing my toes.

The star — who rose to fame playing the titular role in Precious in 2009 — tried for more than a decade to lose weight naturally before opting for the procedure. And in May of 2016, she secretly went under the knife.

My surgeon said they’d cut my stomach in half. This would limit my hunger and capacity to eat. My brain chemistry would change and I’d want to eat healthier. I’ll take it! My lifelong relationship with food had to change, she writes in her wise, witty and unapologetic memoir, out in May.

The surgery wasn t the easy way out, she says. I wasn t cheating by getting it done. I wouldn t have been able to lose as much as I ve lost without it.

Since the procedure, Sidibe has changed her eating habits — working with a nutritionist — and upped her fitness regimen, working out with a trainer, swimming and riding a tricycle around the Empire set.

The star s decision to undergo surgery wasn t one she took lightly. Since she was 6 years old, the New York City native has struggled with her appearance. And after her parents — a subway singer (mom Alice) and taxi driver (dad, Ibnou) — split, she battled depression, anxiety and bulimia, which she eventually overcame through therapy.

It has taken me years to realize that what I was born with is all beautiful, she writes in her book. I did not get this surgery to be beautiful. I did it so I can walk around comfortably in heels. I want to do a cartwheel. I want not to be in pain every time I walk up a flight of stairs.

Ten months after her procedure, Sidibe continues to lose weight.

I have a goal right now, and I m almost there, she says. And then once I ve got it, I ll set another. But my starting weight and my goal weight, they re personal. If too many people are involved, I ll shut down.

Even before she decided to get the surgery, Sidibe had some hesitations.

I know I m beautiful in my current face and my current body. What I don t know about is the next body, she writes her in This Is Just My Face. I admit it, I hope to God I don t get skinny. If I could lose enough to just be a little chubby, I ll be over the moon! Will I still be beautiful then? S . Probably. My beauty doesn t come from a mirror. It never will.

Indeed, the American Horror Story alum has come to appreciate her appearance, no matter her dress size.

There s nothing ugly about me. Anyone trying to convince me that I am — and it s usually me — is wasting her time, she says. I was in a war with my body for a long time. If I’d started treating it better sooner, I wouldn’t have spent so many years hating myself. But I love my body now.

What s my car worth? How to value your car for an accurate valuation #cheap #rental

#what is my used car worth
    #

The right price for your car is a balance between its ‘book’ value and what will ensure it gets the attention of potential buyers amongst similar cars for sale.

Get this balance wrong and either you’ll be deluged in buyers and end up out of pocket. Or there’ll be a stoney silence and the cost of advertising will have been wasted.

Start by looking up your car in magazines like Parkers Used Car Price Guide or in the back of several other car magazines. You can get values for recent cars free on the Parkers and What Car? websites. On the Parkers site, for a small fee you can get a more precise valuation by giving any special features of your car. Car dealers use a different publication to find prices called Glass’s Guide – for a small charge you can use this too.

Kwik Tip . always get a car insurance quote from Direct Line too,

as they don’t take part in the price comparison websites.

But remember these are all only guides. If selling your car privately, the marketplace is an even more important indicator of the price you can set. So also look at the ads in your local paper or Auto Trader magazine to see how many cars like yours are up for sale, and their prices.

If part-exchanging your car. dealers won’t necessarily accept the ‘trade’ prices the guides give as definitive. What they offer you will also be based on factors like whether they want your old car, what they think they’ll get back for it when selling it on, the price of the car you’re intending to buy and your haggling skills . Certainly don’t expect a dealer to give you the sort of prices shown on their forecourt for similar cars to yours. Dealers have overheads to pay, they will probably have to spend money on the car to prepare it for sale, and you aren’t offering them any warranty.

As well as its age and type, your car’s value will be affected by its condition, mileage and any extras it has. Guides break down values by condition; usually Excellent, Good and Poor. When selling privately, if your car is in a typical condition for its age with no obvious faults or damage, then that would be classed as ‘Good’. To achieve the ‘Excellent’ price, a car would need to have a full dealer service history, as well as being in a largely unmarked condition.

Average mileage is 10,000 miles a year. If your car is above or below that for its age, you can adjust the price accordingly. If the marketplace will allow it, factor in around 30 – 50 per 1,000 miles for a typical car.

Very few ‘optional extras’ add much value to a car. Those that do are an auto or semi-auto gearbox, leather seats, air conditioning and fitted satnav. Power steering and electric kit are found in most modern cars these days, so make little difference to price. Metallic paint and alloys, despite also being increasingly common, are worth a little extra simply because they add appeal and make a car easier to sell. And a sunroof is always a plus. If a prestige car doesn’t have all these sort of extras, that can greatly reduce its appeal and so have a serious negative impact on its value.

Taking all this into account, work out what a private buyer or dealer is likely to be willing to pay and, if you can, add 10% to allow for a bit of haggling. But also decide what’s the absolute minimum that you’d accept.

Should I Sell My Car On eBay?

    Published on August 3rd, 2010

Over the last few months, I ve spent countless hours researching the process of selling items online for a large project I ve been compiling. It s taught me that as much as I thought I knew about selling online, there s so much more that I have no clue about!

For example, a family member recently asked for my help selling an unneeded car on the internet. Sure! was my first thought. Heck, maybe I ll even use this as a case study! However, there s one major problem with this situation: I m completely ignorant when it comes to cars.

Actually, I shouldn t say completely ignorant. That s not correct. I m inexcusably ignorant when it comes to cars.

As a younger member of the male population of American society, I feel like I ve failed to inherit this basic knowledge that was supposed to written into my DNA. In fact, my inability to prioritize the maintenance and regular care of my own car is likely one of my biggest financial weaknesses. Maybe that s one reason I enjoyed our recent year without owning any vehicle at all!

Even with this blatant gap in knowledge, I actually have had some success selling cars online through Craigslist. Before we left for our year abroad, we sold both of our cars using their online classifieds. However, those were a couple of clunkers. If I remember correctly, we sold one for $1,000 and one for $2,000 after negotiations.

Because we were leaving, our priority was to just get our cars sold. We didn t want to give the cars away for free, but we weren t trying to squeeze out an extra 10% or additional $100. We were more concerned with not being stuck with a set of wheels parked in Indiana while our bodies were in New Zealand!

The situation with this car is different. The family member I m assisting doesn t need to sell the car he wants to sell the car. He has no delusions about getting top retail dollar, but is willing to take the time to obtain a fair private-party offer.

Plus, this isn t anything close to a clunker. It s a 2003 Honda Accord EX Coupe. It s been driven 150,000 miles, but still has only a few minor bumps, blemishes, or flaws. It runs very smoothly and has been taken care of by someone more responsible than me for the majority of its years!

