Tata Motors bags contract to provide 10,000 electric cars to EESL

Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) on Friday said that it will procure 10,000 electric vehicles from Tata Motors after the latter emerged as the lowest bidder in a competitive bidding process.

Tata Motors, Mahindra Mahindra (M M) and Japanese carmaker Nissan had all bid for the EESL contract to provide 10,000 electric vehicles over the next 12 months.

Tata Motors quoted the lowest price of Rs 10.16 lakh, exclusive of GST, in the bidding process. The vehicle will be provided to EESL for Rs 11.2 lakh, which will be inclusive of GST and a comprehensive 5-year warranty. At this price, the car will cost 25% less than the current retail price of a similar e-car with a 3-year warranty.

Welcoming the EESL initiative, Guenter Butschek, CEO MD, Tata Motors said: “Tata Motors is extremely proud to partner with the Government of India in its journey to facilitate faster adoption of electric vehicles and to build a sustainable India. Tata Motors has been collaboratively working to develop electric powertrain technology for its selected products. EESL tender provided us the opportunity to participate in boosting e-mobility in the country, at the same time accelerate our efforts to offer full range of electric vehicles to the Indian consumers.”

According to a Business Standard report, the first phase will see the delivery of 500 electric cars over a three-month period. The second phase will see 9,500 electric cars delivered in nine months.

The report said that the company selected to provide the cars to EESL will not have to spend on launches, advertisements or other promotional activities, thereby enabling bidders to bid lower than they would have done otherwise.

India’s Electric Vehicle Push: Can India go from 1 to 100 in 13 years?

EESL is a joint venture between government entities National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC), Power Grid, Power Finance Corporation, and Rural Electrification Corporation. It had floated the tender on August 15.

EESL aims to lease these electric cars to the various government departments. The first of the departments to get these cars would be the power ministry and the power public sector units in the National Capital Region (NCR).

The company, which comes under the Ministry of Power, further said along with procurement of 10,000 EVs through bidding, it would also identify a service provider agency.

“This agency, also appointed through competitive bidding, will carry out end-to-end fleet management of the procured vehicles for the concerned government customer,” the statement added.

Apart from continuing to aggregate demand, EESL will also be responsible such as coordination between appointed agencies, monitoring and supervision, reporting, complaint redressal and payments, it said.

Citing a Niti Aayog report, EESL said making India’s passenger mobility shared, electric, and connected can cut the country’s energy demand by 64 per cent and carbon emissions by 37 per cent in 2030.

“This would result in a reduction of 156 Mtoe (million tonne oil equivalent) in diesel and petrol consumption for that year at USD 52/bbl of crude, this would imply a net savings of roughly Rs 3.9 lakh crore in 2030,” the company said.

The government is pushing for manufacturing of electric vehicles to reduce dependence on oil imports and control vehicular pollution. Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari said early this month the government will ‘bulldoze’ the auto industry if it did not switch to cleaner vehicles.

Upcoming Tata Cars in India 2017 -Launch Date, Price, Images, tata cars.#Tata #cars

At least 8 New Tata Cars Coming to India By 2018

Tata Motors has witnessed a decline in sales in recent years due to quality niggles and the taxi market image. The Nano never really took off as expected and the Safari Storme failed to emulate its predecessor s success. The Aria MPV also flopped and Indica Vista and Manza have been witnessing dwindling sales. Tata has managed to recover slightly with the Tiago but there s still room for improvement. The manufacturer is now working on a slew of new launches including the Tiago-based compact sedan, a compact SUV and a lot more. Read on for details regarding all that upcoming Tata cars in India 2017, 2018.

Tata cars

Upcoming Tata Cars in India 2017

1. Tata Tiago Sport

Tata will not launch the Bolt Sport. Instead, it will launch a souped-up variant of the Tiago hatchback. Powering the Tata Tiago Sport will be a turbocharged 1.2-litre three cylinder engine. Max. power could be around 120 PS. We expect a price of Rs. 6-7 Lakhs. Tata Tiago Sport launch should happen by mid 2017.

