5 Best Used Cars Under $8,000

NEW YORK (TheStreet ) — Do you need a car that’s more reliable than your cash flow? Then check out Kelley Blue Book ‘s top picks for best used automobiles under $8,000.

These are all reliable, safe means of transportation that people can buy at affordable prices, says Jack Nerad, executive editorial director at KBB. There are lots of used cars out there for under $8,000, but there aren’t nearly as many that we’d be comfortable putting our children in or recommending to a friend.

Nerad says the best sub-$8,000 used cars are typically late-model versions of top-selling vehicles, which are generally plentiful in the resale market. There are definitely good cars on our list, he says. It’s just that they’re frankly older and very likely to have more miles on them.

Read on to check out KBB editors’ top choices for used cars under $8,000, listed in order of how highly staffers ranked each model.

All prices reflect estimates of what you’ll pay at a dealership for a given car that’s in at least good condition, which KBB defines as having a clean title, no major mechanical problems and only normal wear and tear.

Fifth-best used car under $8,000: 2007 Mazda3

Estimated price: $7,650 (for an iSport sedan with automatic transmission and a 148-horsepower engine)

The Mazda3 has long offered a far zippier ride than you’d expect given the compact vehicle’s modest sticker price.

The Mazda3 has been on our ‘Coolest New Cars Under $18,000’ list forever and ever, Nerad says. We really like every iteration of the model, both for its value and for the fact that it’s fun to drive.

The 2007 version is part of the Mazda3’s first generation, which is two versions removed from a third iteration that came out this year. (The Mazda3 pictured is a more recent model.)

Base 2007s are available as sedans or hatchbacks and come standard with a 148-horsepower four-cylinder engine and manual transmission. Automatic transmission and a peppier 156-horsepower four-cylinder engine are also available.

Fourth-best used car under $8,000: 2005 Toyota Camry

Estimated price: $7,925 (for models with automatic transmission and a 160-horsepower engine)

The well-regarded Camry has long been the U.S. new-car market’s top-selling model, which means there are plenty of good used versions of this midsized sedan available as well.

The Camry is kind of the poster child for dependably and reliability — and because Camrys are essentially overbuilt, you’ll find good value in a 2005 model even if it has a lot of miles on it, Nerad says.

The 2005 Camry is also just two iterations removed from the vehicle’s current seventh edition, which came out in 2012.

Base 2005s come standard with manual transmission and a 160-horsepower four-cylinder engine, with automatic transmission and 210-horsepower V-6 engines available as well.

I have 3, possibly 5, cars for sale. They were work cars, one is my dad’s that he doesn’t drive, one was bought for the step kid, but he moved and left it. And a monte carlo. All these cars have defiently seen better days, and would like to someone use them as a work car instead of scrap.

98 malibu. rough, has dents and dings, and needs headlight rewired and mounted, deer ran into me last winter. 200xxx miles. has always started and gotten me to work. Loud exhaust, gas gauge doesn’t work. asking 500.

99 malibu. bought it as its in better shape than the 98. Drove it for about a week, and the brake booster went out I believe. Leather, sunroof, paint messed up on driver door. Needs a good cleaning. again, believe brake booster went out, no brakes, well, very very weak. when braking, loud vacuum noise. Will need new speakers, and a pass windows motor. 160xxx miles, roughly. Will need a battery as well, I have one to start it with, also, noticed that the dash light stays on with key off. key cylinder is known to be bad on these cars. believe they are 60 at auto zone. 98 malibu has a recall to replace it, this one may as well. Asking 500 as well. Again, I just don’t have time or ambition to mess with any of these cars. Have a minivan to haul the kids around now.

Also. dads 93 lumina has been at my house, he says he needs to drive it and save on gas. but he likes his truck to much. He’d Probally let it go for 600.

Also have a 2000 monte carlo ss. deer kissed the front fender as well. 160xxx miles. exhaust leak, electric fan bearings went out, so I unplugged it. fine for driving down the highway, stats to get warm when city driving. bank has title to it. but if bought for parts or for the metal for a racecar. can do a bill of sale. Asking 750.