Giving eBay Motors a fair shake

Normally, I d take the same approach with this car as I have with the others I ve sold. I d take plenty of photos, research the competition, and write a detailed description. I d present the price and the process for getting more information in a firm, but politely worded manner. I d then upload the info to Craigslist and wait for the phone to ring!

In other words, normally I would never give eBay a passing glance. I know that for the last few years they ve had some form of classified through what used to be Kijiji.com. but for one reason or another I never considered it a viable option. I ve also heard stories of people buying and selling cars through traditional eBay auctions (non-classified formats), but that process seems too risky and intimidating.

Recently, however, eBay has started a huge push on its newly re-branded classified section, eBayClassifieds.com. They re heavily promoting this, and they seem to be incorporating the classified listings much more fluidly with the general automobile searches for the main site. Classified listings within a certain distance (200 miles by default) are now included alongside the national listing in searches when logged into your eBay account.

In addition, constructing a classified ad in eBay has several benefits over its competitors. It s a more guided process, with eBay providing reminders and recommendations along the way. For example, they supply a fantastic, printable Sell Your Car Checklist [219kb PDF] to help gather everything you ll need to create a detailed listing. Currently, your first six classified ads in the eBay Motors section are free during a 12-month period.

The process of creating a classified ad to sell a car is so smooth that, for the first time, I m going to construct my classified ad in eBay first. I ll then take my description, pictures, and relevant details, and copy them into my trusty Craigslist format, as well. The more I research and tinker with eBay s classified section, the more I m starting to view this as a necessary part of giving the car adequate online exposure.

Step it up with a national auction?

Selling via a classified ad isn t the only way you can list your car on eBay. You also have the option to list it through the eBay Motors site under a standard auction format. With classifieds, you list your contact information and have to work out the details of the transaction with potential buyers (just as if you were listing on Craigslist). However, using eBay s standard auction format, interested parties from all of the U.S. can view and place bids on your vehicle, just like they would any other item on eBay.

Currently, eBay is allowing you to post your first four automobile auctions of this type for free, too. As long as you pass on all the extra upgrades and add-ons, you can create a national listing at any starting price for free. With this format, you can eliminate a lot of the grunt work that accompanies a classified listing. (Grunt work includes answering phone calls, negotiating, showing the car, etc )

So, I could simply list my car with a starting price equal to what I d normally offer in my classified ads. It s unlikely that I d get any bids, but as a free 7-day listing, it s hard to pass up taking a shot. I ll already be compiling the info for my classified ads, so it d only take an extra 15 minutes or so to upload the data into a standard auction of this type.

Is the extra 15 minutes worth taking an unlikely shot at selling my car outside of my local market? I m not sure. eBay will automatically compile and offer shipping options to someone who may want to have the car transported. These ranged from $300-$700 on some of the sample cars I looked through. Would someone actually pay that? Again, I m not sure.

Edmunds.com featured an article about a couple that sold cars online to people from all around the country. people who would fly in to inspect the cars. I like to keep a fairly open mind, but I just can t imagine someone wanting to buy plane tickets to come check out a potential car from across the country. (In the story, the couple even picked them up from the airport and made breakfast!)

    Deciding what to do

Many times when I write a post, I explore a topic I m experienced with. I look for areas where I ve had either success or failure that may be valuable if I were to share it. This isn t one of those posts.

On this topic, I m still clueless. I d actually like to know what you think! Have any of you bought or sold vehicles using eBay (either classified or standard listing formats)? Do you know anyone who has? Am I missing any huge gaps in my thought process? If you were in my shoes, what would you do to maximize the exposure for your car online?

I love Craigslist, but I m convinced I may be leaving money on the table if I don t seriously consider eBay for selling my car. If there s interest in this topic, I ll be sure to post a follow-up describing any successes or failures!

What Does My Home Insurance Cover?

En español | If your house is damaged by fire, it’s a pretty sure bet that your homeowners insurance policy will cover the cost to repair it. But what if the damage results from something less common, such as mold or a meteor falling from the sky? Chances are you’re also covered. Homeowners insurance policies vary, as do state laws, but typical policies cover many atypical claims. Here’s a look at five of the more unusual things for which your homeowners insurance should foot the bill.

    Dog bites

More than 4.7 million people are bitten by dogs each year, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, resulting in around 800,000 injuries that require medical attention. More than 50 percent of the bites occur on a dog owner’s property.

Dog bites are probably the single most common cause of liability claims on a homeowner’s policy, says Bill Wilson of the Independent Insurance Agents Brokers of America. The Insurance Information Institute (III) estimates that dog bites account for one-third of all liability claims.

According to Wilson, most homeowners insurance policies will cover the medical bills for someone bit by a dog — or a cat or snake or other domestic animal, for that matter — and even pay lost wages if the person can’t work. On a typical homeowner’s policy, liability coverage maxes out between $100,000 and $300,000. If you get sued and a judgment exceeds that amount, you’re on the hook for the difference. The III says the average dog bite claim totals about $25,000.

Annie Gamble was watching TV in her bedroom in St. Petersburg, Fla. when a tree crashed through her roof.

    Mold

For many homeowners, mold is a four-letter word that conjures up fears of illness and expensive cleanup. Indeed, the cost of mold remediation can run into the thousands of dollars. Whether your homeowners insurance policy will cover mold damage largely depends on the underlying cause of the mold.

In general, homeowners insurance will pay out for mold damage that’s a direct result of a peril that’s covered by your policy. Let’s say mold, which needs moisture to thrive, is caused by water from a burst pipe, a covered peril. In that case, any resulting mold damage should be covered because the source of the water is covered by your policy.

But if mold is due to long-term neglect or overdue maintenance, rather than a sudden and unexpected covered peril, then homeowners insurance is unlikely to cover the damage. Possible scenarios include excessive humidity in an attic, seepage into a basement or leaky pipes and appliances. You usually need separate flood insurance to cover damage from flooding.

Even if mold is covered, check to see if your policy caps damage at a certain amount. If so, it’s possible to buy additional coverage. Wilson says an extra $50,000 in mold coverage costs about $47 a year. The average annual premium for a homeowners insurance policy is $791, according to the III.

    Terrorism

Homeowners insurance typically excludes acts of war. The same blanket exclusion doesn’t hold true for acts of terrorism, which are more akin to a criminal act than an armed conflict. Wilson says insurers should cover damage due to explosion, fire and smoke resulting from a terrorist attack, even if terrorism isn’t specifically referenced in your homeowners policy.