2. Tata Tiago Aktiv

Tata also plans to launch the Tiago Aktiv. The Aktiv has been internally codenamed as the Tata Kite 4 and is a cross variant of the Tiago. It sports an accessory package that comprises of plastic body cladding, roof rails, sportier bumpers and some decals. The Aktiv could also get some more features. The Tiago Aktiv accessories are currently sold separately at the dealer level. However, Tata might start rolling out factory produced Tiago Aktiv variants since demand is good. Since the Aktiv will sport only cosmetic enhancements over the Tiago, it will remain mechanically unchanged.

Tata cars

3. Tata Nexon

Another new Tata that will be launched in 2017 is the Nexon compact SUV. With the Nexon s design, Tata has adopted a very different approach. The Nexon s biggest USP is its SUV-Coupe styling, which is nothing like anything we have seen in this segment so far. Even the cabin will be just as stylish. It will have features like a touchscreen audio system. Its styling will help set the Nexon apart from the current crop of compact SUVs. The Nexon will rival the Vitara Brezza, Ford EcoSport, Mahindra NuvoSport, etc. And it highly likely that people will opt for the Nexon based purely on its striking design. There have been conflicting reports regarding the Tata Nexon launch date with some reporting an early 2017 launch and other claiming it will come us only in the second half of 2017.

Specifications are purely speculative

4. Tata Bolt Sport

Once the most interesting of all the Upcoming Tata Cars in India, the Bolt Sport might not make it to production. It features new bumpers, alloys and many sporty bits. This car has a 1.2 L Turbo Petrol engine. Tata Motors was supposed to be planning to attract the enthusiasts with the Bolt Sport. However, the Bolt has not been a very successful product. So, Tata chose not to launch the Bolt Sport.

GST car rates: Heavy discounts of up to Rs 2.5 lakh on Hyundai, Mahindra and Tata cars

Tata cars

If you’re considering buying a new car before GST(Goods and Service Tax) rolls out on 1 July 2017 , then this might just be the best time for you in the year up till now. Luxury carmakers were the first to announce heavy discounts on their various models and now mass-market carmakers too have now joined the bandwagon. Ahead of GST’s implementation, various car manufacturers are offering lucrative discount deals on their cars, starting from Rs 15,000 and going all the way up to Rs 2.5 lakh. These benefits are being offered the in form of cash discount and exchange bonus too, depending on the make and model. Herein, we have compiled a list of discounts that you can avail at the dealerships of some of the most popular carmakers in India. These discounts may vary from dealership to dealership, depending on the city so we suggest you to get in touch with your nearest dealership for knowing the best deals.

Tata cars

Mahindra dealerships are offering discounts on KUV100, TUV300, Scorpio and the XUV500 models. These discounts range between Rs 15,000 to Rs 65,000; which are applicable in form of cash discount and exchange Bonus.

Tata Motors dealerships are offering heavy discounts of up to Rs 1 lakh on two of its models, the Bolt and Zest, while the Hexa is available with an exchange bonus of Rs 15,000. This makes June, possibly the best month to buy a new car and the only other time when you might next be offered such lucrative deals could be around the festive season.

Tata Cars at Auto Expo 2018 – Upcoming Cars, New Launches by Tata, tata cars.#Tata #cars

Tata Cars at Auto Expo 2018

India s biggest auto show, the Auto Expo, is currently months away from greeting us again. However, it s pretty much for sure that the Auto Expo 2018 will be witness to a lot many new car launches and many new car unveiling. Tata Motors, one of the major players in Indian auto space, could come up with as many as seven new products at the next Delhi auto show. Other than unveiling a range of new models, it will also showcase the much publicized Tamo Racemo and C-Cube concept. The 2018 Auto Expo should be a really important event for Tata Motors. Let s take a look at Tata cars at Auto Expo 2018.

Tata cars

Tata Cars at Auto Expo 2018

Tata X451 (Maruti Baleno rival)

Tata cars

At the 2018 Auto Expo, Tata is likely to showcase the X451, a premium hatchback that will rival the likes of Maruti Baleno. The X451 will be underpinned by the Advance Modular Platform and is likely to get 1.2-litre Petrol and Diesel motors. It s said that the new hatchback s design will have inputs coming from Jaguar Land Rover (JLR)! Not much is currently known about this car, but safely expect it to get a modern design and a spacious cabin. Looking at the recent Tata products, it should be fairly safe to predict high fit-and-finish levels. This should be one of the most important Tata cars at Auto Expo 2018.

