about used cars

If you’ve come here looking for a used or certified pre-owned car, truck, SUV, crossover, hatchback, hybrid or convertible, then you’re in the right place. Edmunds has everything you need to know about buying or selling a used vehicle, including Carfax vehicle history reports, dealership listings and pricing information, expert car reviews, consumer car reviews, car dealership reviews, car price comparisons, car appraisal calculators, images and videos, technical features and specs, user forums and more.

At Edmunds, you’ll be able to browse thousands of used cars, trucks and SUVs for sale with special offers, appraise your current car, and research the car, SUV or truck of your dreams. You can limit your search to certified pre-owned (or CPO) vehicles for sale and be a click away from articles by our experts that will give you the best car shopping and buying tips and advice. Let’s take a closer look at each of these aids to easier used-car shopping.

The INVENTORY tab at the top of the page allows you to browse used cars for sale from popular makes such as Ford, Honda, Toyota, Chevrolet, Hyundai, Infiniti, Acura and Subaru. The inventory tool allows you to cast a much wider net than simply visiting your local dealership’s website. Start with the make and model of the vehicle that you’re interested in. You’ll have the option to refine your search by price, distance, model year and mileage. If you’re looking for specific options or features, a certain trim level or a specific color, there are more advanced search filters available, including engine type, fuel type, drivetrain, powertrain, airbags, air-conditioning and much more. After you find the car, SUV, truck or hybrid that you’re interested in, select the listing to check out the VIN details page for that vehicle and get more information. There you’ll find a description of the vehicle from the dealer, vehicle features and options, contact information for that dealership, dealer reviews, a ballpark insurance estimate, and a link to see a Carfax vehicle history report.

The APPRAISE tab at the top of the page lets you enter your car’s basic information, odometer reading, trim level, and overall condition. Then Edmunds provides you with the True Market Value (TMV) for your used car or vehicle. Edmunds’s True Market Value or used car value is is a great starting point for negotiation of a used-car sale between a private buyer and seller. This is an “as is” value that does not include any warranties. The final sales price depends on the car’s actual condition and local market factors. You can use this used car value estimate to price your car for sale or to negotiate a trade-in for a new, CPO, or previously owned car for sale from a local dealer. The used car value estimate is also useful for assessing retail pricing at a car dealer. You can try it out by clicking the “APPRAISE” tab, above. Once you enter your vehicle details, you will receive three estimates for your used car’s value: “Trade-in” is what you can expect a dealer to offer you for your used car; “Private Party” is what you might expect to earn if you sold the pre-owned vehicle yourself; and “Dealer Retail” is what you might expect to pay if you were buying this used model used at a dealership. If the vehicle is new enough, you’ll also see a price that says “Certified Used Price.” This price estimates what the dealership might sell it for as a certified pre-owned vehicle.

The RESEARCH tab points you to our expert analysis of the make and model of the car you select. You can read our editors’ reviews and learn about each generation of the vehicle you’re interested in. From there, you can narrow the focus of your car buying research by selecting a particular model year and learning more by checking out photos of the cars, researching local dealership listings, car valuation, consumer reviews, editors’ reviews, pros & cons, features & specs, and safety information. That’s a world of information. And we’ve put it all right at your fingertips.

Are you thinking about trading in your vehicle at the dealership or selling it yourself? Find out what your used car is worth with our True Market Value appraisal tool. Enter the year, make and model to get started. Make sure you know the options on your vehicle and the current odometer reading. Be honest about the condition level. Most cars will fall in the “average” to “clean” range.

The appraisal tool will give you three prices: “Trade-in” is what you can expect a dealer to offer you. “Private Party” is what you might expect to earn if you sold the vehicle yourself. “Dealer Retail” is what you might expect to pay if you were buying this model used at a dealership. If the vehicle is new enough, you’ll also see a price that says “Certified Used Price.” This price estimates what the dealer might sell it for as a CPO vehicle.

If you are hesitant about buying a traditional used car, you may want to consider a certified pre-owned vehicle. These vehicles tend to be newer, have gone through a more detailed inspection process and come with a limited warranty. The Edmunds inventory tool will have an option to sort the list to show only CPO vehicles. You can also go directly to the CPO cars page.

