For some cars, lights not only illuminate the road ahead but also serve as a distinctive styling element that can sometimes be the most interesting part of a car’s overall design. Automakers are increasingly attempting to solidify their signature look with light designs, and LED technology allows them to create unique designs that are identifiable whether it’s day or night.

    Lexus RC F

    Led lights for cars

The Lexus RC F coupe’s gaping spindle grille isn’t the only polarizing element featured on its front fascia. Its lighting system features an L-shaped LED daytime running lamp accent that is separate from the main headlight housing. The optional triple-beam LED headlamps are also L-shaped and look sharp.

    Porsche 918 Spyder

    Led lights for cars

The 918 Spyder was the first Porsche to feature the four-point “floating” LED lighting system. Although not overly intricate, the design is unique to Porsche and should age well. Porsche now offers the four-point LED option for other models, such as the Panamera, Macan, and the recently revised Cayenne.

    Ford Mustang

    Led lights for cars

Ford‘s ponycar sports a number of retro design elements in addition to its triple-bar taillights. The 2015 Mustang features an updated and more modern take on the taillights but retains the cool sequential-style turn signals. Up front, the Mustang GT gets LED accents that look like shark gills and mirror the slant of the taillights.

    Mercedes-Benz E-Class

    Led lights for cars

Mercedes continues to unveil standout lighting, and the E-Class is no exception. The optional Lighting Package includes full-LED headlamps with sharp-looking boomerang-style LED accents you can’t find on other Mercedes models. An E-Class without the fancy LED lighting elements looks woefully bland in comparison.

    Ford F-150

    Led lights for cars

The utilitarian pickup truck rarely breaks ground when it comes to styling, but Ford made a good effort with the 2015 F-150. Specifically, the front end features big and bold U-shaped headlights with LED units available as an option (a segment first). LED tube lights border the outer edge of the headlamps to give the F-150 a distinctive look at night.

    Aston Martin Vanquish

    Led lights for cars

Take a look at the Vanquish’s mug, and there’s no mistaking it for anything other than an Aston Martin thanks to the automaker’s signature grille. The rear end of the Vanquish is also unmistakably Aston Martin thanks to its “light blade”-style LED taillamps that appear to slice through the sheetmetal.

    Volvo XC90

    Led lights for cars

The 2016 Volvo XC90 is the first production Volvo to sport the automaker’s “Thor”-style headlights. They’re a striking feature in an otherwise simple front fascia. And like the previous-generation XC90, the new crossover retains its dramatic taillights that rise vertically along the glass hatch.

    Bentley Mulsanne

    Led lights for cars

The Bentley Mulsanne forgoes intricate headlight designs in favor of simple, round, and large headlight units that dominate the luxury sedan’s mug. Smaller round units are offset to the side and feature LED halo daytime running lamps. Meanwhile, the taillights are simple yet distinctive with floating-ellipse-style LEDs.

    Jaguar F-Type

    Led lights for cars

The best view of the Jaguar F-Type? Its rear end. The F-Type’s wide haunches give the two-door its sexy stance, and the thin taillights that wrap around the well into the rear fenders help accentuate that look. An LED light bar borders the lower edge of the taillights, making it easy to identify the F-Type at night.

    Land Rover Range Rover

    Led lights for cars

The Range Rover features all-LED rear taillights that are less garish than the last generation, which sported red, amber, and clear lenses. Now the taillights feature vertically stacked LED units that are square and befit the Range Rover’s boxy styling.

    Ferrari FXX K

    Led lights for cars

There’s a lot to take in when looking at the Ferrari FXX K. For starters, the functional split rear wing looks futuristic, and numerous and enormous air scoops look ready to swallow small animals. That said, Ferrari decided to keep things simple with the headlights and taillights, which are nothing more than thin slits in the body.

    BMW i8

    Led lights for cars

The BMW i8 is often described as rolling art, and it’s not hard to see why. The back end, for example, appears to have a floating pillar that connects to the cool U-shaped taillights, which are accented by thin LED bars. BMW i8 supercars sold outside of the U.S. are available with industry-first laser headlamps that emit a sharp and distinctive beam of light.

    Porsche 911 Carrera 4

    Led lights for cars

What’s the easiest way to identify a non-turbo, all-wheel-drive Porsche 911? Head to the back and look for a light strip that connects the taillight units. It’s simple, elegant, and gives this 911 variant a special touch.

    Cadillac CTS

    Led lights for cars

Aside from the Escalade, the 2015 CTS might have the boldest mug in Cadillac‘s lineup. Out back, the CTS features Cadillac’s familiar vertical light bar setup, but the front sports bright and flash LED accents that run along the outer edge of the headlamps and down to the lower bumper. The latter LED units also double as turn signals and hazards, instantly switching from bright white to amber.

    2016 Audi Q7

    Led lights for cars

Audi is credited for igniting the LED lighting trend, and the all-new 2016 Q7 crossover showcases the automaker’s newest design. Here, the headlights feature “double arrow” LED accents and all-LED low- and high-beam lamps. The double arrow theme is also used for the taillights.