Last car. 96 cavalier. forget the milage. has a ground kit, black, has a good sub box in trunk. body is good shape. cousin was buying it from me, making payments, he stopped paying after 2 weeks, and was told the motor is now knocking. I do not know how bad it really is, so am selling it for the body only, and if motor is good, then it’s your luck day.has the 2.2 I’m sure. Asking 400. Would be with dropping g a used motor in. again, I have no time to mess with any of it. Please feel free to call or text. and I can answer any questions and send more pics. show contact info

3 Tips for Safely Buying a Car Online

By Cameron Huddleston | August 6, 2009

Yesterday, we gave you three tips to safely sell a car online. Today, we have three tips to help you avoid fraud when buying a car online.

Be suspicious of ridiculously low offers. particularly those connected to sob stories. Before buying a car, check KBB.com to find out what it’s market value is. If someone claims he’s selling a vehicle at a low price because he needs the money fast (he lost a job or is a soldier going overseas, for example), it’s probably a scam, says Sid Kirchheimer, author of Scam-Proof Your Life: 377 Smart Ways to Protect You & Your Family from Ripoffs, Bogus Deals & Other Consumer Headaches .

Mind your money and personal information. Do not give out your Social Security or credit-card number. When paying, don’t send a personal check or wire money (a request to do so can be a scam). Funkhouser recommends paying by cash or making an arrangment with the seller to meet at a bank. If the seller is pushing you to use a particular escrow company to handle the transaction, be suspicious because it might be part of a scam. You can verify a company’s legitimacy by checking with state regulators, Funkhouser says, or ask to use an escrow company or your choosing, such as Escrow.com. Most importantly, make sure the seller hands over the vehicle’s title when you pay.

Close But No Cigar: Mazda 3,

With production of the Civic starting in 1972 this model has a long history of reliability with customers. This pick comes with great fuel economy, an environmentally friendly engine and extremely roomy interior perfect for transporting passengers and cargo. With very reasonably base prices you can’t go wrong with the reliable Honda Civic.

After an unveiling in 2004 its popularity grew. This wagon was engineered to catch the eye of younger buyers. It went nationwide in 2005 and has proven to provide good reliability among consumers. It can be easy customized which makes this ride a fun and affordably choice.

The compact Toyota Corolla has continually been one of the world’s best-selling cars. This Asian compact sedan hit the American market in 1969, and 2007 models are still being produced. Reliability, fuel economy, as well as its low purchase price give this compact the edge over the competition.

This compact hatchback was first produced in 2002 and since then has amassed a loyal following. After a small facelift in 2005 The Matrix has proven that it is reliable with a strong and attractive comfortable interior. With great safety ratings and low purchase price this model is a must have.

5 of the best Black Friday car deals #car #trader

#best used car deals

News editor

In the auto industry, the big deals usually start in December. But just like department stores and big box retailers, more car dealers and manufacturers are rolling out Black Friday deals even earlier.

November and December are huge selling months for the industry, but auto makers are using Black Friday as a way to get some early momentum, says Jeremy Acevedo, an analyst with car-shopping website Edmunds.com. Hyundai, for instance, launched a “Black Friday Every Day” sales event from now until Dec. 2. “The deals really run the gamut,” Acevedo says. “They’re happening earlier and earlier.” Many auto makers have finance and lease deals that are running from November to the end of the year, he says; some have started their winter sales, while others are focusing on Black Friday.

“Specials like this get consumers into the dealership and increase sales,” says Joe Wiesenfelder, executive editor of auto news site Cars.com, “especially on a date when rabid shoppers used to spend their time anywhere but at a car store.” For example, General Motors GM, -1.46%   began offering supplier or employee pricing at participating dealerships on some Chevy, Buick and GMC models from Nov. 20, but they, will continue through Dec. 2 while stocks last. (The GM deal excludes Cadillac and the promotion is voluntary for dealerships, but those that sign up must include all the eligible cars.)