Tata Q501 (Tata-Land Rover SUV)

Tata cars

Another important upcoming Tata car that could debut at the Auto Expo 2018 is the Q501 (Tata Land Rover SUV). While the launch of the Tata Land Rover SUV is likely to happen only in the second-half of next year, it will definitely become the most premium Tata product ever. Expect it to come with a 2.0-litre Fiat-sourced Multijet Diesel engine and 4 4. Prices could start at Rs 22 lakh and the new model will go on to rival the likes of Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour.

Tata Q502

Tata cars

Tata Motors is also likely to showcase the Q502 at the 2018 Auto Expo. The Q502 is basically a smaller, five-seater version of the Q501. The Q502 will be positioned slightly above the Hexa and will rival the likes of Hyundai Tucson. It will look a lot like the Q501, but will have smaller dimensions. Akin to the Q502, it will be underpinned by the Land Rover Discovery platform. We re hoping the Q502 gets the excellent Land Rover Terrain Response system. The Q502, much like the Q501, will become one of the major attractions at Tata stalls in the 2018 Delhi motor show.

New Tata sedan (Maruti Ciaz rival)

Tata cars

Expected to launch only by 2019, the next motor show in Delhi could see the debut of an all-new Tata sedan that will ultimately go on to rival the Maruti Ciaz. In all probability, Tata Motors will showcase a pre-production version of its upcoming sedan at the Auto Expo 2018. Akin to the upcoming premium hatchback, even this sedan will be based on Tata s Advance Modular Platform. Many styling elements could be shared with the Nexon compact SUV. The new model is expected to debut with all-new 1.5-litre Diesel and 1.2-litre Turbo petrol engines.

Tata Tigor Electric

Tata cars

Tata Motors has bagged an order to supply as many as 10,000 units of the Tigor Electric Vehicle to the Government of India. The price of the Tigor EV is Rs 10.16 lakh (excluding GST). Of course, there will be a different price once the car s market launch takes place. The Tigor shares its 85 kW motor with the Tiago EV. This electric motor outputs a peak torque of 200 Nm and has a range of approx 100 kmph. The car has a top speed of 135 kmph and can go from 0 to 100 kmph in less than 11 seconds.

Tata Tiago Electric

Tata cars

Another interesting model among the Tata cars at Auto Expo 2018 will be the Tiago electric. Basically an all-electric version of the Tiago hatchback, the upcoming Tata car could actually go on sale by 2019. Expect this EV to cost roughly Rs 7 lakh (ex-showroom) when it goes on sale in near future.

Tata TaMo Racemo

Tata cars

This two-seater sportscar from Tata was unveiled at Geneva this year. However, the Racemo will make its India debut only at the Auto Expo 2018. This sports car is powered by a 1.2 L turbocharged petrol engine mated to a 6-speed AMT. Expect the upcoming Tata Tamo Racemo to cost around Rs. 25 lakh.

Tata Tamo C Cube

Tata cars

Tata might even showcase the C-Cube at the Auto Expo 2018. The Tamo C-Cube made its debut at the 2017 Future Decoded event in Mumbai. From the looks of it, this vehicle shares its underpinnings with the Tiago. It looks really modern and gets many Microsoft-enabled functionalities. It s not sure if this model will ever make it to the market, but in case it does, don t expect the launch to happen before 2020.

The unofficial reference to vintage Matchbox kits, matchbox cars.#Matchbox #cars

matchbox cars

Matchbox cars

Matchbox kits originated in 1972 when Jack Odell and Leslie Smith, the management of Lesney Products & Co ltd, decided they wanted a share of the plastic model kits market. This is where Maurice Landi, a keen aircraft person, came in. Lesney management hired him to design a range of Matchbox plastic modeling kits. It was his job as project engineer to come up with subjects which could be found, measured and photographed. In other words those aircraft which he had access to. When he had prototypes made up by their own staff, they would be presented to the owners Odell and Smith. Lesney management would decide under his advice and give him the budget to realize the kits. To provide attractive packaging Roy Huxley was hired as illustrator to draw the box-art for the kits. Matchbox cars Later other illustrators, Doug Post, Ross Wardle and Ken Rush, also worked on some of the Matchbox kit packaging. The majority of illustrations however remained to be drawn by Roy Huxley.

