The best life insurance company

South African consumers’ satisfaction with the life insurance industry, declined for the second year in a row, according to the latest South African Customer Satisfaction Index (SAcsi).

Local life insurers were given a score of 75.7 out of 100, 2.7 points lower than the score recorded in 2014, which had also declined from the previous year.

The survey involved a sample of 2,070 randomly selected customers of SA’s top life insurers by market share: Sanlam Life, Old Mutual, Momentum, Liberty Life, Discovery Life and Metropolitan Life and a category called ‘other’ which included smaller insurers.

Sanlam and Momentum emerged as leaders with scores of 78.4 and 78.2 respectively, SAcsi said, while the scores of Old Mutual (77.5), Liberty Life (76.7), Discovery Life (74.8) and Metropolitan Life (74.0) were statistically on par with the industry average.

Prof. Adré Schreuder, founder of the SAcsi and CEO of Consulta Research, says that Momentum Life was the only brand which showed an improvement (+1.2) from 2014, while Sanlam and Old Mutual maintained their scores.

The greatest decline in customer satisfaction was recorded by clients of Discovery Life (-3.3), Metropolitan Life (-2.4) and Liberty Life (-1.8).

“Interestingly, both Discovery Life and Liberty Life have embarked on intensive communication and marketing campaigns.

It is not unusual to see drops in satisfaction and customer loyalty following acquisition drives; the downward shift in their scores may be as a result of a lag between the brand promises made since last year, versus actual customer experiences, said Schreuder.

Customer expectations are higher in 2015 for Momentum, Old Mutual and Sanlam customers. Metropolitan Life clients have the lowest expectations, which Prof. Schreuder says is likely a factor of the lower income segments that form part of its portfolio.

Although the overall perceived value score declined marginally in 2015, Metropolitan Life customers said they received good value, with a score that is 2.5 points higher than a year ago. Momentum and Old Mutual also had improved value scores.

Perceived quality was higher for Metropolitan, Momentum and Old Mutual, whereas Discovery Life customers gave the brand a lower score than in 2014.

SAcsi also tracks the well known Net Promoter Score (NPS), which describes the likelihood of customers recommending a particular life insurer.

Although the overall score is 8% lower than last year, Old Mutual has the most promoters and the lowest detractors. Old Mutual and Sanlam customers were most likely to recommend these brands, said Prof. Schreuder.

The international life insurance industry benchmark is set by the USA at 80 (83) out of 100. South Africa is currently at 75.7 and is often compared to countries like South Korea (74) and Singapore (66.1).

It s easy to feel like you got your money s worth from a delicious meal or a much-anticipated vacation, but what about when it comes something you don t necessarily want but need like which are the best insurance companies?

Fortunately for you, there are people like us who earn that money by combing through information about insurance companies (and actually really enjoy doing it).

Each year, Insure.com s Best Insurance Companies Survey reveals the 20 best auto insurance companies and the 15 best insurers for health, home and life insurance.

So instead of worrying that you re not getting the best that our hard-earned money can buy, you can enjoy that sweet satisfaction that comes with being a savvy consumer.

Auto, health and home insurers were ranked based on the ratings from surveyed policyholders in the categories of customer service, claims service, value for price, plan to renew, and would recommend. These five weighted categories reflected the priorities customers ranked the highest when considering insurance needs.

Our survey is a great tool in helping alleviate the anxiety of wondering if there s something better out there that you re missing, says Jennifer Shelton, managing editor of Insure.com. You might ask five or six family members for recommendations or spend hours online or on the phone. We ve asked more than 3,700 people, and in one glance, you can make the best determination for your needs.

Best auto insurance companies

Companies rate factors different, so variables — such as road construction, crime rates and accident frequency in your city, which change from year to year — can make a difference in the way a company would quote a policy. One company might rate the area in which you live more favorably than another, so it s always worth comparing quotes at least every couple of years so you can take advantage of best rates available.

For 2017, USAA reclaimed the top spot for auto insurance. The insurer has established reputation for treating its insurance members very well, but maybe that s because not just any John or Jane Doe can sign up. USAA requires military affiliation in order to have an account.

Auto Club of Southern California took second place this year, and while it is a state-specific insurer, the AAA affiliate insures more than six million members. Rounding out the top three is another AAA insurer: CSAA Insurance Group. Don t be fooled by the name; CSAA doesn t just service the state of California. The insurer writes coverage in 23 states plus the District of Columbia.

It shouldn t discourage you that the top three companies are affiliated with organizations. First off, USAA has a number of ways to show military association. And while the Auto Club of Southern California does require a AAA membership, CSAA does not, so anyone can purchase an insurance policy. However, you could also become a member of AAA and reap the additional benefits that come with that, such as road service.