Jaguars to Subarus: The top 5 of the L.A. Auto Show

The new mini isn t so mini anymore, while the Colorado is a bit slimmed down. WSJ s Joe White calls out his top five picks from the 2013 Los Angeles Auto Show, where he says the Jaguar F-type is the best looking new car on display.

Auto makers want to lure a different kind of shopper this month. A lot of Black Friday consumers are more easily swayed from their brand of choice, Acevedo says, just like they might switch from a Panasonic to a Samsung television. “Deal-oriented shoppers can jump ship for that exceptional deal,” he says. Car dealers dread being saddled with last year’s models and the earlier they can clear out the 2013 inventory — the better, says Alec Gutierrez, senior market analyst of automotive insights at auto-pricing publisher Kelley Blue Book. “Black Friday falls at a good time for car dealers,” he says.

But Black Friday sales are like tent sales, experts say. “Not every shopper will find what they want, either in the form of the right car, the right price or the best interest rate,” Wiesenfelder says. Even though sales continue next month, he says it may still be better to start shopping earlier, as customers can expect to save $500 to $1,000 on similar deals in November versus December. And many of the Black Friday sales that don’t make headlines or create a buzz online come at the dealer level, Acevedo says, “as some car lots are offering shockingly low prices on just one or two cars for Black Friday.”

Here are five of the biggest deals this Black Friday:

Many dealers are offering $1,000 cash rebate on all new Toyota Camry models (and $500 bonus cash on new Toyota RAV4 models). Models include the four door sedan VS Auto SE, which has an MSRP of $30,223, and the four-door sedan 14 Auto SE ($24,924). The Black Friday specials continue until Dec. 2. In its review of the 2014 Camry, trade publication Autotrader.com said the Camry “rides smoothly and quietly, and fuel economy is better than ever.” The latest Camry handles pretty well, the review added, especially with the SE model’s sport-tuned suspension.

  • Durham’s premier used car dealership

Selling your vehicle can take time and can be more of a hassle than simply trading it in or selling it outright to A Lot of Cars. We pay you cash, immediately, for your car.

For many people who are considering the purchase of a new car or truck, the universe of trade-ins can be confusing. Trading in your old car can be a great way to knock off a significant amount from the total down payment on a new car.

A Lot of Cars takes trade-ins and in some cases, we outright purchase your car. If the car you are considering selling runs well and is paid off, we can make you an offer once we have seen the vehicle.

If you are still unclear about whether or not you want to trade-in your vehicle, you might want to speak with one of our representatives. Tell them your concerns, and ask for an honest opinion. At A Lot of Cars, we can help you find the car of your choice, and we can, more often than not, accept your trade-in.

AA Car Book Value #hybrid #car

#book value of a car

AA Car Book Value

With the AA car book value you will be able to determine what your car is worth if you wish to sell it or you can see how much a car is worth that you would like to own. By making use of the AA calculator you will be able to get accurate vehicle prices, but you could also ask one of the assistants to help you if you are unsure of how this is done. You wouldn’t have to use a guide like this if you are purchasing a new vehicle, but if it is used automobiles that you are interested in, then a guide like this can definitely come in handy.

This is especially true if you are buying from bank auctions; by making use of an AA car book value calculator on the web you can see if the used automobiles are worth it. As there are so many bank auctions taking place in South Africa, you have to have some kind of idea as to what vehicle prices are reasonable and which ones are just plain ridiculous. By making use of the book value services on the Internet, you can use it any time of any day, as long as you have an Internet connection. If you don’t use a service like this, you won’t know if the price you are willing to pay for a vehicle is actually worth it.

AA is definitely a company you can trust, so you know that by making use of the calculator they provide you will be getting decent and accurate information back. Buying brand new vehicles in South Africa isn’t easy these days and this is why so many people are purchasing used vehicles, but after many of them have been ripped off with the prices they paid for used cars, people prefer to use the AA car book value program.