Car Show Classic: 1977 Chevrolet Caprice Classic Landau Coupe – Bent Glass Beauty, glass car guide.#Glass #car #guide

Car Show Classic: 1977 Chevrolet Caprice Classic Landau Coupe Bent Glass Beauty

Glass car guide

(first posted 12/10/2012) Time for another B-body! Yes, it s well-established that many of us here at CC love the 1977-90 B-body, so I will shamelessly appeal to those well-versed folks with this red beauty, shot this past September at the great Trains, Planes and Automobiles show in Geneseo, IL. The 1977 Caprice Classic and Impala, along with its corporate cousins, were perhaps the last great GM cars. Well hey, for the longest time, no one did full-size cars like the General

Glass car guide

The 1977 B-body s development and history are well-known and worth a post of its own, but today, let s just focus on the coupe, shall we? The 77 full-size Chevy coupe was initially available in Caprice Classic and Impala flavors. Both coupe and sedan shared a 116 wheelbase, a fact touted in ads like the one above. Yes, stretch-out room for rear seat passengers was not a problem. A far cry from personal-luxury coupes of just a couple years earlier; Mark IV and Thunderbird, I m looking at you.

Glass car guide

All in all, the 77 Caprice coupe was a trim, fresh breath of air, when compared to the gunboat 1976 model. Sure, the 71- 76 Chevys have their charms, but they were awfully big.

Glass car guide

In 1977, the future was now. The 1977 Caprice Classics were just as cushy and roomy as the outgoing 76s, but were now much more practical. Anyone who ever had to parallel-park a 1971-76 B-body would have found the 1977 model a revelation. It had a lot more get-up-and-go too, since it had shed an impressive amount of blubber: 611 lbs. for coupes, 637 lbs. for sedans, and an impressive 871 lbs. (!) for station wagons. All that, and they looked good too.

Glass car guide

The most notable feature of two-door full-size Chevrolets was an attractive wraparound rear backlight. This rather space-age feature was accomplished by a single sheet of glass being bent via a hot wire method, much like the 1977-78 Toronado XS. Your Caprice (or Impala) coupe would have come standard with a 1BBL 250 CID Six, producing 110 hp. If that wasn t stout enough for you, a 2 BBL 145-hp 305 V8 (standard in wagons) and 4BBL, 170-hp 350 V8 were available for bit extra.

Glass car guide

Midway through the model year, a Caprice Classic Landau model was added. Primary features were the canopy vinyl roof, wire wheel discs and Landau badging. Sport mirrors and special pinstriping were also included. Finding one these days is a little more daunting than a regular 77 Caprice Classic coupe, as only 9,607 Landaus were built for the year, compared to 62,366 regular Caprice coupes.

Glass car guide

As a kid growing up in the Midwest in the 1980s, I saw lots and I mean LOTS of 1977-79 Caprices. Just across the street TWO neighbors had 1977 Caprice Estate Wagons; one in tobacco brown, one in cream. But the coupes? Not so much. I don t recall ever seeing a Landau (or, indeed, any coupes!) back then, but that was rectified upon spotting this very red Landau at the show. That red interior looks quite inviting too, with its 50/50 divided front seats with individual armrests and passenger recliner. Looks to have power windows and door locks, too.

Glass car guide

This car appeared to be an original, babied example, right down to its wider whitewall tires do they even make them in that size anymore? I know they were quite popular during the mid- 70s to early 80s. I have never seen a Caprice in this color, either. It appears to be Light Red, a 1977 factory color.

Glass car guide

I would rather have the standard Caprice wheel covers, though always liked that design. Maybe from riding my Knight Rider Big Wheel (I had a Knight Rider pedal car too loved that thing!) past the neighbors 77 Caprice wagons dozens, if not hundreds, of times. Both of them had these wheel discs.

Glass car guide

The Landau continued for MY 1978 and 1979, as you would expect during the Great Brougham Epoch. 1978 Landaus were much more numrous, with 22,771 finding buyers, along with 37,301 standard Classic coupes.

Glass car guide

As shown on this 78 Impala coupe, a Power Sky Roof was also available. It must have been a rare option, as I don t recall ever seeing one with it. An Impala Landau was introduced at the same time as the Caprice Landau, and featured the very same additional features, right down to the pinstripes and wire wheel covers.

Glass car guide image: cardomain.com

Even more scarce than the Caprice version, the 1977-79 Impala Landau coupe saw production of 2,749 in 77, 4,652 in 78, and 3,247 in swan-song 1979. Here s a nice survivor I found online. This particular car s story can be found here, and many more pics here. They were not shown in the brochure, and I ve never seen one in the metal. Have you?

Glass car guide

As in 1978, the 1979 full-size Chevys got minor trim tweaks, but remained largely the same. The Landau coupe returned, with the same new grille and tail lights as other 79 Caprice Classics. Sadly, it would be the last year for the cool two-door roofline. 21,824 Landaus came off the assembly lines.