For example, take the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. Residences near New York’s World Trade Center suffered blown windows and smoke damage. In that instance, those repairs were covered. Insured property losses from the 9/11 attacks totaled nearly $23 billion in 2009 dollars, estimates the III.

But coverage of a terrorist attack isn’t guaranteed since there’s little precedent in the United States save for 9/11. In the unlikely event that you ever need to file a terrorism-related claim, figure your home insurer will treat it on a case-by-case basis. Besides acts of war, typical homeowners policies don’t consider nuclear accidents a covered peril.

    Falling objects

A limb breaking off a tree during a storm. Debris dropping from an airplane passing high overhead. Even a meteor falling from the sky. If any of those objects damage your home, rest assured your homeowners insurance should cover the repairs up to your policy limits.

Keep in mind that while the hole in your roof is covered, any ensuing damage might not be unless you make reasonable efforts to prevent further damage. If it’s raining, for example, you should cover the hole with a tarp as soon as it’s safe to do so to prevent more water infiltration. Wilson suggests holding off on making permanent repairs until your insurance adjuster can assess the extent of the damage.

    Accidents outside the home

If someone gets hurt on your property, perhaps slipping on an icy stairwell, your homeowners policy should cover the medical bills. What you might not know is that your homeowners coverage can extend to injuries beyond the home, too.

Let’s say you’re at the grocery store, and you crash your shopping cart into another patron. Your homeowners insurance would cover the other person’s medical expenses. Same goes for the golf course and if you hit someone with a stray drive. As a bonus, coverage provided by a standard policy extends to anywhere in the world, not just to the United States.

Homeowners insurance excludes these types of claims related to use of a car, Wilson says. You need to rely on your auto insurance then. If you have a lot of assets to protect and you’re worried about getting sued, look into umbrella insurance. An umbrella policy kicks in when you exceed the liability limits of your home and auto policies.

How do I add a vehicle to my auto insurance policy?

The procedures of adding vehicles to auto insurance policies vary within each carrier. When adding vehicles, be prepared before contacting your carrier by having available information which will be needed such as; year, make and model, vehicle identification number (VIN), license plate number, odometer reading, estimated annual miles used per year, type of use (pleasure/commute/commercial) and coverage required.

Generally, insurers will have one of the following options of adding or even replacing/changing vehicles:

    • By Phone Some carriers will allow you to call in and request the change. Not all carriers allow this method but contact customer service to ask what procedure they require. If your carrier does allow the addition of your vehicle by phone, be prepared by having the above mentioned information.
    • By Mail Be cautious when using this method. Make sure to use this method only if instructed to do so by your carrier and verify that the address youre mailing the request to be correct and ask what information needs to be submitted. This method may delay your effective date of coverage and you may even run the risk of lost mail. It is suggested to try alternative methods of endorsements (change requests)
    • Online Some auto insurance company websites give insureds the option of making changes online. This most likely will require you to complete a questionnaire and input all vehicle information into the system. Be cautious about mistakes and incorrect data. It may be a good idea to contact the company afterwards to ensure accuracy and completion.
    • Through your agent If you purchased your policy through an agent, you may want to simply visit the agent to add your vehicle. Be sure to bring the vehicle registration with you and be prepared to answer their questions as mentioned above. If you purchased through a brokerage, you may want to ask if there are any additional brokers fees involved in the addition of your vehicle.

The most important thing is to make sure that you understand the coverage you are being issued and be sure to know when your coverage will become effective. Some changes will not be effective immediately so be aware and consider avoiding use of the vehicle until you receive confirmation of coverage.

Many policyholders assume that they have time to add their vehicle to their policy since coverage will extend to the newly acquired vehicle. This may be the case sometimes but not always; additionally, there are exceptions, conditions and exclusions to this guideline so never assume, contact your carrier to be 100 % sure and well informed.

Be sure to read our article for more information on making changes to an auto insurance policy for more details on the endorsement process and procedures.

Should I Sell My Car to Get Out of Debt Pay Off Bills?

    By David Quilty

How strong is your desire to get out of debt? What are you willing to give up, sell, or live without in order to meet that dream head on? Would you be inclined to sell your beloved car in order to bring your balance sheet back into the black? In many cases, selling your car and going without one, or replacing it with something cheaper, can be a great way to finally pay off your debt.

To help you make this decision, evaluate how much your car is really costing you. To do this, you must think beyond your monthly payment. Sure, your payment may only be $280 a month, but that doesn t include any associated costs like rising gas prices. car insurance. scheduled (and unscheduled) auto maintenance, and any parking permits or parking fees you have to pay for work or home. Depending on where you live and what you drive, this could add up to a small fortune every month.

Is that amount inhibiting you from paying off your debt? If so, consider selling your car. Or maybe trading in that money-pit would be the way to go for your finances. Whether or not this move makes sense will depend on your car, your habits, and your locale.

Questions to Ask Before Selling Your Car

    1. How Much Do You Spend on Gas, Insurance, and Maintenance?

All cars carry at least these three expenses. Some cars are gas guzzlers, while others prefer to sip (e.g. hybrid cars ), which means big savings for you at the pump. Insurance can also be significantly more expensive for, say, a red sports car compared to a Volvo station-wagon.

Maintenance is another expense that for some cars can be significantly higher than for others. For example, does your car need specialty dealer-made parts, or are off-brands available? Can you perform DIY car maintenance tips on your own? An analysis of these factors can help you determine how much your car is really costing you, and if it s worth giving up.

    2. Do You Still Owe Money on Your Car?

If you are only one year into a five-year payment plan, chances are that you owe way more on your vehicle than a buyer would be willing to pay for it (i.e. upside down car loan ). The minute you drive your new car off the dealer s lot, you lose thousands of dollars in value.

Find out how much your car is currently worth on a site like Kelley Blue Book or Edmunds. If you sold the car, could you pay off the balance directly out of the sales price? Or would you have to dig into your emergency savings to cover the remainder?

Or is the balance owed completely above and beyond your ability to pay? If you can t cover the remaining balance without borrowing more money, keep the car and continue to make payments. That said, keep tabs on the value of your car versus the balance on your loan. Once you can come close to breaking even, consider selling the car again.

    3. Do You Own Your Car Outright?

When you own your car outright (i.e. you have the title in hand), you can sell it for whatever the market will bear. If it s worth $5,000 and you sell it for that, will that make a serious dent in your debt? You need to weigh the reward you get from paying down or paying off your debt against what you give up by selling your car.

If you have an extra car that sits unused most of the time, or if you can carpool with your spouse, it might be well worth it. On the other hand, if you give up your only mode of transportation to work, it s probably a bad idea to sell your car.