Residents of the Golden State aren t short of choices, but going with an insurer who is completely focused and familiar with one of the most densely populated areas of the country seems to be a good choice.

Best health insurance companies

Health care in the U.S. can be an overwhelming field to navigate, so finding a company with which you can feel satisfied and cared for is like winning the Olympic Gold Medal at Adulting. Whether you have insurance through your employer, the Marketplace, or an individual policy, familiarizing yourself with the players in the game and their plan offerings and can help you make better choices come open enrollment.

Blue Cross Blue Shield affiliates appeared to have done a good job keeping consumer happy this year. Florida Blue and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan took the number one and number two spots, both earning 4.75 stars for customer service — the highest in the health survey.

A New York-based provider, EmblemHealth, received the third spot on our health insurance survey.

Between these three state-specific health insurers, they service over 12 million members of the 289 million Americans with some form of health insurance.

Best home insurance companies

Car insurance commercials constantly urge you to switch and chances are — unless you are an undiscovered superhero you re using your health care benefits a couple of times a year. But homeowners insurance is often not thought of much past the requirement to have it with your mortgage loan or in the unfortunate event of a home disaster. Your home insurance protects what is likely your most valuable asset. Understand your needs or your current policy, then compare the options carefully, and rest a little easier.

After earning the top spot in the auto category, USAA earned its second first-place finish this year with an overall score of 97.5, the highest score of the entire survey.

The distance between first and second place was the widest in the home category with a seven-point difference. Chubb has a reputation as the go-to company for high-end insurance needs, and it s high and consistent scores would indicate its clients are pleased with the result. Currently, the runner-up writes coverage in 31 states.

Allstate came in just a sliver behind Chubb with an overall score of 90.3, despite the nationwide insurer earning a perfect five in claims processing,

Best life insurance companies

Due to the unique nature of life insurance products, claims processing and likelihood of renewal are omitted from the scoring. The categories of customer service, value for price, and would recommend are the weighted factors measured in ranking the best life insurance companies.

In the only category where national and non-state or member companies reigned supreme, Voya Financial, formerly ING, came out on top this year in the life insurance category with a stellar overall score of 97.1 and a perfect five stars in customer service. The multi-line insurer, State Farm, came in second, and John Hancock Life Insurance finishes the top three.

Smaller companies may be keeping customers more satisfied

The overall trend observed is that smaller, leaner companies specializing in their particular line or region seems to be more successful at keeping their customers happier than those that are large enough to spread to every type of coverage and financial product. That said, there were a couple of successful Goliaths.

Penny Gusner, consumer analyst for Insure.com notes, It s remarkable that State Farm and Allstate are able to maintain such high marks in customer service. It s not uncommon to see companies as large and with such diverse products lose the ability to keep customer service at the heart of the company values.

Insure.com commissioned Op4G to survey more than 3,700 insurance customers nationwide in June 2016. The survey collected customer ratings for 20 leading companies in the auto category and 15 leading companies in each of the home, health and life categories. Only current customers of the insurers on our lists were surveyed, and the survey was not open to the general public on the Insure.com website.

Auto, home and health insurers were ranked according to a weighted 5-point measurement of the following factors: customer service, claims processing, value for price, would recommend and would renew. Life insurers were rated on a weighted 5-point measurement on customer service, value for price, and would recommend. Weighted measurements were derived from surveyed policyholders rank of prioritization of these factors.

There are really no hidden fees. Some companies will try to sell you insurance, which is likely covered by your own auto insurance and/or your credit card, and upgrades. I am pretty sure they all give estimates including all local taxes and fees. If you use a travel service such as Travelocity they do show all fees, however only for airport rentals.

Most of the rental companies have off-airport locations. Go to their web sites to search. Be aware that these off-airport locations are usually open hours such as 8-6 M-F and abbreviated hours Sat/Sun. That info will also be on the web site.

As far as who s best, that would be Hertz IMO, and worth a few extra dollars for the service and reliability.

    A Toronto legal clinic that has advocated for the Black community for over two decades is in jeopardy of having its funding cut amid allegations of financial mismanagement, Metro has learned.

    The African Canadian Legal Clinic has failed to address a number of issues, including misuse of public funds, since they first surfaced in 2009, according to a June 2016 decision from a committee of Legal Aid Ontario’s board of directors. The decision, obtained this summer by Metro, found the clinic was in fundamental breach of its obligations under its funding agreement with Legal Aid Ontario.

    The decision specifically cites an audit by independent auditors PwC, which names Margaret Parsons, the clinic’s executive director, and found she charged $754 for a diamond ring to a company credit card in 2007. Auditors found no evidence the money had been paid back.

    The decision also alleges the clinic used money from undisclosed staff vacancies to pay out $170,000 in bonuses, including $121,000 that went to Parsons.