Glass car guide

A coupe including a Landau version would return for 1980, but would receive a blockier formal roofline with a wide C-pillar and conventional backlight.

Glass car guide

The Caprice coupe would go on for many more years, right up to 1987 and the sedan and wagon went even longer. The Landau lasted all the way to 87 as well, though demand went down quite a bit in its last couple of model years. Handsome cars, all, but there was just something about those 77- 79 coupes

Crete is an island with an exquisite 1,000 kilometer-long coastline dotted with numerous coves, bays and peninsulas, which afford a multitude of soft, sandy beaches along the beautifully blue Mediterranean Sea. After all, it’s among the finest in the world and has established Crete as one of Europe’s most popular holiday destinations. And, of course, the island’s historic importance in today’s world as the home of the Minoan civilization with important archeological finds at Knossos, Phaistos and Gortys, is evidenced by the tens of thousands of visitors to these sites each year.

However, Crete is the largest island in Greece – the fifth largest in the Mediterranean – and, within its diverse area of more than 8,000 square kilometers, there are many other jewels just waiting to be discovered by the more adventurous explorers of holiday treasures.

If you haven’t visited Crete yet, this summer may be the time to come and discover this fascinating Greek island. If it captures your heart, don’t worry. Come back next year and Crete will welcome you once more with its smiling Cretan sun, the sounds of the Cretan lyre, the scents of orange blossom and jasmine, a slice of cool red watermelon and a glass of iced raki.

Was quoted a better price online for my car ( Good condition) than everywhere else I tried so thought I would go along to the appointment. Completely expected them to pick fault and decrease the price, at least a little. The car was inspected and I was given the price I was quoted online which was, in my opinion, a very fair price! I met with Malcolm at the Silverlink branch and he made the whole experience a positive one. He called before the appointment to check I knew where to go and what to bring and he was very friendly and fair throughout the whole process. I would definitely recommend!

about used cars

Explore Car-Buying Articles: If you’re unsure about the next steps in buying a used car — or car buying in general — Edmunds has research articles that can help. Certain auto manufactures provide a Canadian Black Book trade-in estimating tool. You can find a list of these manufactures on the Canadian Black Book site. Know however, the results display a value range that is reflective of a vehicle that has been unseen.

The condition and mileage of your vehicle plus local market conditions at the time you trade, will determine the final value. It is nearly always worth giving your new car supplying dealer an opportunity to purchase your trade-in. He is interested in supplying you with your new car so he will be motivated to give you a good price. The trade-in value will usually be approximately equal to the wholesale black book value, (The amount credited is typically five percent below the wholesale value of the vehicle).

    Used Car Marketplace Information

Fact: The average mark-up on a used car is $1,500 to $3,000.

Fact: Typically, offering $2,000 below the display price is a good spot to begin negotiations.

Fact: Offering to pay cash for a vehicle limits your ability to negotiate with the dealer. Instead, if you tell the dealer you’d like to arrange a way to finance your purchase, they may be willing to knock of the price a little bit, because they make some money on the financing side.

Fact: To get a top dollar value for your trade-in, you should spend some time cleaning and polishing your car to look its best!

Fact: According to estimates by AutoCheck, there are more than 89,000 vehicles with rolled back odometers on the used car market in Canada.

Check Before You Buy! – Check the VIN number on the car. For about $15.00 you can check the vehicle’s true history by purchasing a Vehicle History Report.

Fact: Your offer to the dealer should always be conditional on getting an independent mechanical inspection.

Fact: A new car experiences significant depreciation in it first year because, you have paid retail price and yet can only recover the wholesale value of your car once you have left the lot.

Fact: A car loses between 15 and 20% of its value each year.

    • A 2 year old car is worth 80 to 85% of what its value was after its first year.
    • A 3 year old car is worth 80 to 85% of what its value was after its second year.

Best Car Lift Guide by BendPak – Everything you Need to Know, car pricing guide.#Car #pricing #guide

The Mighty Car Lift: An Introduction

Car lifts have long been one of the most important investments a professional automotive shop or garage can make. With the recent unexpected boost in automotive business sector, consumers are even more likely to repair and service their vehicles rather than purchase a new one. It’s never been more important for auto body shops, quick lube stations, car dealerships and car rental businesses to have the most reliable car lifting equipment to suit the needs of their customers. Para informaci n en Espa ol, clic aqu .

    Car pricing guide

Increasingly, car lifts are also becoming a more popular choice among dedicated hobbyists who prefer to maintain their own vehicles, as well as families looking to make the most out of their limited parking space. The efficiency, speed, safety and convenience a high-quality car lift provides is now an affordable option for the home user.

