      School of Nursing and Allied Health

      Nursing BSN Program

      The School of Nursing and Allied Health offers a rigorous nursing curriculum that includes academic and clinical performance requirements. The BSN degree prepares students as generalists, capable of working in a variety of settings. In addition, students are prepared for graduate studies in nursing. Approved by the Texas Board of Nurse Examiners and accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission.

      What will I experience at HBU?

      Courses have clinical experiences in all of the major hospitals in the Texas Medical Center and in numerous community health sites. In addition, most hospitals in the area offer opportunities for students to be selected for work-study programs. Approximately 10 students per school are selected, hired by the hospital and work about 24 hours per month. Students are paid for their work and, in addition, receive scholarship support from the institution. Students study intensive care nursing at Memorial Hermann Hospital, one of the nation s leading trauma and burn centers. During this study, they eyewitness the operation of Life Flight and the Shock Trauma ICU. BSN students have a series of courses on community and public health which explores the nurse s role in numerous sites including school nursing, home health care and long-term care, as well as care for the homeless, and adult daycare programs for elderly with Alzheimer s disease. The School of Nursing and Allied Health in partnership with the Fifth Ward Congregational Health Coalition has provided health fairs, senior groups health education, home visits, and health promotion plans to under served populations.

      The nursing shortage has created numerous career opportunities for nurses, including specialty care units such as nurseries, pediatric and adult ICUs, OR, and post anesthesia care units, labor and delivery, and postpartum. In the community, nurses can work as school nurses, in clinics providing care for vulnerable populations such as persons with cancer, AIDS/HIV, homeless and the elderly, and in hospitals caring for persons with organ transplants, burns, and trauma. Some graduates have gone into research, while those who enjoy technology and computers can enter the world of nursing informatics.

      Graduation Requirements

      Requirements for graduation with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree are that the candidate meet all general requirements for graduation as outlined in the Houston Baptist University Catalog: Satisfactory completion of a minimum of 127- 128 semester hours.

      1. Candidates for the Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing are expected to have earned a prescribed number of points in the Nursing Student Association and demonstrated professionalism as required for the portfolio.
      2. Graduating seniors are expected to make application to the Texas State Board Examination for R.N. licensure.

      After Graduation

      Graduates of Houston Baptist University s BSN program are highly sought by employers, and they have a wide range of employment options. Traditional hospital employment offers a BSN-prepared RN the opportunity to work with patients of all ages. Graduates can also choose to work in an area of specialization such as intensive care, labor and delivery, pediatrics, mental health, or surgery. In the community, our graduates go into such settings as home health care, hospice care, school nursing, and more. The BSN program comprehensively prepares the student for graduate study. Our graduates include those who have continued their education to become advanced practice nurses following completion of the MSN degree, nurse administrators, and some choose to obtain a Ph.D. degree in nursing as well.

Hoewel complexe microchirurgische technieken vaak niet mogelijk zijn, geloven we dat elementaire chirurgische vaardigheden kunnen worden aangeleerd aan lokale chirurgen, wat hen toelaat in fundamentele borstkankerzorg te voorzien en een daaropvolgende elementaire reconstructie aan te bieden.

    If you donate a car to a charitable organization, YOU must determine its fair market value. The fair market value of your vehicle cannot be determined by a charity, the IRS considers that to be a “conflict of interest.” Kelley Blue Book can help you determine your vehicle’s value.

    You also need to fill in the exact mileage on the car and the zip code in which you will be stating that you live on your tax return.

    To help further define your specific vehicle’s value, make sure you accurately select the options on your vehicle. These could include a sunroof, leather interior, power windows and door locks, etc. Check these boxes correctly according to your car and check all that apply.

    The bottom box is entitled “Select Vehicle Condition .” Choose “Help Me ,” which is the last box on the right. This is important in order to accurately get what the IRS deems as the “fair market value” for your vehicle.

    After choosing “Help Me” click on the bottom button called, “Get Pricing Report .”

    On this page you rate the following: Exterior Condition, Interior Condition,

    Mechanical Condition. and other important factors in rating your vehicles current condition. Choose one rating for each. Do not skip any of these questions. Print this page to show the charity and the IRS that you took the vehicle’s current condition into consideration when placing a value on it.

    When finished, click on “Get Pricing Report ” at the bottom of the page. You will then receive the Kelley Blue Book “Private Party Value” for your car in its current condition. This will be the value you will use for your donated vehicle. You should print a few copies of this page for your tax records, the IRS and for the charity in which you are donating your vehicle. Make sure to take several photos of your vehicle for your files as well.

    If the amount of your deduction for all non-cash gifts is more then $500.00 then you must file the IRS Form 8283: Non-cash Charitable Contributions ( ) with your itemized tax return. A copy should be mailed to the charity or donation program.

    The IRS requires that the charity or donation program verify your donation and file IRS Form 8282: Donee Information Return ( ). You should be sent a copy for your records.

Be sure to read the section entitled “Contribution of Property” and a section called “Determining Fair Market Value.” Another section called “Cars, boats, and aircraft” will help you in situations of donating these types of properties.     When you make any non-cash contributions, you must get and keep a receipt from the charitable organization showing: Name of the charity, date and location of the charitable contribution, and a detailed description of the donation.     Settlement of foundation can be defined as its permanent downward displacement. There are two basic causes of foundation settlement:

    Settlement Due Directly to the Weight of the Structure

    The first type of settlement is directly caused by the weight of the structure. For example, the weight of a building may cause compression of an underlying sand deposit or consolidation of an underlying clay layer. Often the settlement analysis is based on the actual dead load of the structure. The dead load is defined as the structural weight due to beams, columns, floors, roofs, and other fixed members. The dead load does not include nonstructural items. Live loads are defined as the weight of nonstructural members, such as furniture, occupants, inventory, and snow. Live loads can also result in settlement of the structure.

    For example, if the proposed structure is a library, then the actual weight of the books (a live load) should be included in the settlement analyses. Likewise, for a proposed warehouse, it may be appropriate to include the actual weight of anticipated stored items in the settlement analyses. In other projects where the live loads represent a significant part of the loading, such as large electrical transmission towers that will be subjected to wind loads, the live load (wind) may also be included in the settlement analysis. Considerable experience and judgment are required to determine the load that is to be used in the settlement analyses.

    Settlement Due to Secondary Influences

    The second basic type of settlement of a building is caused by secondary influence, which may develop at a time long after the completion of the structure. This type of settlement is not directly caused by the weight of the structure. For example, the foundation may settle as water infiltrates the ground and causes unstable soils to collapse (i.e. collapsible soil). The foundation may also settle due to yielding of adjacent excavations or the collapse of limestone cavities or under-ground mines and tunnels. Other causes of settlement that would be included in this category are natural disasters, such as settlement caused by earthquakes or undermining of the foundation from floods.

    Subsidence is usually defined as a sinking down of a large area of the ground surface. Subsidence could be caused by the extraction of oil or groundwater that leads to a compression of the underlying porous soil or rock structure. Since subsidence is due to a secondary influence (extraction of oil or groundwater), its effect on the structure would be included in the second basic type of settlement.
