Credit Card CVV – How to Find Credit Card CVV Number, credit card security codes.#Credit #card #security #codes

#

Credit Card CVV

Credit Card CVV Number

Visa Credit Card CVV code, MasterCard Credit Card CVV code, Amex Credit Card CVV number

Credit Card CVV is yet another technique by credit card industry players to minimize the misuse of credit cards against fraud/unauthorized transactions. CVV is an acronym for Card Verification Value. Have poor credit score? Don t have a credit history? Check out these credit cards for beginners for more details.

There are several different types of credit card security codes like CVV1, CVV2 or CVC2. The difference in these two is that CVV1 is present on the magnetic strip of the card, however the CVV2 is not present on the magnetic strip and this is required when “card is not present” means that the transaction is carried out through internet.

When we use the credit cards while making an online transaction, we need to enter the Credit Card CVV number before submitting the order via internet. The Credit Card security code is present on the credit card itself depending on which interchange’s card you are using.

For example: For Visa, MasterCard, and Discover the CVV number is a 3 digit number printed on the signature strip present on the back of the card.

And for Credit Cards by American Express, the 4-digit CVV number is right above the card account number on the front of the card.

There is one similarity between the CVV number of AMEX, VISA and MasterCard that is the CVV code is not embossed on any of these cards unlike the card account number. Many a times people confuse the PIN number associated with the MasterCard Secure Code or Visa’s verified by VISA, however both are different as this number is printed on the card itself. There are various algorithms designed to calculate the Credit Card CVV number of the credit card and those encrypted algorithms are confidential for the specific banks.

It is also advisable that when you receive your credit card , just go an remember your Credit Card CVV number by heart or write it somewhere which is beyond anyone’s else reach and then hide the CVV number on the card either with a pen or a pencil. This is because of the reason that your card number is visible to all, if you leave your card unattended, so if the malicious person notes down your Credit Card CVV number along with the card number then he can carry out lot many online transactions (depending on the limit assigned to your card) and sometimes you have to pay for those transactions when you will not be able to prove that these transactions are not made by you.

So if your Credit Card security code is safe then your card is safe, nobody will be able to make unauthorized/fraud transactions (online transactions) from your card. That’s the beauty of Credit Card CVV code.

So it is our duty to protect our credit card and cvv number. If you think that your card details have been compromised, you must call your bank to close your card and reissue a new cars as soon as possible.

On-line Credit Card Processing – A Guide to How It Works #on-line #credit #card #processing, #on-line #credit #card #processing

On-line Credit Card Processing

There is, some people might argue, no real reason why either a person who enjoys shopping on-line or merchant who accepts credit cards on-line should really have to care about the details of just how on-line credit card processing actually works. As long as the transaction is secure, the merchant gets their money and the customer gets their goods then what else is there to care about?

Actually it is a good idea that both customer and merchant do understand what goes on in the few seconds between a customer hitting buy and a merchant accepting their credit card as payment and confirming the order. A buyer can gain insight into just how their transaction is processed and can see just how fraud is (hopefully) prevented while a merchant can finally understand just why he or she is paying those credit card processing fees every month. Here then is a brief guide to just how the virtual cash makes its way from the customer’s credit card to the merchant s bank account in what sometimes only takes a matter of a minute or so:

Starting at the Beginning – Making the Purchase

A customer browses through an e-commerce website and if at some point they do decide they want to make a purchase they will “place” it in their electronic shopping cart. There are a number of different shopping cart software programs available for merchants to choose from but most of them operate in the same way.

From a customer s point of view the most important considerations here are that the transaction will be secure and that they enter their information correctly. One way to determine that a site is secure is to look for a lock icon, either in the lower left or the lower right corner depending on your browser.

This is not just a picture though. If you click on the lock it will actually display the security settings of the website you are on. In addition when you have navigated to a secure payment page on any website the url should change, from “http” to “https”, with s standing for secure. Some sites will also display a sign that announces their secure status but that alone should not necessarily be trusted.

As a customer inputs their information it is important that it is all correct as even the tiniest mistake can result in the credit card being declined. The billing address must match the one on file with the credit card issuer exactly, because this is one of the things that will be used to determine whether or not a transaction can be approved.