But finding the right car lift for home or professional use is still a challenging task for many consumers, mostly because it seems like the options, features and different applications multiply in number by the day. That’s why we’re here to offer comprehensive help with The Best Car Lift: A Guide from BendPak. This guide will not only give you valuable information about the different car lift styles, but also about the important role ALI / ETL certification plays in safe car lift operation, safety features, how to choose a dealer and pricing. Using this car lift buyer’s guide will prepare you so that you can find the best auto lift for your home or business.

The most important thing you can do when shopping around for a new auto lift of any kind is to conduct your own car lift consumer research. Since you’re reading this in-depth car lift guide, you are already on the right track.

You should get started by gaining more than a basic understanding of where the automotive lift is going to be installed. To start, this will require accurate measurements of your bay or garage, including ceiling height. Also, decide what type of car or truck the auto lift will be lifting. Use that information to choose the prospective car lift’s dimensions and weight capacity.

Additional things to look out for include concrete strength and the pounds per square inch (PSI) rating, as well as the location / rating of your power and air supply. These factors will certainly affect which car lift you should invest in.

There are also other online resources you can use to fully prepare yourself for your car lift purchase and installation. Two of them are the Top 10 Guide to Car Lifts and the Study in Lift Design website.

Now that you have prepared this general information, you’re all set to answer the question, “Which car lift is right for me?” Read on, future car lift owner!

    about used cars

Explore Car-Buying Articles: If you’re unsure about the next steps in buying a used car — or car buying in general — Edmunds has research articles that can help.

    2013 Minivan/Van Buying Guide

    Top Recommended Minivans/Vans

The minivan rarely gets respect, yet nothing else matches its practical utility when it’s time to move a lot of people or a lot of stuff, and this is something that parents, carpoolers, business owners or yard-sale junkies can all appreciate. The minivan’s sliding rear doors and low step-in height afford easy access for passengers, while its assortment of storage spaces and reconfigurable seating arrangement deftly solve transportation problems you didn’t even know you had. Even if cargo-hauling tops your list of requirements, both minivans and full-size vans have you covered. And from a fuel economy standpoint, minivans generally achieve better gas mileage than most full-size SUVs. The minivan deserves some respect for the expert way it meets such a wide array of challenges.

The Honda Odyssey tops our list of recommended minivans for 2013. We feel it’s the most well-rounded of the people haulers on the market thanks to its smooth, quiet ride, briskly powerful yet fuel-efficient V6, highly versatile interior and bountiful complement of available convenience features. We’re also big fans of the Odyssey’s agile handling. Don’t get us wrong, as this is still a minivan, but this Honda’s recently retuned suspension makes it feel much less like a behemoth around corners. And though the Odyssey can be pricier than its competitors, its user-friendly elements like an easy-to-stow third-row seat and versatile second-row seating (which can be configured to accommodate up to three child seats) make it the minivan we recommend the most.

Moving up to second place this year is the Nissan Quest. With better-quality interior materials than the Odyssey, super-convenient fold-flat second and third rows and Nissan’s excellent continuously variable transmission (CVT), the Quest is a worthy contender in the minivan prize fight. And we should know, since we’ve spent the better part of a year getting to know one in our long-term fleet. Though the Quest only seats seven (compared to the available eight-passenger seating of most of its rivals) and has less cargo space than competitors, it delivers a higher level of driver engagement and stand-out styling. The Nissan Quest is a minivan, yet it also wants to be something more than that.

Even though it’s third, don’t assume the Toyota Sienna comes in last. It’s comfortable, roomy, well-built and has certain high-end features that you won’t find on the Odyssey, like keyless ignition/entry and adaptive cruise control. Plus the Sienna offers all-wheel drive, which is a must-have in less consistently temperate climes. As a whole, the Sienna is an excellent seven- or eight-passenger minivan choice for larger families. Lastly, if a full-size minivan is more than you need in a kidmobile but you’d still like six-passenger capacity and the miracle of sliding doors, take a look at the smaller Mazda 5. a micro minivan that could be just right for you.

    • Quotes on new cars usually range from $250 below invoice to $500 over invoice, right in your target zone
    • These services will cut your car shopping time in half

The Best Way to Save on a New Car is Competing Quotes

You should never enter a dealership without The Folder containing your price quotes to compare. In Chapter 4 we’ll cover in great detail how to calculate the true dealer cost and how to figure out a fair offer using our Buyers Offer Spreadsheet .