    4. Do You Even Need a Car?

Most New Yorkers can live without a car due to the high quality public transportation system, the walkable commutes, the bike lanes to ride your bike to work. and the constant availability of taxi cabs. Los Angeles residents, on the other hand,   find it difficult to get anywhere without their own car because the city is so spread out and public transportation is only available in select areas.

If you live and work in a city that encourages residents to be vehicle-free, why not try it out for a while? And if you still occasionally need a car, check and see if your area has any car-sharing services. These services rent cars by the hour or day and include gas, insurance, and maintenance for a very reasonable price.

    5. If You Still Need a Car, Can You Afford a Cheaper One?

Let s say you sell your car and put the money towards your debt, but you still need a car. Can you afford a smaller, less expensive vehicle using the monthly interest you ve saved by paying down your debt? If you d have to borrow money to buy a car again, think twice before selling the one you already own. But if you can sell your car, are able to pay off some debt with the proceeds, and can still afford to pay cash for a cheaper car, then definitely consider selling.

    6. What About Lifestyle Considerations?

You don t want to find out too late that you needed the gas-guzzling Suburban and can t get along without it. For example, do you enjoy carting your daughter s entire soccer team, plus gear, to various games and events? Or, do you otherwise need to transport large loads that a 45 mpg vehicle just can t handle? In addition to expenses, examine how you use your car and how or if you could live without it, or with something different.

    Should My Winnings Go to a New a Car? #repossessed #cars #for #sale

    #what car should i buy
    #

Congratulations on winning your court case, but to answer your question, let me pose a few of my own because deciding whether to get a new car is a process that begins with evaluating your needs and budget. Many people don’t consider that the cost of an auto includes maintenance, payments (if you borrow money), repairs, gas, oil, tags, taxes, and insurance and that shouldn’t exceed 15 percent of your net spendable income.

Yes, I want Breaking Christian News Submit

    So consider this:

    * Are your employed? Do you need your car for work or is public transportation or ride sharing a realistic option?

    * What is the mileage and overall condition of you present car? Do you have reason to believe that a costly problem is on the horizon? Is it possible your present car can be repaired and continue for more years with only basic maintenance?

    * Do you have an emergency savings account?

    * Do you have any debt?

Especially when you receive a little extra money, you should evaluate some of your larger goals dealing with money. This can be the time to replace things like a bad refrigerator or for paying off expensive consumer debt.

But before you do any of that, Crown recommends that you first give to support your church and ministries you appreciate. Following that, fully fund an emergency savings account because as your court case may show, the unexpected can happen. If you don’t have an emergency fund, begin by saving $1,000. After that, depending on your salary, build towards a minimum of one full month’s salary set aside for emergencies.

Proverbs 21: 20 says, The wise man saves for the future, but the foolish man spends whatever he gets.” (TLB)

Once you have accomplished these two important steps in the use of your court award, if you need your car to get to work and make a living, use the balance to purchase a quality used car that you can buy with cash. Your car is an important tool for your use that can’t be cut out of a working budget. By the way, the best investment I ever made on a used car was one I purchased for $800. I drove it for two years with almost no maintenance costs and then sold it for $800.

Take the time to have a mechanic check over any used car that you like. At Crown we’ve found that “monthly repairs for the typical American car on the road (approximately seven years old) run about 5 percent of a family’s budget. A new car takes about 15 percent of the family’s budget. Compare 5 percent per month for maintenance on an older car to about 15 percent to buy a new car no contest.”

Even though you may think that better gas mileage justifies the cost of a new car, some new cars would have to be driven for more than 7 years to reap the savings from lower gas usage. As a practical matter, a car is an expense, but a necessary one for most of us. So with all of that in mind, I hope you can make a wise choice. Let me know if you need more input and thanks for asking!

What is my car worth? How WeWantAnyCar value your car #car #registrations

#how much is my car worth free
    #

    How We Value Your Car

Step 1: We ask you to confirm that the car we have found is indeed your car.

Step 2: If you have any additional specification, e.g. Leather, Satellite Navigation etc. fitted to your car then we ask you to tick the appropriate boxes.

If this is fully up to date and completed by a VAT registered dealer than it is fair to assume the value of your car will be higher than a car with only a partial service history.

    MOT

A vehicle with full MOT is more valuable than a vehicle with no MOT. If your vehicle has failed an MOT then it will require some work to make the car road worthy again; the level of work required to convert this to a pass will affect your final valuation.

    Colour & Condition

Some colours are more popular and desirable than others. This can have a slight impact on the valuation we provide.

    Insurance Write Off

If your vehicle has been involved in a vehicle collision you may be informed by the insurance company that the car is a write off. Essentially this terms means that the vehicle is beyond economical repair. This most certainly will affect the value we provide. Please note that we perform a HPI on every vehicle we purchase and this report clearly indicates to us whether the vehicle has been involved in any insurance claims.

Step 4: If the vehicle has any damage then you are able to use this form to select the damaged area and type of area.

How can I convert an Oracle dump file into SQL Server? Database Administrators Stack Exchange #my #sql #dump

    #

I want to ask about converting Oracle dump files ( .dmp ) into SQL Server files ( .bak ) where during conversion I don’t have to be connected to any database server.

I’ve searched for related technologies, such as Oradump to SQL Server. Do you have another suggestion to solve this? Open source ones I mean.

Thanks for both of your response. I see how difficult it will, but is there any possibility to use another way in converting oracle dump file? because all of solution’s converter tools always provide a connection database server. I’m so thankful what if you can suggest another tool. thanks anyway

    asked Apr 16 ’13 at 2:32

    migrated from stackoverflow.com Apr 16 ’13 at 6:13

This question came from our site for professional and enthusiast programmers.

I am fairly certain this is totally impossible. Nick.McDermaid Apr 16 ’13 at 3:37

You should consider a different way of transferring this data as you will never find a tool that can do this. Nick.McDermaid Apr 16 ’13 at 3:37

    I consider this impossible, because:

    • Both formats have no public documentation available AFAIK.
    • The Oracle Dump is a logical format, all objects (Tables, Stores Procedures, Rows, etc.pp.) are contained seperated and can be imported individually by import options, e.g. only Tables, but no data.
    • The MS SQL BAK basically contains just the used blocks of the datafiles, not seperated at all into the different type of objects contained, and there you can restore a database file as a whole (including all tables, all data, all everything), not individual single elements.