The car is no longer yours, it now belongs to your insurance company and is then processed and sold as a salvage vehicle.

A day in the life of a parent like me in a family car like the Chrysler Pacifica hybrid minivan could have one less to-do: the twice-a-week stop at the gas station. One less to-do is no small ado, and this is the promise of the plug-in hybrid family vehicle: to make life easier, better. The plug-in.

    about used cars

If you’ve come here looking for a used or certified pre-owned car, truck, SUV, crossover, hatchback, hybrid or convertible, then you’re in the right place. Edmunds has everything you need to know about buying or selling a used vehicle, including Carfax vehicle history reports, dealership listings and pricing information, expert car reviews, consumer car reviews, car dealership reviews, car price comparisons, car appraisal calculators, images and videos, technical features and specs, user forums and more.

At Edmunds, you’ll be able to browse thousands of used cars, trucks and SUVs for sale with special offers, appraise your current car, and research the car, SUV or truck of your dreams. You can limit your search to certified pre-owned (or CPO) vehicles for sale and be a click away from articles by our experts that will give you the best car shopping and buying tips and advice. Let’s take a closer look at each of these aids to easier used-car shopping.

The INVENTORY tab at the top of the page allows you to browse used cars for sale from popular makes such as Ford, Honda, Toyota, Chevrolet, Hyundai, Infiniti, Acura and Subaru. The inventory tool allows you to cast a much wider net than simply visiting your local dealership’s website. Start with the make and model of the vehicle that you’re interested in. You’ll have the option to refine your search by price, distance, model year and mileage. If you’re looking for specific options or features, a certain trim level or a specific color, there are more advanced search filters available, including engine type, fuel type, drivetrain, powertrain, airbags, air-conditioning and much more. After you find the car, SUV, truck or hybrid that you’re interested in, select the listing to check out the VIN details page for that vehicle and get more information. There you’ll find a description of the vehicle from the dealer, vehicle features and options, contact information for that dealership, dealer reviews, a ballpark insurance estimate, and a link to see a Carfax vehicle history report.

The APPRAISE tab at the top of the page lets you enter your car’s basic information, odometer reading, trim level, and overall condition. Then Edmunds provides you with the True Market Value (TMV) for your used car or vehicle. Edmunds’s True Market Value or used car value is is a great starting point for negotiation of a used-car sale between a private buyer and seller. This is an “as is” value that does not include any warranties. The final sales price depends on the car’s actual condition and local market factors. You can use this used car value estimate to price your car for sale or to negotiate a trade-in for a new, CPO, or previously owned car for sale from a local dealer. The used car value estimate is also useful for assessing retail pricing at a car dealer. You can try it out by clicking the “APPRAISE” tab, above. Once you enter your vehicle details, you will receive three estimates for your used car’s value: “Trade-in” is what you can expect a dealer to offer you for your used car; “Private Party” is what you might expect to earn if you sold the pre-owned vehicle yourself; and “Dealer Retail” is what you might expect to pay if you were buying this used model used at a dealership. If the vehicle is new enough, you’ll also see a price that says “Certified Used Price.” This price estimates what the dealership might sell it for as a certified pre-owned vehicle.

The RESEARCH tab points you to our expert analysis of the make and model of the car you select. You can read our editors’ reviews and learn about each generation of the vehicle you’re interested in. From there, you can narrow the focus of your car buying research by selecting a particular model year and learning more by checking out photos of the cars, researching local dealership listings, car valuation, consumer reviews, editors’ reviews, pros & cons, features & specs, and safety information. That’s a world of information. And we’ve put it all right at your fingertips.

Are you thinking about trading in your vehicle at the dealership or selling it yourself? Find out what your used car is worth with our True Market Value appraisal tool. Enter the year, make and model to get started. Make sure you know the options on your vehicle and the current odometer reading. Be honest about the condition level. Most cars will fall in the “average” to “clean” range.

The appraisal tool will give you three prices: “Trade-in” is what you can expect a dealer to offer you. “Private Party” is what you might expect to earn if you sold the vehicle yourself. “Dealer Retail” is what you might expect to pay if you were buying this model used at a dealership. If the vehicle is new enough, you’ll also see a price that says “Certified Used Price.” This price estimates what the dealer might sell it for as a CPO vehicle.

If you are hesitant about buying a traditional used car, you may want to consider a certified pre-owned vehicle. These vehicles tend to be newer, have gone through a more detailed inspection process and come with a limited warranty. The Edmunds inventory tool will have an option to sort the list to show only CPO vehicles. You can also go directly to the CPO cars page.

Explore Car-Buying Articles: If you’re unsure about the next steps in buying a used car — or car buying in general — Edmunds has research articles that can help. Take a look at those we’ve linked to on this page, or visit our research main page for a full list of articles that have been written by Edmunds car-shopping experts.