Scope of our attention

Matchbox as a brand name for plastic modeling kits has gone through a couple of curves. The classic British period practically ended with the receivership of Lesney. The Universal period still added kits that extended the ranges in the same Matchbox spirit.

We do focus on the kits that were released under the Matchbox label. For a couple of years Lesney owned AMT and both ranges were joined. AMT kits however are regarded out of scope for this reference. For a brief period original Matchbox kits have been sold in the US under the AMT brand. We show a just few examples of these and provide more detail in our catalogue area.

Pictures of all Matchbox kits throughout the years up to 1999:

  • The Aircraft kit ranges by year of issue
  • The Armour kit ranges
  • The 1-700 Ships ranges
  • Automotive kits
  • Motorcycle kits
  • Figures
  • Revell-Matchbox 40000 ranges
  • Matchbox and AMT/Matchbox catalogues
  • a classification guide with examples of box layouts and variations

Thanks to a few scrapyard panels and a few old but sturdy switches we were able to tinker a control panel that will allow you to select sections from our database to include or exclude. And the viewer can be switched to boxart as well. You can also control the pace, jump randomly or pause for a break. Switch it any way you like!

Robert Kaps shared more of his unpainted builds. Featuring:

  • PK-004 – Mitsubishi Zero A6M2 Zero-sen
  • PK-011 – Hawker Hurricane Mk IIC
  • PK-026 – Henschel Hs 126
  • PK-036 – Fairey Seafox
  • PK-047 – Dassault Mystere IV
  • PK-048 – Messerschmidt Boelkow-Blohm BK-117
  • PK-050 – Supermarine Spitfire Mk.XVI
  • PK-124 – Grumman F9F-5 Panther Blue Angels
  • PK-062 – Narvik class German destroyer
  • PK-351 – The Bismarck

We have added some additional shots of the instruction sheets for:

  • PK-507 – Aerospatiale Westland SA 330 PUMA Helicopter
  • PK-047 – Dassault Mystere IV
  • PK-062 – Narvik class German destroyer
  • PK-351 – The Bismarck

We added a picture to PK-27, The Hawker Siddeley Hawk, regarding the variations with and without window at the back. Courtesy of Asoka Indrasoma.

For PK-130, the Tornado F3, and PK-412, the Phantom FG1/FGR2, instruction sheets have been added in PDF format, courtesy of Richard Mills.

For PK-121, The Fairchild A-10A Thunderbolt, several pictures of a nice build by Akira Shiomi have been added.

  • Orange range ships kits – PK-161 to PK-165. For the Admiral Graf Spee, USS San Diego, HMS Tiger and USS Indianapolis we have added box variations with smaller and larger windows at the back. These are shown at the end of the series of pictures for each kit. Courtesy of Dirk Ommert.
  • Figures (Yellow range) – Matchbox figure kits were identified by a P- number instead of PK-. We correct this slip of the keyboard in this update. So now you will see the correct identifications under the yellow ranges. Meanwhile Dirk Ommert provided boxart pictures for P-5001, P-5002, P-5003 and P-5005.
  • Catalogues – With the help of Miguel Duque we finally could add the English version of the 1977 Matchbox catalogue.

A couple of long wanted additions:

  • With the help of Roy Huxley we have been able to identify for many kits the artists who drew the boxart. In some cases the artist signature is a dead giveaway, but others are not so obvious. The vast majority of kits from the Lesney and Matchbox International era now contain unambiguous references.
  • Derek Stowe was so kind to contact us and clarify the origins of the “Impulse Puzzles”. Please visit guided tour number 8 to read the Impulse Puzzles story.

For some of the exotic kits added during the Revell-Matchbox period we have been able to trace the origins: see kits 40143, 40147, 40148, 40200 and 40201.

Thanks to Mike Dean for a fruitful collaboration!

Some categories have meanwhile been adjusted on the site, PK-20 does seem to have appeared only on the second batch!

We will extend the details per box type in the future, so this is just the beginning.

If you have new information on things we missed out on or mixed up please contact us.

This will take out the guesswork incase you lost the paperwork.