So a tool capable of doing the requested would not only have to deal with the “usual stuff” like different datatypes and SQL features with all the subtle differences, it would as well have to transform an apple into an orange formatwise.

    answered Apr 16 ’13 at 8:36

Although Oracle doesn’t publish the format of dump files, the more recent ones created by Data Pump utility (expdp versus the older exp command) are in XML format. But I agree with earlier responses: it’s probably not worth the R D effort. Depending on the size, you may be able to import into the free version of Oracle called Express Edition (XE). It has an 11GB maximum limit but is a free download. Once it’s imported, you can use SQL Server SSIS to connect to Oracle and transfer the data.

    answered Apr 18 ’13 at 3:33

You can simply use: OraDump to MSSQL, which is a powerful paid tool: OraDump This tool will simply read your dump file, create the database structure on SQLServer (Empty Database, or old existing with the same structure), then it will import all data to it. it was very helpful for me in fact.

    answered Oct 10 ’13 at 19:58

Perhaps you could add some further details about the product you suggested. Perhaps how to perform the task in question, or why this tools works well, etc. something more than just the link. Max Vernon Oct 11 ’13 at 1:57

I realize this post is over a year old, but there is a tool called OraDump-to-MSSQL by Intelligent Converters that will at least take an Oracle dump file and import it in to an MSSQL database. You do have to have the MSSQL server up and running but it will import in to a SQL Server Express database which is free to download and install. You can get the tool here http://www.convert-in.com/ord2mss.htm. It’s $79 which is cheap.

That Time Mazda Paid A Handsome French Doctor To Feel My Balls

Anyone who’s fortunate enough to stumble into the world of car writing quickly discovers that it’s the greatest grift in human history, a virtually non-stop travel orgy of luxury hotels, business-class airline travel, open bars with premium Scotch, foie gras, steaks, little toasts with cr me fraiche and salmon, champagne pours, free leather driving shoes and race-team jackets, unlimited access to the most glamorous and powerful cars in the world, and once, in my case, a testicular exam in Paris.

All the industry asks for in return is our integrity. Most of the people who practice automotive journalism, the world’s oldest profession, are readily willing to give up their professional honor because they make about as much money every year as the average Dunkin’ Donuts shift manager.

Still, for some, mere Platinum status on Delta isn’t enough. A while ago, a thread on the Facebook page of Dan Neil, the Pulitzer-Prize-winning car writer, told of the European car hack who walked out of his luxury hotel, which he didn’t pay for, carrying a flat-screen TV; of the archetypal guy who emptied his mini-bar three nights running; of the dude who stuffed fireplace-stoking equipment into his golf bag and said “charge it to my tab;” of hundreds of dollars worth of unauthorized luxury spa treatments; or, best of all, of the Scottish journalist who produced a 17-page printout of all the porn he’d watched in a Korean hotel room over the course of three days, causing him to be nicknamed “Mince,” because that’s what happens when you wear the skin off a sausage.

    Get the IP address of the machine – Stack Overflow #how #to #get #my #internet #ip #address

    #

This Question is almost the same as the previously asked Get the IP Address of local computer -Question. However I need to find the IP address(es) of a Linux Machine .

So: How do I – programmatically in C++ – detect the IP addresses of the linux server my application is running on. The servers will have at least two IP addresses and I need a specific one (the one in a given network (the public one)).

I’m sure there is a simple function to do that – but where?

To make things a bit clearer:

    • The server will obviously have the “localhost”: 127.0.0.1
    • The server will have an internal (management) IP address: 172.16.x.x
    • The server will have an external (public) IP address: 80.190.x.x

I need to find the external IP address to bind my application to it. Obviously I can also bind to INADDR_ANY (and actually that’s what I do at the moment). I would prefer to detect the public address, though.

    asked Oct 17 ’08 at 15:00

I like jjvainio’s answer. As Zan Lnyx says, it uses the local routing table to find the IP address of the ethernet interface that would be used for a connection to a specific external host. By using a connected UDP socket, you can get the information without actually sending any packets. The approach requires that you choose a specific external host. Most of the time, any well-known public IP should do the trick. I like Google’s public DNS server address 8.8.8.8 for this purpose, but there may be times you’d want to choose a different external host IP. Here is some code that illustrates the full approach.

    answered Jun 25 ’10 at 18:15

I do not think there is a definitive right answer to your question. Instead there is a big bundle of ways how to get close to what you wish. Hence I will provide some hints how to get it done.

If a machine has more than 2 interfaces ( lo counts as one) you will have problems to autodetect the right interface easily. Here are some recipes on how to do it.

The problem, for example, is if hosts are in a DMZ behind a NAT firewall which changes the public IP into some private IP and forwards the requests. Your machine may have 10 interfaces, but only one corresponds to the public one.

Even autodetection does not work in case you are on double-NAT, where your firewall even translates the source-IP into something completely different. So you cannot even be sure, that the default route leads to your interface with a public interface.

Detect it via the default route

This is my recommended way to autodetect things

Something like ip r get 1.1.1.1 usually tells you the interface which has the default route.

If you want to recreate this in your favourite scripting/programming language, use strace ip r get 1.1.1.1 and follow the yellow brick road.

    Set it with /etc/hosts

This is my recommendation if you want to stay in control

You can create an entry in /etc/hosts like

Then you can use this alias publicinterfaceip to refer to your public interface.

Sadly haproxy does not grok this trick with IPv6

    Use the environment

This is a good workaround for /etc/hosts in case you are not root

Same as /etc/hosts. but use the environment for this. You can try /etc/profile or

    /.profile for this.

Hence if your program needs a variable MYPUBLICIP then you can include code like (this is C, feel free to create C++ from it):

So you can call your script/program /path/to/your/script like this

this even works in crontab .

Enumerate all interfaces and eliminate those you do not want

The desperate way if you cannot use ip

If you do know what you do not want, you can enumerate all interfaces and ignore all the false ones.

Here already seems to be an answer https://stackoverflow.com/a/265978/490291 for this approach.

    Do it like DLNA

The way of the drunken man who tries to drown himself in alcohol

You can try to enumerate all the UPnP gateways on your network and this way find out a proper route for some “external” thing. This even might be on a route where your default route does not point to.

This gives you a good impression which one is your real public interface, even if your default route points elsewhere.

    There are even more

Where the mountain meets the prophet

IPv6 routers advertise themselves to give you the right IPv6 prefix. Looking at the prefix gives you a hint about if it has some internal IP or a global one.

You can listen for IGMP or IBGP frames to find out some suitable gateway.

There are less than 2^32 IP addresses. Hence it does not take long on a LAN to just ping them all. This gives you a statistical hint on where the majority of the Internet is located from your point of view. However you should be a bit more sensible than the famous https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/SQL_Slammer

ICMP and even ARP are good sources for network sideband information. It might help you out as well.