    In an interview with Metro, Parsons denied any wrongdoing and said no public funds were ever misused. She did not deny that she bought the ring with the card but says she paid it back twice and provided auditors with a receipt. She also said the clinic was transparent about staff vacancies and she never gave or received the bonuses.

    We’ve always been treated as a pariah of the clinic system, she said, adding the African Canadian Legal Clinic has been held to a higher standard than other community legal clinics.

    They have never given us a fair shake, she said about Legal Aid.

    Parsons said the non-profit clinic has 26 employees, with a budget of about $1.7 million a year that’s for the most part public funding.

    The clinic committee of Legal Aid’s board of directors is expected to decide in the next few weeks if it will suspend the funding it provides.

    The money makes up 35 per cent of the clinic’s total annual income, according to Legal Aid, which Parsons confirmed. In 2016/2017, Legal Aid gave $669,730 to the clinic, Legal Aid spokesman Graeme Burk told Metro.

    Since 1994, the African Canadian Legal Clinic has advocated for the Black community on issues ranging from school board discrimination to carding.

    “Before Black Lives Matter was around, this clinic was talking about anti-Black racism when no one wanted to say the word,” Parsons said.

    Legal Aid’s concerns date back several years.

    A 2003 forensic audit by Legal Aid Ontario identified several problems with management at the African Canadian Legal Clinic, the Toronto Star reported. Later that year, Legal Aid and the clinic’s board of directors announced a plan to address concerns, including accounting problems, according to the Star.

    Legal Aid staff became concerned again in 2009 following the resignation of two clinic board members over concerns of “financial irregularities” and “gross misconduct and illegalities,” the June 2016 decision states, referencing emails from the board members. Legal Aid hired PwC to complete a forensic audit that was finalized in 2013.

    Parsons disputes that the board members resigned because of financial concerns and said it was the clinic that requested the PwC audit.

    The PwC audit also found that a clinic credit card was used to buy alcohol from the LCBO for on-site “Bacardi Friday” events.

    A separate 2014 report from Legal Aid found $6,650 in unexplained cash advances using the African Canadian Legal Clinic’s credit card and flagged $39,007 spent on taxis in Toronto.

    Parsons said in the interview that the taxis were legitimate travel expenses for clinic employees. She said the unexplained cash advances and alcohol purchases are due to a few employees who were immediately fired when she found out. She also said that the money was paid back to the clinic.

    Based on that report, the clinic was found in “fundamental breach” of its statutory obligations under the Legal Aid funding agreement and was instructed to meet eight conditions to avoid losing funding, ranging from training for board members to submitting a financial restructuring plan.

    The June 2016 decision found that the clinic had met only one of them: to cooperate with an audit of overtime. A second internal document from Legal Aid Ontario references a decision from early 2017 that found the African Canadian Legal Clinic had made some progress but had not fulfilled the eight conditions. It declared funding would be suspended March 31, 2017 unless there was full compliance from the board and management.

    Parsons and Rawle Elliott, the chair of the clinic’s board, told Metro that all conditions have since been met.

    “It’s challenging for a volunteer board, but we’ve met the challenge,” Elliott said.

    Burk, the Legal Aid spokesperson, wrote in an email to Metro that “whether or not (the clinic) has complied with the conditions is the very question before the Clinic Committee. We cannot comment beyond that.”

    Julian Falconer, a lawyer hired to handle the issue for Legal Aid, said the agency has convened an advisory committee of African Canadian leaders who are helping to assess what the needs are in the community and how to meet them “regardless of what direction the clinic committee takes.”

    “It’s essential that at the end of the day the folks that were ultimately intended to be helped by legal services are not lost in what has been a difficult process,” he added.

    Falconer said the findings of the clinic committee in the 2016 decision obtained by Metro “speak for themselves.”

    “No one is happy with the nature of the allegations involved here. Everyone is concerned,” he added.

    I watched this movie because it billed itself as a mystery . The only mystery is how anyone could find it entertaining. It was about as enticing as a toenail clipping. I agree with other reviews in that this movie featured very bland and self absorbed characters, not the least of which was the female lead. Also, talk about implausible.     Bengal introduces single-window clearance for 38 industries

    Stating her government is absolutely against any strikes and shutdowns, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said on Monday that 38 industrial sectors, inclusive of MSMEs, will get single-window clearance facility for setting up new plants or investing in the state. We are against any shutdowns (bandhs) and strikes which affects the normal functioning of the state, she told investors here at an interactive seminar, Business Made Easy – The Next Level. Banerjee said her government is trying hard to attract investment in the state and has quickened the process of obtaining clearance certificates from various departments. During 2011, West Bengal was ranked at 17th position in terms of ease of doing business. We have taken stock of the situation and have introduced single-window clearance for 38 subjects (sectors), she said. Source: IANS