Types Of New Car Buying Sites

    1. Services that give you a guaranteed price that will be honored at the dealership
    2. Sites that sell directly to you and list all the new car prices online
    3. Free referral services with a network of thousands of dealers offering discounted internet volume prices

    How We Reviewed Recommended Sites

We’ve been researching car pricing sites since 1997 so you don’t have to. We know their top executives, we’ve used them ourselves, we receive feedback from thousands of CarBuyingTips.com visitors using them and guided friends to success with them. The sites we recommend are honest, have withstood years of intense scrutiny and successful usage by thousands of our daily visitors.

How Free Car Pricing Services Work

Referral services provide discount pricing through a network of over 2,000-5,000 dealerships. No tricks, no gimmicks. Member dealers get tons of internet referrals so they give a better price. These services can get you a lower price quote than you would typically get by just walking into a dealership.

Top Recommended Car Price Quote Sites

TrueCar takes the haggle and hassle out of new car buying. Using their service you will get a Guaranteed Savings Certificate that will lock your price. This approach is perfect if you don’t like dealing with all the normal negotiating hassles.

CarClearanceDeals.com searches clearance pricing from their network of dealers to get you the cheapest price. Use their simple form to select the make and model and start saving. Remember to get quotes from the maximum number of dealers to give you the upper hand.

Cars.com gives you free, no-obligation quotes from up to 3 dealers. Just select your make, model, color and options. Getting quotes from multiple dealers pressures dealers to give you a discount.

Edmunds.com offers the largest dealer network, offering you better choices when buying a car. Edmunds allows you to select dealers within 50 miles of your zip code and avoid dealers that you don’t want to deal with.

CarsDirect.com lists your purchase price online instantly with better prices than dealers and cool 360 views. As you check off options, the screen shows invoice price, MSRP and your low CarsDirect price.

The CarBuyingTips.com Car Buying Service lets you get a guaranteed price quote without leaving your house. This exclusive program leverages volume buying power of large companies, employers and membership groups to get you a low price on a new car.

Autobytel has 20,000 dealers, they give you free no hassle low price quotes, list car prices and dealer cost.

Roadster Concierge Service for California Residents will get you a great price and handle everything for you. They will deliver your car to your home. The service is only available in California.

Now that you have gotten your free new car price quotes from the above sites, you still need to focus on getting a good overall deal. The deal is more than just the purchase price. There are two key areas that many people pay way too much for:

    1. Financing: When you get your loan at the dealership they are selling you a product, not doing you a favor. You’ll pay lower interest rates financing through lenders such as LightStream and Up2Drive. Finance your car in advance and avoid forced extras scams. For more information about saving money with online financing, read our auto loan chapter .
    2. Extended Warranties: Dealers will try to sell you an extended warranty because they make huge profits on them. Shop around before you buy a car to compare with the dealer’s pricing. I’ll bet you every single time the online sites with better policies and longer coverage terms will have better prices. For an extended warranty, visit CARCHEX to experience their unique compete model or WarrantyDirect to get quotes before going to the dealership. I highly recommend reading my complete article on buying an extended warranty where I review both of them.

    JUNK CAR PRICE GUIDE

What is my JUNK CAR WORTH?

By making ONE CALL to our nationwide call center, we can go thru literally 1000’s of junk car transactions over the past 90 days to get you a real time valuation of your junk vehicle. Why get a valuation based on OLD data (like certain “book” values) when you can get an actual OFFER on ANY CAR or TRUCK?

Call our JUNK CAR HOTLINE at 1-888-420-3807 and get a free, no obligation OFFER on your car!

    What determines JUNK CAR PRICES?

Junk Car Prices are determined by several factors including supply, demand, weight, mileage, condition, and region where it is located.

SUPPLY: If there are hundreds, even thousands, of similar cars to yours already in the local scrap, salvage and junk yards, your value may go down.

DEMAND: If your car is one that people are often looking for parts for, your value may go UP!

WEIGHT: Scrap metal is worth a certain amount per ton. Based on the weight of your vehicle, we can determine a minimum amount of value just for the scrap metal in your car.

MILEAGE: If your car is a very low mileage vehicle (under 100,000 miles) it may be worth MORE than JUNK CAR VALUE and may have wholesale, re-sale or auction value.

CONDITION: It depends on what parts of your car are still recyclable and which aren’t. If you have a blown motor but great body panels, your car may actually be worth MORE than a car with a great running engine, but damaged, rusted or missing body parts!

LOCATION: Certain parts of the country pay more for certain cars than others.

To get an INSTANT OFFER (not just a price quote, but an actual OFFER to purchase your junk car TODAY) CALL: 1-888-420-3807