You can use Ethernet Broadcast address to contact to all your network infrastructure devices which often will help out, like DHCP (even DHCPv6) and so on.

This additional list is probably endless and always incomplete, because every manufacturer of network devices is busily inventing new security holes on how to auto-detect their own devices. Which often helps a lot on how to detect some public interface where there shouln’t be one.

As the question specifies Linux, my favourite technique for discovering the IP-addresses of a machine is to use netlink. By creating a netlink socket of the protocol NETLINK_ROUTE, and sending an RTM_GETADDR, your application will received a message(s) containing all available IP addresses. An example is provided here.

In order to simply parts of the message handling, libmnl is convenient. If you are curios in figuring out more about the different options of NETLINK_ROUTE (and how they are parsed), the best source is the source code of iproute2 (especially the monitor application) as well as the receive functions in the kernel. The man page of rtnetlink also contains useful information.

Book values – What is my book worth? #used #vehicle #values

Book value: How much is your book worth?

The easiest way to know how much your copy of a book is worth on the open market is to check on how much similar copies are currently being offered for.

Fill out this form with enough information to get a list of comparable copies.

You probably don’t need to include every word of the title and author’s name. A couple of words from the title, and the author’s last name are generally enough to get a list of matches. Filling out too much can cause you to miss a copy that was listed slightly differently from what you are using

You can narrow down the search results by selecting the filters in the search results to see only Hardcovers, First Editions, Signed Copies, etc.

    Search for current book prices

Hardcover First edition Signed Find Books

A few things to keep in mind:

    1. Condition means everything in a book’s value. A book that has significant damage is likely not worth much. A book collector wants an attractive copy.
    2. Dust jackets. Most hard cover books published since the early 20th century were sold with a dust jacket. The dust jacket is both the most decorative part of a book, and the most delicate. A missing dust jacket, or a dust jacket that is in poor condition, can cut a collectible book’s value more than 50%, and make it harder to find a buyer.
    3. Make sure that the copy you have matches the copy that is being offered. There are a number of ways that a book may, at first glance, look to be a rare collectible, but upon closer examination doesn’t match up.
      • Reprint editions. Some publishers specialized in reprinting popular works in affordable reprint editions. Publishers such as Walter J. Black, Sun Dial, Triangle, Collier, A.L. Burt, and Grosset Dunlop, to name just a few, would use the printing plates from the original publisher and reprint works long after their popularity was established. One way to check if your copy is a reprint is to compare the name of the publisher on the book’s spine to the name of the publisher on the title page. Reprints will often have the original publisher’s name on the pages in the book, but the book binding will identify the name of the reprint publisher.
      • Later printings: Publishers don’t use any standardized systems for identifying a first edition. Each publisher uses their own individual system to state a first printing of a book. Even the words ‘First Edition’ aren’t a guarantee. Publishers will sometimes forget to remove the ‘First Edition’ words from the printing history as they go into subsequent printings, and the number line is the only way that you can really know that your copy is a first edition.

Adding to the confusion, publishers will often change the way that they identify first editions. You can buy a guide to identifying first editions to make some sense of the confusion.

  • Book Club Editions Book of the month clubs often use the same printing plates as the original publisher, right down to the words “First Edition” on the printing history. You can find detailed help on identifying book club editions here .
  • Supply vs. Demand Too many comparable copies currently for sale may indicate a glut in the market. It’s harder to sell a book if you have too much competition, and prices for that book tend to start going down.
  • Check the range: get an idea of the full range of similar copies currently offered. Don’t just settle on the lowest or highest price for comparison.
  • If you’re unable to find a comparable copy on Biblio. try using BookGilt which searches for antiquarian and rare books across the entire internet.

If you do decide to sell your copy. it may be months, or even years before the right collector comes along.

You might decide to offer your copy to a reputable local bookseller instead of selling it on your own. A professional bookseller can give you an immediate fair offer for your book, but their price will need to factor in the profit they need to run their business, so don’t be surprised to be offered 1/4 of the average retail. Their offer will figure in their costs and the time that they expect to have it in their stock before a buyer comes along.

    Author Bio:

Stephen Bakes was born into books as the child of librarian parents. He worked in bookstores new and used for more than a decade before moving to the internet side of the book business in 2005.

    “My Darling” lyrics

    Eminem Lyrics

    [Verse 1]
If I woulda rap about the crap that’s out
That’s the route you probably want me to take
Cause you’re just dyin’ to know what I think
And my take on some other rappers
If I was to say something about Paul Wall, you’d probably crap in your
Pants, cause I’m white, and he’s white, so he’s like
    My competition I mean, right?
    Nope, Paul Wall is dope
    And so’s Bubba, so BLALALALAPFFTTTTT
    B-b-b-b-b-but, I don’t compete with nobody
I just go hard, do the rope-a-dope Ali
Shuffle, and dance around my opponents, do donuts
Sometime’s I just play possom, Like I’m asleep that’s awesome
I’m like a sleeping Giant, and when I awake I’m like Dre
I just jump from outta nowhere and bite Prey
Sink my teeth in him and fill him, full of poison
And make a noise like snake before I kill him
And let him know that I just don’t feel him
And smack him with the backward E, the Eminem emblem
Always thought if you was gonna murder somebody you should face em
Tell em why, look them dead in the eye, then waste em
And the dark shall emerge from the fiery depths of hell
And swallow the shell of the hollow who dwell
And the shadows of all who are willing to sell
Their souls, for this rap game, and it g-g-goes
123, 123, 123, that ain’t the hook, now follow me
There’s nothing else for me to say, my public adores me
Everybody bores me, they’re just so corny
So at night before I sleep, I look in the mirror
The mirror grows lips and it whispers Come nearer

    [Chorus]
My Darling, I don’t ever want you to leave me
My Darling, you and me were meant to be together
My Darling, And if I cannot have you, no one can, you’re my
My Darling, cause I possess your soul, your mind, your heart and your body

I don’t ever want you to leave me
My Darling, you and me were meant to be together
My Darling, And if I cannot have you, no one can, you’re my
My Darling, cause I possess your soul, your mind, your heart and your body

    [Verse 2]
Shady, I know you’re in there, so where? Come here
Talk to me, sit here, pull up a chair
Why don’t you cut your hair? Hahahahaha
Dye it back, come on, try it AHHHHHHHHH
No, I told you, leave me the fuck alone will you?
But I’m here to rebuild you , But I already killed you!
But Shady, we were meant for eachother
Think about your mother , yeah so what of her?
Well think about what she did to you and your little brother
All them foster homes. , fuck you motherfucker!
I had you beat No I was playin’ possom, remember?
I let you watch your little girls blossom
I gave you enough time, your souls mine
I’m taking it back , you fucking bitch WHY!
Because I love you, look a little closer
Isn’t that us on that poster? haha