Once the credit card and shipping information has been entered and the customer hits “enter”, from their point of view all there is to do now is sit and wait. The “money itself is very busy though and in most cases as it makes its way towards the merchant s bank account it shrinks as well.

The Journey Continues

After the customer has entered their information it is encrypted and then sent on to a payment gateway. From the payment gateway the information is sent to the institution that issued the credit card, where the details are checked and verified, including whether or not a person has sufficient funds available to them to make the purchase.

If the transaction is declined for any reason that information is relayed back to the payment gateway and the customer in front of the computer is asked to enter another form of payment (most businesses are not tactless enough to simply display “your card has been declined”!) If the transaction is approved though the customer is informed that their transaction is complete.

The money s journey is not complete though. Now that the transaction has been approved the money is sent to the website owner s merchant account. Once there it does get to rest for a day or so until it is withdrawn by the merchant and deposited in their traditional bank account.

There are fees involved at every stop of a credit card payment s journey. For example, if a customer pays $100 for their purchase only about 97 of those dollars will actually end up in the merchant s bank account after the payment gateway and assorted processors have taken their fees. It is for this reason that many smaller merchants, both on and off line still have minimum purchase amounts, to help cover those fees.

Recurring On Line Credit Card Purchases

For a great many people the days of writing checks to cover their bills and popping them in the mail are long gone. More and more companies are offering on-line bill pay and more and more customers are signing up. Many also offer a recurring authorization option, basically meaning that provided you have the funds on your credit or debit card to cover the charges you should never be late with a bill payment again.

Recurring on-line credit card payments are processed in the same way as one time payments and the same fees are charged to the merchant as although the credit card s validity has already been established that the funds are available has to be verified with the issuing bank every time the card is charged.

Your Liability for Unauthorized Credit and Debit Card Charges #debit #card #definition

#

Your Liability for Unauthorized Credit and Debit Card Charges

If you lose your ATM, debit, or credit card, don’t panic. Federal laws and bank policies limit your liability for unauthorized charges. However, it’s important to notify the bank or card issuer of the loss or theft as soon as you discover it. Read below to learn about your notification duties and maximum liability for each type of card.

Credit Cards

Your liability for unauthorized charges depends on whether the thief personally presented your card to make the purchase, or made the purchase over the Internet or by phone.

  • If the thief personally presents your card to make the purchase, the card issuer cannot hold you liable for more than $50 in fraudulent charges. Many card issuers waive this $50.
  • If the thief uses your card by phone or the Internet, you have no liability.

In either of the above situations, however, it’s important to notify the card issuer as soon as you know of the theft. If you wait, the creditor may not believe that the card was really lost or stolen.

ATM and Debit Cards

With ATM or debit cards, you must act quickly in order to avoid full liability for unauthorized charges when your card is lost or stolen. Under the federal Electronic Fund Transfer Act, your liability is:

  • $0 if you report the loss or theft of the card immediately and the card has not been used
  • up to $50 if you notify the bank within two business days after you realize the card is missing
  • up to $500 if you fail to notify the bank within two business days after you realize the card is missing, but do notify the bank within 60 days after your bank statement is mailed to you listing the unauthorized withdrawals, or
  • unlimited if you fail to notify the bank within 60 days after your bank statement is mailed to you listing the unauthorized withdrawals.

If you can convince the bank that your notification failure was due to extentuating circumstances, it must extend the notification timeline for a “reasonable period.”

How to provide notice. Provide the notice in writing. For purposes of meeting the time requirements, the law considers written notice to have been given when you deposit it in the mail or deliver it personally to the bank. The timelines for giving notice are generally extended if your delay in giving notice was caused by extenuating circumstances such as extended travel or hospitalization.

The bank’s duty. If the bank claims that you are liable for amounts over $50, it must show that the additional loss would not have occurred if you had given timely notice of the card’s loss or theft.

Voluntary Caps on Liability for Debit Card Charges

In response to consumer complaints about the possibility of unlimited liability, some card issuers cap the liability on debit cards at $50. And some banks don’t charge anything if unauthorized withdrawals appear on your statement. Also, some states have capped the liability for unauthorized withdrawals on an ATM or debit card at $50.