Added a guided tour on the whereabouts of the Matchbox brand name in the nineties when licenced to Revell. Here you find some fascinating details about this period. Based on first hand experiences, drawn up by Dirk Ommert.

English catalogues added for the years 1986 to 1989 that surprisingly show differences with catalogues issued in other languages. Courtesy of Tony Benstead.

    Kits added:

  • Aircraft – PK-20 reissue of 1977
  • Ships – PK-61 and PK 351
  • Automotive – Four AMT/Matchbox reissues

A whole collection of Matchbox catalogues has been added. These complement our range of catalogues well into the nineties. A number of gaps that we had in the eighties range have now been closed as well. Courtesy of Dirk Ommert.

Several pictures added in the ranges Automotive, Ships, Aircraft and Armour:

  • PK-301, 302, 303, 304, 306, 307, 312, 451, 452
  • PK-62
  • PK-405, AMT 7117
  • PK-72, 76, 79, 82 and 172

Many thanks to the support by the Classic British Kits SIG, operating on the Unofficial Airfix Modellers Forum, and their fabulous PK-2008 project. Besides the many pictures that have been offered generously by the builders we have many pictures taken at Telford by Oliver Holmes. Our aim to collect pictures of built kits has therefore been coming along nicely. We are now able to show a variety of painted and unpainted models with the listed boxart. In our guided tours section a topic has been added to show an overview of the PK-2008 display as it was seen at Scale Model World, November 15 and 16 2008 at Telford UK.

Our virtual shelfspace has been significantly expanded. And our traffic limit has expanded likewise. That means we are adding more pictures to the site. We have included pictures of sprues, instruction sheets and decals for many kits. The catalogue range has been expanded extensively, ranging to the AMT/Matchbox merger up to the last catalogue produced under licence by Revell in 1998.

During the summer of 2008 quite a few AMT-Matchbox kits arrived from the USA. Which allows us to show some more of these package variations that originated around 1979. Check out the category Aircraft/AMT-Matchbox! For a complete overview the 1979 and 1981 AMT Hobby Kits Catalogues have been included in the catalogues area.

The range of Armour kits has been added. Also some pictures of built aircraft.

The launch of the site after three years of ideas and preparation! The first content contained a range of catalogues and almost all Matchbox aircraft kits.

Let us know what you think. Do you like the site? Use the Contact Us form to send us your input. Much appreciated!

Watch a huge remote-control plane meet a crashing end

Commentary: The Junker JU-52 has an 20-feet wingspan. But just before it lands, its engine appears to stall. And then, calamity.

Technically Incorrect offers a slightly twisted take on the tech that’s taken over our lives.

    Remote control cars

    Seconds before disaster.

    RCHeliJet/YouTube screenshot by Chris Matyszczyk/CNET

It takes time to put them together.

    Not a little love, too.

When you’re done, you watch your creation fly like a big bird. Well, a big bird that hums a lot.

In this case, the big bird is the one of the biggest remote-control model planes around — the Junker JU-52. Its wingspan is 6.09 meters (almost 20 feet). From nose to tail, it’s 4.07 meters (13.4 feet).

And as a YouTube video that’s been pulsing around the web this week shows, it’s fun to fly. The JU-52 soars over green fields under a blue sky, apparently at a meetup of model airplane fans in Germany.

At takeoff, it looks just like so many private planes you’ll see rising from your local airport.

It seems to maneuver successfully at some height. You’d think you were at an air show.

Toward the end of the 8-minute video, the Junker comes in to land. All seems serene. The wings level out.

Then, within inches of the ground, the plane lifts a little and yaws to its right. The propellers cease spinning.

    More Technically Incorrect

Lurching further, it crashes in a heap, its tailpiece shearing off and striking a parked car.

On YouTube, commenters — some who might even know what they’re talking about — weighed in to offer their judgments. Some immediately lurched to the right and blamed the pilot. Others insisted that bad things can happen to good pilots and that it’s impossible from the video to tell what happened.

For me, the Junker’s demise is all too redolent of people who spend weeks, months and even years building things, only to see them destroyed in seconds.

It’s the same principle for an Elon Musk rocket as it is for a meticulously built old German model plane.

All you can do is learn from what happened and then rebuild the thing and try again.