    [Verse 3]
Shady, listen. SHADY! , you hear that?
They’re screaming for you, I can bring your career back
But I don’t want it back! Yes you do.
No I don’t! Yes you do, you’re gonna regret it later!
No I won’t! I’ma get Dre on the phone, I’ll just call the doctor
Go ahead, I already talked to, Dre yesterday
Well I got him on the phone right now!
You’re lying, yo slim , HOW, WHY NOW!
Whatup Dre? Check this out Slim, I gotta talk to ya
I don’t know, it just seems every since you got off ya
Drugs, you became a lot softer
But Dre, all Shady is is a bottle of hair bleach and vodka
Well, just think about it Slim, I’m here
Just hit me back, and let me know what’s up
    Fuck this mirror! AHHHHHHH
I’m not in the mirror, I’m inside you, let me guide you
Fuck you, die you son of a bitch
Put the gun down , BYE BYE!
Ok I’m still alive, So am I too!
You can’t kill a spirit, even if you tried to
Haha, you sold your soul to me, need I remind you?
You remember that night you, prayed to god
You’d give anything to get a record deal, well Dre signed you
This is what you wanted your whole life Marshall, right through
Look at this house, look at these cars, I’m so nice, wooo!
Oh, but you didn’t know, fame has a price too
That you’re just now seeing the downside to
Lose your best friend from highschool, your wife too
Ain’t even sure if your kids like you
Come off tour, can’t even sleep at night without Nyquill
Become a valium addict, start a rehab cycle
But together we can break the cycle
Marshall. WHAT! no one’s gonna love you like I do!

I said, I don’t ever want you to leave me
My Darling, you and me were meant to be together

What Is The Going Rate For Junk Cars in 2014?

What Is The Going Rate For Junk Cars in 2014?

What is the going rate of junk cars in 2014?

What is the going rate for junk cars and what can you expect to get in terms of cash for junk cars. Good question. Getting rid of your junk car isn t a complicated process, but determining how much it is worth can be a little confusing. Unfortunately, there is no one-shot formula for appraising a vehicle s value, but all appraisals, at least from many salvage companies, have these factors in common:

It s with these factors that appraisers will estimate the value of your vehicle, which ultimately determines what they can pay you for your junk car. Generally, the price range for junk vehicles is anywhere from $200 to $400, but amounts vary depending on the factors listed about above.

Keep reading to see why and how prices are determined!

Determining the true value of your junk car

Any junk car, even those that have one or more components that make them unsuitable for driving, is worth something. That s why you need to figure out its true value before proceeding to, well, the selling part.

The sales value of a junk car is more or less based off of its current market value for that same vehicle in used condition, with a catch. The amount you will receive for a junk vehicle is based loosely off its diminished value, which is based off the total cost of repairs that may make the vehicle a working vehicle again, along with the market value for the same car.

One of the most important things you need to do before selling your junk car is finding how much that junk car costs. The true value of your junk car essentially determines how much you can get out of the vehicle. After all, you don t want to sell your junk car and later discover you didn t get as much as you could out of the car.

After you determine the value of you vehicle, you can start shopping around for appropriate junk car salvaging companies — and we re glad to help anyone who is interested in using our service.

So, how do you get the most for your car?

According to Kelley Blue Book, most salvage cars cost as much as 20 to 40 percent of a car s used value, but again, certain factors also play a role in determining the going rate. Where the vehicle is located, the condition of the car, what year/make/model it is, and the current price of scrap all play a major role in creating an accurate appraisal.

Here s a breakdown of how these factors play a role in your determining your car s junk value:

    • Location Where you live plays a huge role in what you re able to receive for a junk car. Your proximity to a salvage yard and regional price of scrap play a role in how much you can receive for your vehicle. The popularity of certain vehicles in an area may also affect how much money you are able to make, as certain junkyards will pay more for specific models.
    • Year/Make/Model While there are still many older vehicles on the road today, the demand for parts is not always consistent. For example, hundreds of people still drive Dodge Neons. but the demand for those parts is relatively low, because most of the Neons that are taken off the road are truly at the end of their life. Another thing to consider is how cars change from year to year, and as vehicles become more fuel efficient and environmentally friendly, more plastic may be integrated into the bodies, which decreases the metal weight.
    • Condition This is pretty simple to understand, but it s worth mentioning. If you are driving a pristine, clean, and smooth running junk car, you re more likely to get a little more cash for it. If you re really driving a rusty clunker, then it s going to be bought for its scrap value, rather than the value of its parts.
    • Current Price of Scrap This is probably the most important factor in how much you receive for your junk car, if only because most salvage companies are buying vehicles for the metal value, rather than the parts. If the price of scrap is down, generally you will not be able to receive a high payout for your vehicle, even if it is in generally good condition.

These factors are not the end-all for determining your junk vehicle s value. With some vehicles, you can potentially get even more depending on the individual components. What we mean is that sometimes the components of a working vehicle can make you more cash than an equivalent junk car that isn t working. Keeping all of this in mind, it s important to do your research before selling your junk car, so you can receive the best price possible.

Vehicle Valuations – My Wheels #cars

    Vehicle Valuations

MyWheels.ie have teamed up with motor industry experts Motor Trade Publishers to provide vehicle valuations on the vehicle reports. Motor Trade Publishers are responsible for producing the industry’s most respected trade valuation tool “The Car Sales Guide”, and have been doing so since 1967. Their experience and expertise best equips them with the required knowledge to provide you with the most accurate valuations for your vehicle. Their values are used by the Revenue Commissioners, motor dealers, insurance companies, finance houses, fleet companies and auctioneers across the country. Motor Trade Publishers carry out extensive market research on a weekly basis and their values are updated monthly to ensure valuations are constantly kept up to date by Ireland’s most prominent motor industry analysts.

Why provide a range and not an exact value?

MyWheels.ie and Motor Trade Publishers recognise that no two cars are the same and therefore values will differ depending on a number of mitigating factors. Everything from mileage to varying levels of specification, seller type, condition and optional extras all need to be considered when valuing a used car. Even geographical locations have an influence on residual values. For these reasons a valuation range provides a far broader spectrum of the likely selling prices of a particular vehicle and gives the buyer a better indication of the type of deal being offered.

     What do the values mean?

The values should be considered as a “From/To” range rather than a “Low/High” value spread. The figures themselves are the likely selling prices of a vehicle from a dealership i.e. the final purchase price of the vehicle. They do not represent asking prices, trade in allowances, private sales or any other subjective values.

Why are some dealer values higher or lower than the valuation range?

Dealer values are directly influenced not just by the exact model for sale but the circumstances in which it is being sold. For instance, a vehicle with a full service history, low mileage, high specification retailing from a main dealer offering warranty may be entitled to attract a higher price tag while the opposite can result in drastically lower values. Again, the range has been designed to capture the broadest number of vehicles in any given model purchased from a motor dealer.

    Is mileage taken into consideration?

Motor Trade Publishers’ values are updated monthly and take into consideration the average mileage of vehicles at a particular point in the year. The following table* should serve as a workable guide but is subject to change depending on market trends e.g. the rising popularity of diesel vehicles in urban centres results in a reduced average annual mileage for some diesel models.

*As per the Car Sales Guide figures in March 2015.

Calculate the diminished value of my car after an accident? #car #value

How do I calculate the diminished value of my car after an accident?

You might be entitled to recover “diminished value” from the at-fault driver (or from his or her car insurance company) as part of your compensable damages after a car accident, as long as your car has been significantly damaged and is a newer model.

    Question:

How do I calculate the diminished value of my car after an accident?

    Answer:

In the context of a car accident case, “diminished value ” refers to the difference between what your car was worth before the crash occurred, and what it is worth after it has been repaired.

The rationale behind a diminished value claim is that on the free market, someone who wanted to buy your car would probably be willing to pay less after the vehicle has been in an accident than they would have paid had the accident not occurred, even though the car has been repaired.

You might be entitled to recover “diminished value” from the at-fault driver  (or from his or her car insurance company) as part of your compensable damages after a car accident, as long as your car has been significantly damaged and is a newer model. For a minor accident, or any crash involving an older car, you’re probably not going to be successful in making a diminished value claim.

To calculate the diminished value of your car, you may need to retain an expert witness, or at least obtain reliable inspection and repair reports from professionals — people who can examine your car and offer an opinion on the impact that the vehicle damage  and subsequent repairs have had on its value.

In some diminished value claims, part of your argument may be that inferior parts were used to repair your vehicle, and if your car had not been in the accident in the first place, it would still have all factory parts installed, and it would not have lost value.

How Are the Value of My Car and the Cost of Repair Determined?

    Info

There are several standard guidelines for determining the value of your car for insurance purposes. You and your insurer can refer to the Blue Book, which lists the depreciated value of all new and used cars. One Blue Book is published by the National Association of Automobile Dealers (NADA) at http://www.nada.com. The other is published by Kelley Blue Book of Irvine, California, at http://www.kbb.com.

When you file your claim, your insurance company will refer you to a claims adjuster. The adjuster will verify the loss and determine what it will cost to repair the car. The adjuster’s estimate can serve as a benchmark to compare your own mechanic’s estimate.

No good adjuster or insurance company will expect you to sign an agreement accepting the insurer’s estimate as the total claim payment until you’ve established, to your satisfaction, that it will cover the cost of repair. The insurer will expect you to get your own estimate from your mechanic, garage, or car dealer. Don’t allow yourself to feel pressured into accepting the insurer’s estimate of repair costs without getting at least one estimate of your own.

Your insurance company can’t require you to have repairs done at a particular shop. But they can insist that you get more than one estimate for the work to be done on your car. Just as you want to make sure that your car is adequately repaired, the insurer wants to make sure it doesn’t pay a grossly inflated repair bill.

Don’t be surprised if your insurance company opts to pay for the lowest bid. You don’t have to accept that bid if you believe the low bid won’t adequately repair your car. Don’t hesitate to argue with the adjuster if you really believe his repair estimate is too low based on what your mechanic has told you.

One factor that could reduce the amount of your claim for a repair job is what insurance companies call betterment. If your old car is repaired with brand-new parts, your insurer may argue that the repairs have actually enhanced the car’s value and therefore they can legitimately reduce your claim by the difference between a used part and a new one.

It’s up to your insurer to decide whether to pay for repairing your car or to declare it a total loss and pay you its book value. Most standard auto policies will not pay to repair a vehicle if the repairs cost more than the cash value assigned to the car. There won’t be any dispute about whether to repair the car if it was completely totaled. But you may argue about what the pieces of the car were worth when they were assembled as a car. For you to get a settlement higher than the Blue Book value of your car’s make and model, you will have to submit evidence such as mileage records, service history, and affidavits from mechanics to show that your car was worth more. You’re entitled to the market price of the car you just lost. You shouldn’t get more or less than what you are due.

Next question: What are my rights when filing a claim?

    Sell my Car

Nobody likes selling their car. Sometimes you ll be doing it because you re in urgent financial need or otherwise you re selling it because it s on its last legs and you need the money from the sale to fund the purchase of a new car. In the circumstances, the last thing you need is for it to take for ever to get some money for it but this is exactly how traditional methods of selling your car worked. Placing a sign in the window was always a long shot and the odds of anyone buying it within a few weeks are low. Similarly, putting an ad in auto trader or other car classifieds where the number of sellers far outweighs the number of buyers is bound to lead to a to a bad price – it s a question of supply and demand.

This is where car buying services come in. Not only do they guarantee a sale instantly (usually inspected and processed within a week of you entering your car registration number in the box above) but they offer a standardised price that is the same nation wide meaning you won t be taken advantage of by an unscrupulous used car dealer whose prices may have as much to do with how he feels that day as the value of the car. Once you ve entered your licence number we will use it look at all the details of the car and ask you a few additional questions about what condition it is in overall before sending you a quote by email.

This quote is entirely obligation free and once you have received it you may either end the process there or choose to accept it and get rid of your car for that price within just a few days. The next step after that is simply to set an appointment with us as soon as possible when we will check the car is as you have described and then send the cash to your bank account immediately. If you want to make sure it arrives in your account the same day this is also possible for a small fee.

Another service we offer is the opportunity for you to sell your car while it is still subject to a finance arrangement. This involves us offering you a quote on your car and then paying off the finance arrangement that you have agreed with some of the money from the sale, and forwarding you the difference. Sometimes this is a slower way of doing things than simply borrowing the money to pay it off yourself but this is not possible for everyone making our process the only way we know of that you can legally sell your car while still on finance.

Once you ve brought your car in for the appointment along with all the necessary documents (your log book, photo id, possibly marriage certificate, two proofs of address) the only thing that remains for you to do is to get some sort of transport home and then wait for the money to arrive in your bank.
